Thank you so much!
I just read your post on page 206 smiley
I've gathered that there are two AWAs. Is this true, did you have two AWAs in your time?
Also, how did section-level adaptiveness play out?
I'm a Fall 2018 aspirant, and my thinking is that the 6weeks score reporting period wouldn't matter. Am I thinking ok? Would you advise the paper-based?

Yeah, that's standard. Whichever you take, you'll write two essays. One "Issue", the other "Argument." Practice writing those essays, if only to know how real testing conditions would look like. The PBT can't afford to be adaptive based on sections, obviously. Which means, you get the exact same set of questions irrespective of how well you did in a prior section. And yes, prepare for 6 weeks to get your scores. You know when your apps are due, so you're in the best position to see if it's worth the wait. It's totally up to you, which you take.

Both are comparable in terms of difficulty. Like I said, I took pbt cos it was the only one around me at the time. If I had to choose either, I imagine I'd have taken the computer-based.

Thanks I'll do just that.

Thanks. I understand my research experience is very limited although could it help that I have a published paper presented at an international paper contest?. And the research group I was under was quite rigorous under the supervision of multiple profs with funding from a major IOC.
Please what European Universities would you suggest especially outside the UK with good funding options. Not too familiar with their processes, maybe iFP?
Thanks and sorry for the bother.
Try Germany, with grades like yours you should target only the top engineering universities like TU munich or RWTH achen. Also you can try royal institute of technology in Sweden and ETH Zurich in Switzerland. Ps do not apply to any rubbish university. Then you can also try delft insitute of technology in Netherlands. They have this sub saharan African scholarship program, with a grade like yours and a powerful essay, getting it will be a walk in the park.

Yes o. Instead of me going to a nonsense university, I rather take that money to ladipo and go and start selling spare parts. It's forgivable going to a rubbish university for undergraduate but for post graduate. Odikwa very risky.

Hi, with the aforementioned profile. I won't advise you to apply to LSU or Tulsa, they are a bit competitive for oily courses. Especially, ur GPA it doesn't cut it.

You can look at moderate schools in Oily states. With this strategy you can get internship faster and from there possibly secure job.

I really appreciate your advice. However, I'm now interested in MSc in Industrial Engineering (operations research). What do you say about an MSc in a different field? Thanks!

Guys am new here but I took my time to go thru most of the pages on this you thread. i contacted a prof in a Canadian university who asked me to send my CV and transcript to him, I need guidance on presenting a good CV. Secondly I checked the schls grad admis only to find it has a stringent procedure, admission score of 76% into graduate level(Msc) of which I am short of. What your take on this?. Thanks in anticipation

Right now, you've got a leverage, in that a faculty member is really interested in your story. Think less of the 76% for now, and focus on how to impress him. Send me a PM for a sample CV you could use.

Yes, papers presented and published will help. But most of the professors prefer to see how the student is before offering funding to him for the PhD. Masters would be easier to get in. But again depends on what you field is.

SenseiVoyles:

Thanks I'll do just that.

Fully funded masters is difficult. Let me be honest, the universities are flooded with so many applications and everyone wants funds. Unless you have an exceptional profile, it is extremely difficult. And with university like USC, fully funded is next to impossible.
Most of the universities give out scholarships after the first semester. They can provide you in the second sem after seeing your performance in the first semester.

SenseiVoyles:
This thread has been so enlightening and insightful.
Graduated earlier this year, Petroleum Engineering (4.56/5 and top of my graduating class).Scheduled to take GRE in late August. Looking at USC, UT Austin, Penn State, LSU and my dream but probably unlikely choice Stanford(Energy Resources Engineering).
How realistic are my chances of getting a fully funded masters. Had a good undergraduate thesis and worked under a Prof' s research group. Is applying to USC's Petroleum Engineering PhD program realistic without an Msc? Are there any other schools I should be looking at?

Yes. GRE is just one of the factor.
And for university like USC, it is very unlikely to get full funding. They get huge number of applications. Maybe for a less popular university it might be possible.
In such a case I would suggest that you dont rely on funding, at least prepare with mindset of paying for the first semester. Then you can get RA or TA or even full funding. Look at the research happening at the university. If that is aligned with your research experience it might help.
Maybe for the first year you can also try for a loan.

SenseiVoyles:

So hypothetically if I have a 320+ GRE score with my GPA and limited research experience, is it still unlikely to find Masters funding?
