You can also help us with the details of Seun and Seyi Abolaji. The twin brothers who own Wilson's Juice Company. They were featured in Forbes Magazine and CNN African Voices sometime ago

After schooling in the UK, they came to Nigeria and started selling home made lemonade to Covenant University students. Their small business would later expand to become a multi million Naira investment with a fruit juice production factory in Ogun State.

Oluyinka Kufile, Chairman and Managing Director of Qualitec Industries Limited, started business on a small-scale, in the eighties. From importing and marketing pots, pans and aluminium wares, he moved into large scale manufacturing, by setting up a private company focusing on production of aluminum materials and long-span sheets. His company is based in the Agege area of Lagos, but has a huge multi-million naira factory in Otta. wink

“We have made these investments, because we believe that what is worth doing at all, is worth doing well," says Oluyinka Kufile. "When we started, it got to a point that we had to approach American Nexim Bank. They obliged us and gave us the facility. Today, it is a different story.” And that story is a successful one. cheesy

Kufile, is also the vice-chairman of Basic Metal Group of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN). He is however sad that the Aluminium Smelter Company, located in Ikot Abasi in Akwa Ibom State, is still under lock and key. It used to produce ingots which are the raw materials used for fabrication of aluminium coils. Today, such ingots are imported from Cameroun at a huge cost. If Kufile had his way, he would urge the federal govt to reopen the smelter company, so that local production of ingots can resume. sad

His firm Qualitec is already well positioned to maintain its lead in the industrial sector. His factory already has a rolling mill that reduces aluminium into various thickness and gauges, along with a tension levelling line and other specialised equipment, for ensuring that products from their factory meet global standards. undecided

Qualitec Industries Limited is one of the three leading aluminium makers in Nigeria, whose basic business is to manufacture aluminium coils and roofing sheets.

It began in the early 1980s with the manufacture of pots, pans and other household utensils at Ojokoro area of Lagos State. Later on, the factory was sited in Lagos but was recently moved to Ota, Ogun State.

A fully incorporated company, Qualitec primarily manufactures aluminium coils for various industrial applications, while also supplying and installing stone chip roofing sheets and flashings of various sizes and designs.

Generally, the company’s product line comprises cast coils, mill finish aluminium coils, coloured coated coils, roofing sheets, step tiles and flashings.

While the company’s corporate office is located in Lagos, its factory is situated at Ota, Ogun State. At the Ota factory, about $100 million investments have so far been made in new plants, machinery, captive power plants and resuscitation of existing plants. There have also been investments in ingots, which are raw materials used in making aluminium.

A second production line is being installed, while machines that will be required, alongside technicians that will operate them, are expected to arrive in Nigeria soon from Turkey.

In Nigeria, players in aluminium and extrusion industry collect wastes and then package them for exports, while demanding bragging rights from the government in the form of export grants. “But we do not do this, because we believe in the industrialisation of the country,” said Qualitec’s managing director.

Qualitec Industries has 2,000KVA and many 500KVA generators that power the factory. There are also captive power plants as well as over four gas generators, which serve as alternatives during power failure or once generators disappoint them. The consequence of this is the high cost of energy for Qualitec and consequently production costs. “We spend N15 million monthly on diesel,” the managing director said.

Despite the fact that, these investments are made by one man, even without necessary assistance from the government, Qualitec’s products’ quality is not compromised. A lot of aluminium dealers in the country depend on Qualitec for raw materials.

Muktar Onifade, 26, Detroit

GM Engineer, Fashion Designer

Some might argue that engineers and artists exist on opposite sides of the creative spectrum. But that couldn’t be further from the truth, at least not when it comes to Muktar Onifade, who is both a calibrations engineer for General Motors and a fashion streetwear fashion designer.

He usually starts his days at 4 a.m., splitting time between testing car engines for various standards and requirements and his studio, where he designs his minimalist, high-end brand, VIZUVLGVDS. The fashion collection combines Onifade’s technical, engineering precision with his Nigerian heritage.

