Basic123: It may interest you to know that during the war British people did not get any deal from Odumegwu Ojukwu when he went to Russia to buy weapons and assistance, the condition he was given was to nationalise the oil companies and hand over to them, Ojukwu turned it down and maintained his stubbornness. I am sure that is what some minorities shouting our oil mistook for Igbo interest in the oil. The oligarchs on the other hand knew they wouldn't have east access to the oil fields with Igbos in view. Earlier, the British launched minorities commission in 1957 popularly known as Willink commission, the idea was to prop up unwilling tools (minorities) who were mainly farmers and fishermen to scuttle igbo influence and ignoring the fact that political arrangements were heavily weighted in favour of oligarchs who have persecuted Tivs and other minorities and in the west, yorubas showed great hostilities towards the Urhbo and Benin etc. Saro wiwa an opportunist and a poor historian who should have learnt from Afonja in illorin and his close brother Adaka Boro who paid the ultimate price for sabotage, becomes overnight friend to uncle Sanni Abacha and Saro wiwa and family lived in gigantic mansion of Odumegwu Ojukwus father in port-harcourt. Saro wiwa kids called captain Abacha, uncle Sanni " this was in the early 70s. Saro wiwa at some point boasted of crossing over to join the Nigerian army and helped them take (Igweocha) now Port-harcourt , because he believed that Igbos had disrespected him. Fast forward to early 90s and "uncle Sanni" hangs daddy saro. The idea to seize igbo properties only in port harcourt was to ensure that the bitterness, hate and distrust between the two brother regions never healed. OC nwali and okogbule nwonodi warned Niger deltans against this, but the glee and rejoicing by the EK Clarks camp was too raucous. The trouble for saro wiwa, elechi amadi and EK Clark started when immediately after the war, captain David mark was drafted in to share the abandoned properties in port harcourt. This was despite the agreement that indigenes would share them. The niger delta servants of the Fulanis started feeling the tinubu treatment immediately after the war. E K Clark who was given information minister during the war was dropped and have struggled for the rest of his life to touch a government post. Elechi amadi was found as a ready tool by the British and the Nigerian government to spew all forms of misinformation, One of his book titled Sunset in Biafra alleged that..... "Some thirty years ago the Ibos began to move in .......Eventually, many settled and Igbo came to be so widely used that certain tribes practically lost their mother tongue. " Fabricated lies and deception !!! Elechi amadi was abandoned and he remained brutally and abjectly poor until Amaechi tried to rehabilitate him at dying age. Saro wiwa was serially humiliated from immediately after the war and never got that illusive happiness from Fulanis. Before he was wasted like a common criminal In 1994, a year before his death, he showed up un-invited to an Ohaneze meeting in Enugu and asked Ndi Igbo to forgive him and aid in his fight for self actualization. With the Fulanis and British eye on oil, and with documented fears of Britain to negotiate with Igbo's, who they hated for knowing even more than they the white man knew, (for every British professional expatriate in the 50s, there were 3-8 superiorly educated and exposed Igbo's. So, Britain wanted Igbo's away from oil negotiations. This led to the advice to Gowon to cut Elele, Etche, Opobo, Oyigbo, Asa, ndoki, ndoni and some other Igbo communities into the new rivers state they created for stark illiterate 23 year old korofo naval boy, diette spiff to run. Then they feared that ikwerre blood tie & proximity to Igbo's will return them to their Igbo identity, so, they asked Gowon to pay and commission captain elechi amadi who was a literary practitioner and author, but who felt overshadowed by achebe, and thus, hated Igbo's like hell, to rewrite the ikwerre language and create a new ikwerre language. So, okuko becomes ochucho, onyeisi = nyerisi, nw =w, as in wike, nwobo=Wobo. Elelenwa becomes Elelenwo, Umuola becomes rumola, umuokorushi becomes rumuokorishi, obigbo becomes oyibo, umuokuta becomes rumokuta , obi =ovu , umuaka= rumutakiri , etc etc etc The British clandestinely funded to language alteration project to reduce the Igbo's to minority, so as to face less hectic trade negotiations in future. They also feared that Igbo's might start spreading to run other African states due to their expansive westernisation and individual wealth. All these hatred were justified as result of Igbo's running port harcourt through enugu the capital. The British who are detailed historians, found every bit of fear mongering and annoying story of domination to whip up hysteria amongst the niger deltans. Where there were facts, they greatly exaggerated them. Lazy men who couldn't compete in life started blaming igbo domination for their failures. The war was a connivance of convenience as the British bombed the Igbo's, while nigeria blockaded them for starvation purposes. This occurrences are in the past. They shouldn't raise emotions amongst Niger deltans or Igbo's. They're just history. We shouldn't let them repeat. 2 Likes 1 Share |

