Chief Suara Olayiwola Alani Bankole is a Nigerian businessman and chieftain from Ogun State. He is Chairman of West African Aluminum Products(WAAP) Plc. He holds the aristocratic titles Oluwo of Iporo Ake and Seriki Jagunmolu of Egbaland. He attended Baptist Boys High School in Abeokuta, and later went to the University of Ghana for further studies.

West African Aluminum Products(WAAP) Plc is involved in manufacturing and sale of aluminum products including, importing, buying, selling and exchanging aluminum products in Nigeria. The firm was established in 1975 and listed on the stock exchange, on 6th September 1989. As at 2012, it had an investment of over three billion naira, with volume of business in the region of N500 Million.

In 2008, NITEL's head office - 37-storey landmark building standing over 160m (520ft) high skyscraper on Marina, Lagos known as NECOM house was sold to West African Aluminum Products (WAAP) Plc, for =N=4 billion naira. The sale was carried out by the Liquidator of NITEL/M-Tel Staff Pension Fund, Messrs Olusola Adekanola and Co.

However, a former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Ambassador Stephen Willoughby, challenged the sale claiming that former President Olusegun Obasanjo, in a memo dated May 16, 2007, had approved the Presidential Task force’s recommendation that NECOM House be retained in the schedule of NITEL’s core operational assets, due to its strategic importance to the SAT-3 operations. This led to the revocation of the sale in 2011.

Alani Bankole put the set back behind him, and focused on his other key business concerns, such as Freight Agencies Nigeria Ltd, the first freight company in West Africa, through which he became a multimillionaire at the age of 34. Alani Bankole is currently the Chairman, Board of Trustees, of the newly registered Action Democratic Party, ADP. His son is Dimeji Bankole, used to be the former Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Ladi Delano: Nigerian Billionaire and CEO, Bakrie Delano Africa (Nigeria)

Nothing excites me more than hearing about Nigerians with sound business nous, who work hard, focus, and dominate in their chosen field. And every time I hear about one, I’ma blog about them. That being said, I know we’re tardy to the party, but as this is a new blog, we have some catching up to do.

Presenting Ladi Delano: at the age of 22, the jet-setting Nigerian serial entrepreneur made his first millions as a liquor entrepreneur while living in China. He founded Solidarnosc Asia, a Chinese alcoholic beverage company that made Solid XS, a premium brand of vodka. To do this, Delano took language lessons and traveled the country in order to sell his product and get it into the mainstream.

During the first six months, volumes were not rising but the marketing budget was dwindling. He took the bold step along with a business partner to pack up shop from the UK and relocate to Hong Kong and simply try to figure it all out. In three years, Solid XS went on to achieve over 50% market share in China and was distributed across over 30 cities in China, and pulled in $20 million in annual revenue.

Ladi-Delano 2Delano subsequently sold the company to a rival liquor company for over $15 million and ploughed his funds into his next venture-The Delano Reid Group, a real estate investment holding company focused on mainland China. Today, Delano is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Bakrie Delano Africa (BDA) – a $1 billion joint venture with the $15 billion (market cap) Bakrie Group of Indonesia. Bakrie Delano Africa serves as the investment partner of the Bakrie Group in Nigeria.

I honestly can’t understand what it is about him I find so attractive…

Kunbi Tinuoye

Founder UrbanGeekz

I launched UrbanGeekz to fill a much-needed gap in the marketplace. This digital news platform is the first-of-its-kind content site that covers technology, business, and entrepreneurship from a multicultural perspective.”

“I always identified as being British-Nigerian. When I was younger, I traveled back to Nigeria, so that helps when you go back home. The first time I went was at 13...”
Growing up, Kunbi heard the language, went to Nigerian parties, and had friends from all walks of life – Asians, Africans, and Jamaicans.

Her identity was never a question.

Intro to Journalism

At the University of Cambridge, one of the world's leading academic centers, Kunbi’s cultural foundation never wavered within a predominately White student and faculty population.

She decided on a dual program where she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Social and Political Science. And by the time Kunbi graduated, she knew journalism was her calling.

Her career began as a reporter for London’s Evening Standard newspaper, and the signs of a promising journalist sprouted – placing BBC News on alert. They picked her up and gave her the opportunity to solidify her presence in broadcast journalism.

For a couple of years, Kunbi took on multimedia roles, including working as a Web Content Producer and TV Producer at BBC South East Today, and a TV Producer at BBC World News.

A personal getaway became a turning point in Kunbi’s life. Simply visualizing a Black middle class filled with Black professionals, she saw an opportunity. And an added bonus: commerce, nightlife, real estate, and even the weather were all great!

“For me, Atlanta just worked.”

In 2011, Kunbi emigrated from the UK to America; making Atlanta her new home along with theGrio – an American website with news, opinion, entertainment and video content geared toward African-Americans.