ON HIS FASHION BRAND'S NAME My tribe is Yoruba. We have tribal gods that we all identify by. For my brand, I wanted a name that instantly catches attention, but has depth to it. A Nigerian, Prof. Ilesanmi Adesida, has been appointed the Provost/Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, United States of America. But the story is that the Nigerian-born professor of Electronic Engineering with outstanding works in Nanotechnology is the first black man to be appointed in that position in the United States of America.
Born in 1949 at Ifon, a town in Ondo State, the United States of America-based Nigerian lecturer, was appointed by the search committee of the institution on merit.
Before his appointment, Adesida was the Dean, College of Engineering of the institution.
According to Dr. Phyllis Wise, the university’s Vice-President and Chancellor, Adesida succeeds Linda P.B. Katehi-Tseregounis, who last served the role on a permanent basis.

Adesida, a former Head of Department, Electrical Engineering, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Bauchi State, will oversee the institution’s academic programmes, policies and priorities, which have been designed to ensure the quality of the educational experience for students and to sustain an environment that encourages and supports academic excellence. He was at ABTU between 1985 and 1987.
But now as the chief academic officer of UI, Adesida will work closely with the Chancellor, other vice-chancellors, the deans of academic colleges and other units, academic staff, the Faculty Senate, and various committees in setting overall academic priorities for the university.
The university has a budget of $1.5 billion with more than $400 million in research expenditures. There are 42,000 students and 3,000 faculty members. The university is renowned for its interdisciplinary collaborations, advances in human understanding, community outreach, global partnerships, and life-changing scientific developments.
By his appointment, Adesida, who graduated with a Bachelors of Science, Master’s and PhD in electrical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 1974, 1975 and 1979 respectively, will become one of the highest paid academics in the US.
According to Dr. Phyllis Wise, UI’s Vice-President and the Chancellor, the cerebral don will earn $430,000 per annum, about N67.51 million. With this amount, Adesida’s annual salary is $30,000 higher than President Barrack Obama, who earns $400,000 per year.

Commenting on his appointment, Adesida, who is now a naturalised American, was quoted by a news agency as expressing happiness at the university’s gesture.
Adesida said, “I’m honoured and humbled to be selected as vice-chancellor/provost of this great campus (university). This is something I take very seriously. I know how to work very hard and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get the job done.”
According to the website of the university, Adesida is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Vacuum Society, and the Optical Society of America. He is also the past-president of IEEE Electron Devices Society.

His outstanding work in the field of Nanotechnology has received much acclaim in the scientific community. He has developed a body of work in the processing of semiconductors and other materials at the nanometer-scale level.
After his studies, he worked in various capacities at what is now known as the Cornell Nanofabrication Facility and the School of Electrical Engineering, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York.
In June 2005, Adesida became the 13th dean since the inception of the College of Engineering in 1870.
He joined UI as a faculty member in 1988 and he is currently the Donald Biggar Willett Professor of Engineering, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, and Director of the Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology.

Adeyemi Ajao, the Nigerian Born Mark Zuckerberg of Spain Sold His Social Networking StartUp, 'Tuenti', to Telefonica for $100million dollars

Nigerian born Adeyemi Ajao been described as the Mark Zuckerberg of Spain. He is regarded as the first African ever to sell his startup for $100 million on August 4, 2010, when Telefonica took controls of 85% of Ajao’s Tuenti, an invitation-only private social network site for students and young people in Spain. Tuenti popularly called “Spanish Facebook” was started by Adeyemi Ajao at 22 and four of his friends. Tuenti has over 14 million users and is the largest Invite-Only network in the world.

Tuenti, which in Spanish comes from "tu enti[dad]" meaning your identity, sounds like Twenty in English. It is rated as one of the fastest growing social network sites. Tuenti features many tools common to social-networking sites. It allows users to set up a profile, upload photos, link videos and connect with friends; recently a chat application has been added. Many other utilities, such as the ability to create events, are also offered. Unlike similar social network sites which feature banner advertisements, Tuenti has opted out of these traditional forms of "noisy" and obstructive advertising.

Zaryn Dentzel, one of its founders and current CEO, stated that they intend to focus on Spanish users more before possibly expanding to other countries.

