A nation of 180 million footballers. What do you expect when we have a poor football structure. We ONLY rely on FIFA age-grade competitions to discover our talents and HOPE that they reach their full potential in Europe. komekn: |

goldfish80:My major concern is : financing a 24 nations Tourney in the middle of the rainy season. This implies boosting infrastructures in the 6 venues to Take care of the effect of the heavy rains. IE building covered stadiums and put in place excellent drainage system where the stadium is not covered. We know how it rains in most countries of West, Central and East Africa at this time of the year. I remember how a game was abandoned in Enugu when Nigeria hosted the 2009 FIFA U17 WC. The game was later completed at noon the next day. IMO CAF ought to have just only moved the timing first. And later in the not too far future considered an expansion. Be it as it may, I suggest CAF encourages co-existing by 2 neighboring nations bc of the financial burden of hosting the 24 nations tournament. Or alternatively limit hosting to only countries that have the economic and financial capabilities. |

Godfrey Oboabona joins Saudi Arabia's Al-Ahli FC KweséESPN Nigeria international Godfrey Oboabona has signed a one-year deal with Saudi Arabian heavyweights Al-Ahli Saudi FC. The centre-back moves to the Jeddah-based outfit on a one-year deal - with the option of a one-year extension - after leaving Caykur Rizespor, the Saudi side confirmed on their official Twitter handle. Official: Nigerian defender Godfrey Oboabona signed a 1-year contract with Al-Ahli. #AHLIFC pic.twitter.com/tKyHZNoN1E - AlAhli Saudi Club (@ALAHLI_FCEN) July 21, 2017 Oboabona had spent the last four years in Turkey after joining Rizespor in August 2013, but departed the club at the beginning of the month following the Black Sea Sparrowhawk's relegation, having come to the end of his contract. The 26-year-old was a key figure in the Nigeria side that won the Africa Cup of Nations under the late Stephen Keshi in 2013, but has lost his place in the Super Eagles in recent months, following the appointment of Gernot Rohr. He represented Sunshine Stars in the NPFL before departing for Europe in 2013 and was once forced to deny speculation that he'd criticised Arsene Wenger after being offered a trial at Arsenal. His new club were one of the founding members of the Saudi Pro League and have never been relegated, having won three league titles, 13 King Cups and one Super Cup during their existence. Last season they finished second in the Pro League - 11 points behind rivals Al-Hilal - and will be hoping that the addition of Oboabona can help them win their first title since 2016. |

Icon4s:The last time I checked, the npfl has 20 teams. In every game,2 goalkeepers make the match day squad .In others words,we have above 40 goalkeepers in the NPFL. At least he must have seen or will see up to 19 and more goalkeepers in action due to injuries, red card etc. Alloy Agu is not up and doing.. |

Spanish giants make N2.1billion bid for Onazi .com Jul 14, 2017 10:58 AM By: Linus Onyeze Share: Ogenyi Onazi is the subject of a N2.1bn bid from Spanish giants, Sevilla, according to reports. Ogenyi Onazi is the subject of a N2.1bn bid from Spanish giants, Sevilla, according to reports. Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi is the subject of interest from Spanish giants, Sevilla, and they are ready to back up their interest with an official bid for the Nigeria international. The former Europa League winners are ready to make a bid of €6million (N2.1billion) for Onazi, according to ScoreNigeria. Sevilla have recently sold their captain and midfielder Vicente Iborra to Leicester City, and are on the lookout for a replacement and are looking towards the direction of Onazi, who they believe can fill the void left by Iborra’s departure. Only recently, it was reported that Onazi cancelled his contract with his Turkish club, Trabzonspor, but later reports suggested he was renegotiating with the Super Lig club. But it does seem the 23-year old will be on his way out this summer. “Sevilla contacted Eddy’s (Onazi) agent for a possible transfer this summer. They will soon table an official bid of about six million Euros,” ScoreNigeria quoted a source. Former Lazio midfielder Onazi is currently in pre-season camp in with Trabzonspor after he resolved a pay row that almost caused him to walk out on the Turkish club.

BascoVanVeli:Bringing the gulf countries in will increase the number of countries who can actually host the thing. Apart from South Africa, Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia, no other African country can conviently host the tournament. We are talking about a 2 year interval between two tournaments. There's no shame in accepting the reality on ground. Cameroun are toiling already just to host the next one. Football have gone beyond kick and follow. We are talking about various aspects of the game African countries have not even started developing. Talk about sports science, technology and what have you. China have already invested billions to this. The project in China is already attracting the best across the globe. Just take a lost at all the coaches working in China. We are talking about 2 World Cup winners and dozens of championship winning managers. The Chinese players don't need to go to Europe, Europe is coming to them. After looking at how far their project have come in just a few years, one wonder what could be in the offing in the future. I haven't even talked about Chinese buisness men buying top European clubs, the implications is that you may see Chinese teams play in the Champions league in the future. This can easily happen since they are gradually gaining the voting power by acquiring those clubs You may say this is just about league football, but it is not. Everything is heading towards winning the World Cup. Every world cup winning country have a good league at home. There is a method to their madness. If Africa cannot explore options on the table to inject more money into the game here, no prayers or juju can make us win the World Cup. Not with events unfolding across the globe. China are building capacity to go one better than South Korea. What is the African project if I should ask? Prayers? |

We are still waiting for England to win the WC. Japan or South Korea will win it before Chjna dreams of it. You can read between the lines. Modified. When it comes to the World Cup, you can wear a pig lipstick but it won't change it. Some countries don't just cut it. Yes having a good league and good development structure is important, but some countries will have these but will still wait centuries to win the mundial. goldfish80: |

Joebie:I appreciate your points but the truth is that what the Chinese are doing cannot be compared with what these countries you listed attempted. If it was a sexual escaped, it will be considered very dry and apologetic if you try to connect what the Koreans and Japanese attempted with that of China. The case of England is like that of the famous under achieving Spain and Portugal. Their time to shine will come. |

Icon4s:sir that's not what I mean.... you always so concerned about the now... the truth is agu have defaulted in his job... why keep inviting a goalkeeper who is not even a first choice goalie for his NPFL club side...let alone among the top 5 best goalie in the domestic league keshi did same thing on us...with agbim. I so much hate these practices of indigenous coaches not always fair wit their team selection. the reason for scouting for a good goalie from the domestic scene would have been his gradual integration into the team, instilling of confidence and provide room for competition wit the likes of alampasu.....and groom for the future..... let's say 2-3 years from now. |
