Please do not bother with these idiots, 99% of the ibos businesses do not remit vat assuming they even charge you for VAT has anybody paid vat on spareparts in Ladipo? It's only companies like Leventis, Mandilas, Stallion that charge VAT
The truth is that 95% of Igbos are in the informal sector of the economy in Lagos and Nigeria in general, and we all know how hard it is to collect any form of statutory taxes from the informal sector of the Nigerian economy.
But that is a fact that always flies over their heads. wink

This Yoruba and Ibo quarrel everyday on nairaland, make una try. Na only una dey dis country.
There are other States mentioned, but you don't see their indigenes make noise here.

What Lagos is today is the collective effort of every Lagosian no matter your tribe, as long as you reside in Lagos. But I see no reason why anyone will be angry if Yorubas boast of Lagos, because whether we like it or not, Lagos is a Yoruba State and will remain with the Yorubas, whoever doesn't like it should go develop his/her native land.

As for my beloved Rivers we shall surely get there.

How is it your business? Since its not in your region and since its not proceeds from your region which will be used ietpn developing it, why do you care?

They should open it up so that anytime you disagree with government you can threaten to blow things up or actually blow things up the way you've been blowing oil pipelines and holding nigeria to ransom through such rascality?

I haven't said those at home are poor but yes they have less disposable income compared to many outside.

Igbos move to wherever are economic opportunities. Yes, Lagos for obvious reasons has more economic opportunities than any other state in Nigeria that's why you have millions of Igbos there and doing well. My brother left the East in 1995 for Lagos with only a plastic bag containing all his earthly belongings to go 'serve oga'. Today, he's a billionaire in nairn, employing people, owns properties in Surulere, Ikeja and banana island. Note, he's only armed with WAEC certificate but today employs 7 pharmacists, accountants etc. Mind you, he's just one out of many. How many locals have such success stories?
Evans too had such success story with properties in choice location and exotic cars but now we know better

I don't even know why they quarell like two women who married the same husband.

To me even the Lagos is way overrated. I prefer Abuja a million times.

you do know that South Sudan is landlocked right? How can a landlocked nation thrive especially amidst hostile nations?

Also How did their call for secession equate to greed when their resources were being carted away to the north who then marginalized them.

You people should stop being sentimental. I'm not Igbo but secession is their right if they so desire it.
MicroBox:
Our oil! Our oil!! Our oil!!!
Sudan has oil but because of IPOB like minds always crying foul, South Sudan was formed, Now they have the oil but faced with the actual reason behind the call for succession *Greed* it's now oil for weapon to kill one another.
There is more to the Economy other than oil. by 2030 Britain will be facing out hydrocarbon cars and before then, other countries will follow suit.
Nigeria spotted the motives behind Nnamdi Kanu call for succession so it's not ready to give part of Nigeria to a particular group of people..
Compete with Lagos first to see how you can cope if giving a country.

No this is why things need to change, let me explain:

Mineral resources: money goes to federal

Company tax: money goes to federal

VAT: money goes to federal

The only money you keep as a state is income tax from residennts and any other revenue like license fees, okada rider fees, market women fees, advertising fees etc etc.

So tell me what is the incentive for states? Let's take a state like Ekiti, you give hectares of land to an agric company they make billions but most of the employees are low level (because that's the nature of farming) so the income tax you get is not much. The company declares billions in profit but the company tax goes to the federal govt. Same with mining, you bring out so much gold or coal or gypsum from your soil and federal takes all the benefits, the company tax, the royalties, all the VAT and shares it with other states who have not even bothered to develop their natural resources and then gives you a pittance in return....is that fair? There is no state in Nigeria that isnt viable, youve heard it many times but there is no incentive to be productive because monkey can't be working only for baboon to chop.

Because states dont attract big companies because of this lack of incentivised environment, it means generally speaking you dont attract high earning big spending middle income people, so if you look at IGR, it corresponds with the number of middle class people you have in your state....simple as! How much tax do you want to get from a market woman or akada rider? One GM pays the equivalent income tax as 1000 Okada riders, so the question is how many GMs do you have in your state, which is a function of how many big compandies you have operating in your state.

On the issue of VAT how many people can afford to shop in places where they pay VAT, Does a poorman shop at Shoprite? is there shop rite in Ekiti? So even though the man in Lagos and the man in Ekiti are both buying fanta, the man in Ekiti is not paying VAT on his fanta and so you cannot remit VAT you didnt collect.
Nice analysis

Open up the seaports in Rivers, Delta, Cross River state and see if the VAT will not increase, the Lagos we see is because of the see ports and the airport, there's nothing special about Lagos, all the. Coastal states had same value both they neglected them and focused only on Lagos, but if the Govt should open up all the ports in the Niger Delta, you would experience a lot of growth.
Are you thinking with ya anus??

If you can, i'll advice you to start asking the right question starting from "how much is the federal government making from my/your region every month/annually? afterall fg publish the amount given among the 36 states of the federation