Adeyemi Ajao was born in southern Spain to a Nigerian father and a Spanish mother.

Adeyemi earned a Masters in Finance from Emory, a J.D. from ICADE in Madrid, and an MBA from Stanford, and graduated at the top of his class at each university. He was elected one of the “Top 100 Spaniards of the Year” in 2009, and was invited by the U.S. Congress to the Presidential Inauguration of Barack Obama as a representative of the Spanish Commission for Accomplishments in Entrepreneurship.

Adeyemi’s father was one of the first mechanical engineers in Nigeria, who started a steel company in Nigeria. He saw his father fought hard to put his company together, but unfortunately didn’t make it in Nigeria, and left for Italy.

Ajao the Co-Founder/CEO of Identified has also launched other successful innovations such as Cabify, an application for hiring of vehicles with driver via mobile under the slogan "Move with style." Cabify requests high-end vehicles with professional drivers using technology, to bring consumers the luxury. You can ask about one of your cars from any device, be it a mobile phone, a computer or tablet. The user receives a notification with information about the designated driver, model and license plate number. On the screen of your device, you can see how the vehicle looks and can even contact the driver if needed.

Charles Dairo: CEO, CKDigital

As a part-time web developer, it is only to be expected that I know the big wigs in the game. Occasionally, my team and I visit other websites to draw inspiration. One name however that keeps jumping at us is CKDigital. For long we have admired and envied their craftsmanship.

So it was a thing of great joy to speak with the cerebral behind that powerful web designing company.

Your company is one of the best web development companies in the country, how did it all start? How did you get into web development; was it by chance or was it planned?

Getting into full-time business of web development was actually by chance. CKDigital started as a freelance ‘side’ business for me. I never really planned to go into business. My plan was to design websites on the side while still trying to get a ‘real job’.

Here’s what happened: During my final year at the University, I took a course on Web Design & Data Security. We were taught some basics but that’s when I realized Web Design was something I was passionate about. I could literally go a whole day without eating, as long as I was with my laptop, designing a website.

After NYSC, I enrolled in a 3-month internship program at a company and after that, worked part-time as a web designer at a church, while still designing websites part-time for friends and family.

After one year at the church, my side business had become quite profitable, as I was getting referred by satisfied clients to their own friends. I was also getting a reasonable number of leads and customers through Google. At this point, I quit my part-time job at the church to face my business full-time.

What was the source of your initial capital?

We started really small – basically from scratch. My laptop was the only equipment I needed to start. Our first office was a store at the back of my mom’s supermarket. Little by little, from the money we made from our clients, we continued to build the business.

You are a young man with an efficient company managing 18 employees, how do you do it? What is your secret managerial ingredient that helps you keep everything together?

That’s a pretty difficult question to answer. I can’t think of any secret managerial ingredient. I’m also not perfect yet; I just keep getting better and better. I have learned to generally treat people how I’d like to be treated, and also choose to believe the best in people. As a Christian, I depend on the Holy Spirit for guidance. This has helped tremendously.

I went through some of the websites that you build and manage, and there is always a uniqueness about each one. Where does the inspiration come from? How do you choose what design is best for what site?

Thanks for your comment concerning our work. Choosing the best design for a website is simple – we focus on the objectives of the client and the needs of the users. We are inspired by websites developed by other great web design agencies – some in Nigeria, many in other parts of the world.

We also strive to make sure we constantly outdo our past work by ensuring that members of the team make intentional efforts to improve themselves regularly.

What has been your single biggest challenge so far?

Challenges are part of business and life as a whole. We have had many challenges of different sizes and duration, but we are always determined to use them as stepping-stones, rise above them, and get better.

What drives you as an entrepreneur?

That would be the satisfaction that comes from helping businesses succeed through our work.

How has your business managed in recent times with regards to Nigeria’s recession? Have you had to lay off some of your employees?

I believe there’s always a way out. As a company, we have had to collaborate more as to re-strategize. We haven’t had to lay off any of our employees.

Would you be interested in an entrepreneurial organization that will bring together young Nigerian entrepreneurs to network, co-create and support each other?