*theGrio originally launched as a division of NBC News in 2009, and became a division of MSNBC in 2013.

theGrio

“I had such a great experience at theGrio. At the time, Joy Reid* was the Managing Editor at theGrio. She hired me. She is a phenomenal, amazing manager; such a great person and role model.”

*Joy-Ann Lomena-Reid, also known as Joy Reid, is a host and national correspondent at MSNBC covering politics.

When Kunbi joined theGrio as a News Correspondent for the southeast, the company’s head office was based at the Rockefeller Center in New York, but she was based in Atlanta. This distance afforded her flexibility and the opportunity to essentially be her own boss.

She was responsible for dictating the agenda for what needed to be covered in southern states, particularly Georgia and Florida. In addition, Kunbi reached out to several national and international connects to cover stories from Africa, Europe, as well as domestic headliners.

Through theGrio, Kunbi got a taste of independence within the world of journalism. For almost 4 years, she primarily worked from home and enjoyed every bit of it. So when it came time for her to make her next career move, working for someone was unfathomable.

“…I knew I wanted to do my own thing. The next thing was to build a great brand

Founder Jobberman/WhoGoHost Limited

Jobberman was started from a dorm room at the Obafemi Awolowo University. Fast forward to 2016, and Africa’s largest jobs website is one of the most recognisable startup success stories on the continent. Its founding trio are constantly feted with congratulatory confetti — recently, Mark Zuckerberg name-checked them.

Now, one of them, Opeyemi Awoyemi and Passion Incubator’s Olufunbi Falayi are starting a fund to get behind the ideas of Nigerian university undergrads and recent graduates who are possibly building the next Jobberman. Along with Nigerian university alumni and other high net-worth individuals, Fast Forward plans to invest up to N200 million (just over $600,000), with a ticket size of between N250,000 and N2,000,000, for up to 25 percent equity in each venture.

Opeyemi describes the thinking behind Fast Forward.

“Graduate unemployment in Nigeria is at an alarming high which begs the question — what is being taught in our schools? If education is supposed to be the way to be empowered, what changed? A lot has changed and it’s clear today that the way to create jobs is by encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship.”

While seemingly unconnected, the move seems to have precedent. Jobberman recently made a strategic investment in Stutern, which is essentially a bet on the prospects of two green twin entrepreneurs, fresh off the school boat themselves.

Aside allowing users to list events on the platform, Truppr also helps companies organise events for their staff. So far, Truppr has organised a couple of fitness events for brands, and the startup gets commission for putting the events together.

Truppr also has an online store for sport items and currently owns 100% of the inventory. There are possibilities that the store would be open up to retailers of sporting materials to showcase and sell their wares on the store. Sport wares stores would also be able to showcase their wares as time goes.

TUNDE AFOLABI’S SUCCESS SECRETS | THISDAY Newspapers | 29 Nov 2015

It is no exaggeration that Tunde Afolabi, MFR, Chairman & CEO of Amni Petroleum Company, one of the most successful indigenous oil production companies in Nigeria, knows his onions, having been in business since 1996. In spite of the vagaries of the business, his company has remained afloat with a lot of success stories.

His company was awarded the Okoro Field and Setu Field located in OML 112 in shallow water offshore Nigeria, as part of the Nigerian government’s indigenous licensing programme. The total gross production at the Okoro field in 2013 was 6.5 million barrels of oil, representing a gross average daily rate of 18,041 barrels per day.

In 2015, he shared his testimony of how the Almighty God pulled his firm through what would have been a financial crisis, earlier that year. That was when Afren Plc, his foreign partners in the Okoro field, experienced a major crisis in their operations. Desperate not to go under, Afolabi ran to God in prayers; and by divine intervention, his own firm was protected from the fallout, and things ended on an upbeat note for him and Amni.

Prior to that incident, God’s might had been manifested in his business, when he was awarded all the three oil and gas assets he had bidded for, during the last round of bids for oil blocks.

These are the qualities that make me proud of being Yoruba. Checks and balances, fairness etc. In fact the white men who came were in awe of our Oyo empire political system complete with its own checks and balances. Its unfortunate we mixed with a wrong crowd in this 'mere geographical expression'

Weldone guys for checking and verifying what you post. Yoruba don't do success at all cost. Ka ka kin ja ole, ma ya di eru apologies to dayokanu

owner of Amni Petroleum
bought the compny from sanni bello
He was formerly the MD/CEO of the company but He now owns the company
Actually, Tunde Afolabi set up Amni. undecided He invited Sani Bello to join him as a director, because Sani Bello had the funds, while he had the knowledge & expertise. He later bought over Sani Bello's shares several years later, and retired him with a huge pay-out! cheesy cool
