Many people know Olufemi Otedola as the Nigerian billionaire, who has his hands firmly entrenched in the oil sector. But what most folks do not know, is that he is also a big player in the power generation industry as well. His subsidiary known as Amperion Power Distribution Company Limited (Amperion Power) acquired the majority stake in the 435MW Geregu Power Plant located in Kogi State of Nigeria, under the government-led privatization programme in the power sector.

Amperion Power tied up a partnership arrangement with the State Grid Corporation of China, one of the world's largest utility company, as its technical partner.

The Geregu Power Plant was commissioned in 2007 with three Siemens V94.2 open cycle gas turbine power generation units, totaling 414MW of installed capacity. Each of the 3 units have a rated capacity of 138MW each. The station is supplied with natural gas from two pipelines, a 24-inch wide old pipeline and 36-inch wide 136 KM long new pipeline from the Natural Gas Treatment Plant. These are able to satisfy the gas requirements of 3 units running on a full load of 435MW.

The name Geregu is derived from the host local community of the power plant located in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State in the North Central area of Nigeria.

In addition to these assets, Femi Otedola owns Forte Oil Plc, an indigenous energy company, which has over 500 fuel retail stations located nationwide, and a petroleum products fuel depot with a storage capacity of 147,000 metric tonnes. Forte Oil Plc used to be known as African Petroleum Plc., until govt divested itself of its shares in 2007. He also owns SeaForce Shipping Company, which is said to control one of the largest shipping fleets, in the country.

Ayo Van Elmar is owned by Nigerian designer Ayo Elizabeth Olaogun.

‘Ayo’ is African, ‘Van’ is Dutch while Elmar’ was coined from a Spanish word meaning ‘sea’…. a fusion of where the brand is heading.

She moved to Austria when she was 18 years old and came into the fashion designing industry in 2010. Her first collection “Magic Shields” was released in the year 2012. She is one of Nigeria’s most sought after designer with a lot of works under her belt.

It has been a very successful year for Ayo from releasing her Spring/Summer 2016 collection “Fishbone” which was the talk of the town for a very long time to showcasing the “Elegant & Chic” collection at the ELOY Awards last month and opening her fashion cafe in the month of October at the Oriental hotel, opening doors to other designers to stock their collections.

Popular Nigerian Nollywood celebrity actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele was unveiled as the new face of the Ayo Van Elmar brand earlier this month.

A pharmacist and a multi-talented Chief Executive, he presides over several organisations including, BAS Consulting Ltd, a renewable energy consulting and capacity building firm; Rubitec Solar, a renewable energy company; and Rubitec Power, a provider of gas generators for the local market in partnership with German partners, 2G-Africa. Mr Soremekun is also the founder of IREC-Africa, a renewable energy NGO.

Rubitec Power Limited, is a Nigerian Company specializing in captive and embedded power generation, utilizing gas generation and renewable energy. Its' business model is to provide smaller scale generation in the 400KW to over 25MW range from gas-powered equipment, and unlimited sizes from renewable energy, with initial focus on on-grid solar systems.

Their vision is to be the leading gas generating and renewable energy company in Nigeria, in captive and embedded generation for the benefit of urban communities, as well as industrial and commercial organisations. Rubitec Power has evolved from being a renewable energy company in the last 10 years, to being a power generating company.

The firm has partnered with 2G Africa, a subsidiary company of 2G GmbH, the largest provider of gas generators in Europe, with over 4,000 CHP units built, delivered, installed, commissioned and maintained in more than 25 countries worldwide. Their main focus is concentrated not just on selling and commissioning, but especially on maintaining the quality and performance of existing installations.

Rubitec's products include solar powered systems, inverters, gas generators, solar powered air-conditioners, solar refrigerators etc.

Following a successful pilot, full implementation of the Light-Up Kwara (LUK), an innovative solar-powered streetlight project of the Kwara State government, commenced in June 2017. The roll-out plan for the Solar Farm Tunnels (SFTs), which will be for the dual arm poles,
will include installation of a total of 341 poles covering 9.7km across 11 routes within Ilorin metropolis.

It will be recalled that in February this year, the State Government signed a technical agreement with two firms, Riccofortezza-Asteven Energy Limited and Rubitec Power Limited for the execution of the Light-Up Kwara (LUK) project. The two firms are to handle the project on build, finance, operate and transfer basis under the state Infrastructure Development Fund(IFK). https://breaking.com.ng/nigeria/kwara-begins-luk-roll-out-in-june-3/