Shakeela Tolasade Williams: Sade Hair

A few weeks ago, Forbes Africa released its 2017 list of 30 under 30, which translates to its 30 most promising entrepreneurs for 2017. Five young Nigerians made it into this year’s list.

Young Naija Entrepreneurs had a small chat with one of the fantastic five; Shakeela Tolasade Williams, the gorgeous and intelligent founder of Sade Hair, where she recounted how it all began and how she feels being where she is how right.

Q. Tell us about Sade Hair, how and when did it begin?
A. There is so much to say. We started initially in 2011, almost 7 years ago. I was just selling hair extensions to friends and family and it just grew from there. It didn’t really take off until I quit my job at a High Street Bank and decided to become full time self-employed; that’s when I really saw Sade Hair’s potential.

Q. You had a job at a bank but you quit, why? What gave you the boldness to do that?
A. If you know me as a person you would know that I cannot do anything I do not fully enjoy for too long, and I hate stagnancy. My career in banking was going nowhere fast and I knew I had so much more potential that only I could unlock. The initial support from my family definitely gave me the little extra boost; because they supported my dreams to achieve my best as soon as I had made the decision.

Q. What were your initial challenges starting up?
A. Strangely enough my initial challenge was self-belief. I needed to believe that I was capable of creating something so big from absolutely nothing despite some friends and family not always believing in me. Once I overcame this and proved to myself and others that I can do exactly what I put my mind to, they were all on board and everything began to fall into place.

Q. Nigeria is a big consumer of hair extensions, how do you plan to take advantage of this for your business?
A. The market in Nigeria is huge and one that I cannot wait to fully dive into. I am planning to open up stores over the next few years across Nigeria and I am currently looking for resellers that are interested in becoming partners of Sade Hair Ltd in Nigeria and across Africa.

Q. How does it feel to be listed on Forbes 30 under 30?
A. It’s truly a surreal experience, the support has been overwhelming. I am truly grateful to AncillarMangema for selecting me to be part of such an elite list; especially because I do not take the time to actually appreciate my achievements, I am constantly in work mode and never really take the time to just be thankful that my hard work and prayer is paying off!

Patents by Inventor Olu Atanda
Olu Atanda has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Self-lubricating layer for data storage devices
Patent number: 6677105
Abstract: A silicon nitride self-lubricating layer forms the upper surface of a data storage device, such as a rotating disk or a non-rotating memory device, e.g., a credit card-type memory device using a memory strip. The silicon nitride self-lubricating layer can replace the carbon protective overcoat and liquid lubricant used in conventional data storage devices. The silicon nitride self-lubrication layer provides the desired lubrication and protection between the slider and the data storage device. The silicon nitride layer also will not evaporate under high temperatures found in an optical data storage system. In addition, a data storage device may include a plastic polymer layer over which an iron oxide material is deposited. The use of a plastic polymer layer and iron oxide recording layer is particularly advantageous because a low temperature deposition process can be used with the iron oxide material.
Type: Grant
Filed: May 4, 2001
Date of Patent: January 13, 2004
Assignee: Toda Kogyo Corporation
Inventors: Po Wen Wang, Evan F. Cromwell, Olu Atanda

THE IGBO ENTREPRENEUR IN THE POLITICAL ECONOMY OFNIGERIA

Oluwaseun Osewa

Founder and CEO of Nairaland

Nairaland is Africa’s top most online forum. It was established in March 2005 as a general purpose discussion forum.

The site currently has over 1 million registered users. It is the most popular Nigerian website used by Nigerians both home and abroad together with foreigners who want to obtain information regarding Nigeria.

FULL NAMES: Oluwaseun Osewa

DATE OF BIRTH: 17th July, 1982

OCCUPATION: Webmaster,Site Owner And Business Man

NET WORTH: Nairaland.com ranked to be worth $ 8,737,200.00 {N 1,602,839,340.00} by pageranker

MARITAL STATUS: Not Married

INTRODUCTION

Seun is an Ogun state born Programmer,Webmaster and business man, he’s the founder and owner of Nigeria and Africa’s largest online Forum NAIRALAND the website was the most visited Nigerian and African Site untill 2015 according to Alexa ranking. Seun is a very successful online entrepreneur and a very private person.