belzabull:Nne ọma mara nma, I would have naturally avoided replying you, but knowledge is dynamic and nobody has monopoly to it. Please Google the history of Swiss banks and that of the world bank. Swiss banks where established with blood money gotten from Swiss mercenaries and this was in the 1700s. And Switzerland has played neutrality in European politics and it has favoured them. We are not Europeans and we are not neutral( a classic example is what is currently happening in Mbaise Catholic archdiocese). And you avoided my question where I asked you to mention atleast 10 landlocked countries in the world with good(I didn't say great) economic indices. My simple take is this, if this agitation continues and we get biafra without a change in mind set what we suffered in Nigeria will continue and if shi*t gets real and war is inevitable my families passports are ready for any eventuality. We talk about marginalisation, go to the creeks of the niger delta and you will understand the meaning of marginalisation, go to the middle belt, even in the said North, the poverty level there is outstanding. What are we even saying? We should be clamouring for true federalism not division and find ways to hold our leaders accountable for their actions. Because from my own observations, it is this same moneybags that destroyed Nigeria are the ones sponsoring this outrage, have our collective sense gone on leave? We are just pawns on the massive chessboard of a few power brokers. Even the said Nnamdi Kanu is like a guard dog, who has gone out of control and would soon be put down by his masters. My people use your brains for Christ sake. 1 Like |

bigfish3k: A confederation is a union of sovereign states, united for purposes of common action often in relation to other states. Since the member states of a confederation retain their sovereignty, they have an implicit right of secession. As opposed to a federation which the component states usually possess no powers in relation to foreign policy and so enjoy no independent status underinternational law and therefore the central power must ensure the unity of the country isn't compromised. ...wikipedia 1 Like |

i have said it b4, and will say it again... there is no where on a map called south-south, there is no such geographical location, no compass shows it. and secondly . the term Niger delta is not a tribe, ethnic group or a language. infact Niger delta includes, ondo, imo, abia and excludes cross rivers , Edo . i have said my piece. interpret it the way u want peace 1 Like |

DickDastardly2: For the 18yrs of democracy we've had in Nigeria, the south did 14yrs and the north only doing its 4th year, yet we are still complaining of northern dominance. During GEJ's time, the south had powerful appointments but you never heard the north complain the way we do. Jonathan removed Sanusi and replaced him with Emefiele but the north never said it was southernization, but if PMB should do same, we complain of northernization and Islamization to the high heavens. I really don't understand how the south who have ruled for 14 of the 18 years of Nigeria's democratic existence, would still be the once talking about dominance of the north. It's beginning to sound like a broken record to me |

AntiNigerian: Bro, I am Yoruba, although I'm not a direct decendant of the ancient Yoruba WarLord Afonja. The name Afonja is a complement nonetheless. My question to you is why would you want every Yoruba person out of a state. I'm not sure how old you are but please, we have a very short time to spend on this earth to focus on what divides us. We would always find something. There is Racism, Sexism, tribalism...for some its street rivalry, while others its family tussle. Learn to be at peace with all men. This goes also to other Ethnicities in the country; Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Benin, Efik, etc. |