EARLY LIFE AND BACKGROUND

Seun Osewa was born and raised in Sango Ota Ogun State Nigeria. He grew up learning and knowing the technological part of life.
Seun osewa has been interested in the internet business since he has known what internet is and how to use it.
Seun enrolled as a student in the University Of Ile Ife to study electrical engineering in 1998 but he did not finish. No, he wasn’t rusticated. Too brilliant to be. Looks like he dropped out of the school to pursue his programming dream and here he is today.

Even though seun never mentioned the year he was introduced to the internet it is obvious the year should be between year 1999/2000 as the the full inspiration of coming into the internet business should be around 2002. And he finally crossed into the internet business in the year 2003.

CAREER AND LIFE
Seun started his internet career in the year 2003 after going into the webhosting business.
He had attempted to start a web hosting business, but after 3 months he could only boast of one customer, so he ran out of capital and the business died.
It would probably have succeeded if he had managed his capital more wisely or raised more money as he got many hosting requests he couldn’t satisfy later that year.
After that first failure, he was encouraged to get certifications and a regular job, but he couldn’t go back to that kind of path after tasting creative freedom, so he kept researching business ideas and presenting them to friends and family, but no capital was forthcoming to carry any of them out. He did this for less than 2 years.

(The last idea was a site for sending SMS messages. He picked up Python to implement it.)
Eventually, he decided to start a web forum, because it was the only idea that required no additional capital: he already had Internet access and a $15 per month VPS graciously paid for by a family friend. He created 3 forums in November 2003 (one for higher institution students, one for IT discussions, and one to cover the emerging GSM industry; the Mobile Nigeria Forum at MobileNigeria.com).
The Mobile Nigeria Forum took off, so he relaunched it in February 2005 with the assistance of Mr. John Sagai Adams, who posted a link to the forum on his mailing list and participated enthusiastically in those early days. Other mobile enthusiasts like Mr. Yomi Adegboye pitched in to make the site a success. In a month or so, the forum had about 300 members, but the growth potential didn’t satisfy him.

He decided to start Nairaland when he noticed two odd things about MobileNigeria:
(1) Despite its narrow focus, it was the only Nigerian community that gave a voice to Nigerians at home. Most other Nigerian sites were owned and dominated by Nigerians in the US or UK. They covered only issues of interests to Nigerians abroad.
(2) The off topic section of the forum, covering topics outside telecoms, like romance and jokes, was becoming more vibrant than the Mobile Nigeria Forum itself, suggesting the need for a more general-purpose Nigerian forum.
This gave him the confidence to take forums like Naijaryders and Talknaija head on by starting a general purpose discussion forum with a strong bias towards issues of interest to Nigerians at home. He felt that such a site could attract enough traffic to make enough money from Google adverts. That’s why he started the Nairaland Forum.

Seun’s initial plan was to be making upto 60k per month but it turned out as time goes on Nairaland got much higher traffic than expected making his income on Nairaland much more than expected.
As Nairaland grows seun had problems with spammers flooding the forum so he started getting helps from moderators he selected.
Seun got help in updating the forum’s frontpage and keeping it clean by moderators like Mukina2 a female mod who has been working with seun since 2007 and others.

As time goes on seun kept enjoying his money gotten from Google ads until year 2012 when Google removed his website because nairaland has too many sexual topics. Which made seun start selling his own ads space on nairaland just like other sites like facebook.com,linkedin.com and etc.
People say seun gets more income from selling these ads spaces than money gotten from Google but he never confirmed that.

In the year 2013 seun entered the Forbes list of best African successful entrepreneurs under 30. Which got him more huge reputation amid-st other co-webmasters in Africa.

Seun was said to be earning as much as 5-6million naira per month when he still works for Google ads but as at 2014 selling ads space was calculated to be generating him as much as 3-4million naira he never confirmed that though.
In 2011 seun was approached by a group of company who wants to buy nairaland for 1 million dollars which is 155million naira but he rejected the approach, and even nairaland’s estimated worth by a site ranker for the year 2011 was 512million naira making it the most expensive nigerian site.
Despite all these money seun whom is expected to be leaving in one huge mansion in estates like Banana island lagos only lives in his hometown sango ota ogun state a very close little city to lagos state.

Fame power, money we all love and seek to have. But as someone that knows Seun quite well -even if not physically yet, and may never – the guy just doesn’t appear to like the celebrity status. Some people use money to buy fame, Seun uses money to run away from it! There are people that will pay to meet Seun Osewa in person, but he has refused to show himself. With the largest African online forum under his control, more than half a million people that depend on his online website to make their day, Seun can easily wield power. But all those appear not to be his style. A case in point: when he was listed by the organizers of The Future Awards in the controversial “Nigeria’s 100 Best” list, which presented him with an opportunity to dine with the celebrities in Aso Rock (what some people will pay millions to get), it didn’t even freak the Ota-based geek. Rather, he sarcastically commented on my Facebook wall when I raised a criticism of the TFA list that, “oh, it’s a good list because I saw my name there”. Oh, he only saw his name there, he didn’t partake in anything – a free ticket to visit Aso rock but he never went. Such is Seun’s abhorrence for fame.

We shall conclude seun looks upto Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg as they both have same attribute of seriousness in their field, facebbook founder wore just one tie throughout a whole year to show a sign of seriousness in making facebook a real big thing and so seun also used just one profile picture in all his online accounts including nairaland for over 2years in which he is till using as at 2014 to show a sign of seriousness in making nairaland much more huge.

Seun once aspired to be a movie producer but never was, may be he is going start in future.
Some people do think seun is a (born again christian) because of some of his gentle gentle pretense but he is totally not. It looks like he is a great fan of actress tonto dikeh has he get involved with posts related to her often on Nairaland.
He is also a great fan of a popular tv series GAME OF THRONES.

Opeyemi Awoyemi, Olalekan Olude and Ayodeji Adewunmi
Founders – Jobberman

Jobberman
is West Africa’s most popular job search engine and aggregator. went live in August 2009, and today the site attracts over 50,000 unique users each day. Through simple, yet cutting-edge technology, Jobberman helps link qualified personnel to the right job opportunities.

Its cofounder and chief visionary is 27-year-old, Nigerian-born Ayodeji Adewunmi. Despite a solid educational background in Medicine & Surgery from one of Nigeria’s most storied Universities, Adewunmi found fame, fortune and fulfillment in an entirely different path.

I chatted with him briefly today, and he recounted his startup story, bragged about his comparative advantage, and mused on the future. Here are some highlights from our talk.

What is Jobberman? Share a few little-known stories about the birth of the site?

has its roots at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria. We were all students at that time and on the 9th of August 2009, I struck gold while reading the making of Naukri.com in the book Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish by Rashmi Bansal. I often tell people, your next million dollar idea might be breathing in the shelf next door! I called up two friends, Opeyemi Awoyemi and Olalekan Olude, and shared my idea of with them. We all became co-founders of the site.

A week later, we were set and ready for operations. I have always believed that allies are essential in business and life. These two individuals are some of the most driven and committed individuals I have ever known, so the selection was only natural.

Jobberman started out only in 2009, but it’s already one of the most popular job sites in the African region. What’s been the catalyst for such rapid growth?

If you are going to be huge in Africa, Nigeria must be a key part of your strategy. This is so true, 'Africa is the gun, Nigeria the trigger'. So by sheer market size, we are addressing a very large and interesting problem. Nigeria is a large country, large working population, and internationally growing. We are intense, focused, disciplined and I'm proud to say we have some of the best intellectual horsepower in this niche. The business got its legs early on because we focused on social media earlier, harder and faster than our rivals. We kept asking ourselves, "Where is our audience?", and social seemed to be the platform.

The Nigerian web space is crowded with a legion of job sites and recruitment boards. What’s your comparative advantage? What does Jobberman do differently from Njorku, or any other classified websites for jobs?

I often joke a lot with friends and associates, "There are more job sites than actual jobs." It sounds ridiculous but I think I've lost count of the number of new entrants since summer of 2009 when we launched. Highlights of our advantage: We’ve got more jobs than anyone else; jobs you won’t find anywhere else. We’ve paid relentless focus to quality listings, anti-spam and products that people generally want. Our product is one of the best in its class - edgy and intuitive - and we have consistently reported one of the highest engagements based on time spent and page views in this niche. We are spending heavily offline and online on marketing, and increased significantly our budget for research and product development to ensure we are the job site of choice for both employers and job seekers.

One significant thing we have done this year was to bring together the human resources community in Nigeria by hosting the first online recruiting conference in the country, Recruiting 2.0, providing insights and intelligence on online recruiting trends and facilitated by international speakers in the space.

Wole Soyinka - Biographical
Wole Soyinka was born on 13 July 1934 at Abeokuta, near Ibadan in western Nigeria. After preparatory university studies in 1954 at Government College in Ibadan, he continued at the University of Leeds, where, later, in 1973, he took his doctorate. During the six years spent in England, he was a dramaturgist at the Royal Court Theatre in London 1958-1959. In 1960, he was awarded a Rockefeller bursary and returned to Nigeria to study African drama. At the same time, he taught drama and literature at various universities in Ibadan, Lagos, and Ife, where, since 1975, he has been professor of comparative literature. In 1960, he founded the theatre group, "The 1960 Masks" and in 1964, the "Orisun Theatre Company", in which he has produced his own plays and taken part as actor. He has periodically been visiting professor at the universities of Cambridge, Sheffield, and Yale.
During the civil war in Nigeria, Soyinka appealed in an article for cease-fire.

For this he was arrested in 1967, accused of conspiring with the Biafra rebels, and was held as a political prisoner for 22 months until 1969. Soyinka has published about 20 works: drama, novels and poetry. He writes in English and his literary language is marked by great scope and richness of words.

As dramatist, Soyinka has been influenced by, among others, the Irish writer, J.M. Synge, but links up with the traditional popular African theatre with its combination of dance, music, and action. He bases his writing on the mythology of his own tribe-the Yoruba-with Ogun, the god of iron and war, at the centre. He wrote his first plays during his time in London, The Swamp Dwellers and The Lion and the Jewel (a light comedy), which were performed at Ibadan in 1958 and 1959 and were published in 1963. Later, satirical comedies are The Trial of Brother Jero (performed in 1960, publ. 1963) with its sequel, Jero's Metamorphosis (performed 1974, publ. 1973), A Dance of the Forests (performed 1960, publ.1963),
Kongi's Harvest (performed 1965, publ. 1967) and Madmen and Specialists (performed 1970, publ. 1971). Among Soyinka's serious philosophic plays are (apart from " The Swamp Dwellers"wink The Strong Breed (performed 1966, publ. 1963),
The Road ( 1965) and Death and the King's Horseman (performed 1976, publ. 1975). In
The Bacchae of Euripides (1973), he has rewritten the Bacchae for the African stage and in Opera Wonyosi (performed 1977, publ. 1981), bases himself on John Gay's
Beggar's Opera and Brecht's The Threepenny Opera. Soyinka's latest dramatic works are
A Play of Giants (1984) and Requiem for a Futurologist (1985).

Soyinka has written two novels, The Interpreters (1965), narratively, a complicated work which has been compared to Joyce's and Faulkner's , in which six Nigerian intellectuals discuss and interpret their African experiences, and
Season of Anomy (1973) which is based on the writer's thoughts during his imprisonment and confronts the Orpheus and Euridice myth with the mythology of the Yoruba. Purely autobiographical are The Man Died: Prison Notes (1972) and the account of his childhood, Aké ( 1981), in which the parents' warmth and interest in their son are prominent. Literary essays are collected in, among others, Myth, Literature and the African World (1975).

Soyinka's poems, which show a close connection to his plays, are collected in
Idanre, and Other Poems (1967), Poems from Prison (1969), A Shuttle in the Crypt (1972) the long poem Ogun Abibiman (1976) and Mandela's Earth and Other Poems (1988).
