Greeks name their kids... Jesus.
We name our kids... Emmanuel.
U r free to name your kid Jesus buh do not put Christ.
Jesus is just a name... Ppl answer it. There's a difference between Jesus and Jesus Christ.

Bro, it might be 'just a name' to some people, but to us who believe, it's more than just a name. The Bible says in Philippians 2:10 that at the name of JESUS, every knee should bow...

Because you worship it, that is why! You will worship his garments if you saw it today. That is what is wrong with many of your black Christians. You just want to worship something.

For your information, Jesus is just a name. The Christ is what ought to distinguish him.

[quote author=remi1444 post=59195071]from my personal observation parent tends not to call their children Jesus because its a name above every other name by so doing we need to accord respect to it. you know some children who are stubborn if their parents intend scolding or yelling at them, dont you think they might say "JESUS ARE YOU CRAZY? They will out of anger(insult against our most high son, our mediator). so to prevent situations of them insulting our most high God son its better not to call their children

what of Emmanuel. Emmanuel are you crazy..... that you explanation has problem

Jesus is a Greek word

some Greeks bear Jesus

it's not just come in Africa

Emmanuel which is the synonym of Jesus is preferred here

The Hebrew name Yeshua translates into Greek as Iésous. This is the name that the angel Gabriel commanded Joseph to name Mary’s child: “You are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). The name Jesus is a simply a Greek form of Joshua, a common name among Jews. The same verse also alludes to the meaning of the name: the Lord was to be named Jesus because “he will save his people from their sins.” The name Jesus means “The Lord Saves” or “The Lord Is Salvation.” Whether you spell it Jesus or Jesu or Joshua or Yeshua, the meaning stays the same, it is not a Greek word, or the name of a Greek god.

Jesus is not a Greek word! The original text is "Esau". Its English connotation is Jesus. Thanks.

We use the name Jesus, an Anglicized transliteration of the Greek, because Greek is the language that Matthew and Mark and Luke and John wrote their Gospels in and because English is the language we speak. The best translation of Iésous into modern English is “Jesus.”

Part of Timothy’s work as a pastor was to “command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer or to devote themselves to myths” (1 Timothy 1:3–4). Paul was concerned that “such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God’s work—which is by faith” (verse 4). Conspiracy theories and myths regarding the etymology of Jesus’ name are distractions from the true work of God. We should not pay any heed to claims that the name Jesus means anything but what Scripture says it means: “The Lord Saves.”

Jesus is the name of God. You don't name ur child Jehovah, Elohim or Holy Spirit so dont name them Jesus. Many christians dont do it globally, not just nigerians. It is the name we pray in, it shouldnt be commonised.

The white man imposed religion(Christianity) on us to make us subservient, docile and "more tolerable" and it worked.
Now I'm a Christian, don't get me wrong but Christianity and religion as a whole is one of the reasons Africa is as backward as it is because Africans being the highly superstitious beings that we are over abuse these religions which is why we can't think and act but pray to our God to solve even the slightest problems.
Now back to the topic,as holy as he was,the name "JESUS" is really just a name which is why so many Latin Americans and the rest bear that name. They see nothing wrong in giving their kids such names but over here where we are so religiously inclined it is perceived as a taboo. These pple that brought us religion are more liberal and neutral about it than we the recipients.

Because the word Jesus was formerly spelt as Iesous as the letter 'J' was introduced in d year 1600. Iesous is combination of Ie and sous. Ie means hail, while sous means Zeus d greek god. So in encient greek word Iesous/jesus means hail zeus. Our Messiah's name is Yeshua in Hebrew. Jesus is a greek word meaning hail zeus.

MissRaine69:

That's not correct actually as in the Western and Eastern Syriac Christian traditions the name Jesus does not exist they use the Aramaic Yeshu and Yisho and not Jesus that name arose much later as biblical texts where translated over the many centuries from Aramaic- Ancient Greek - Latin - Old English - modern English. Yeshua/Jesus is used in many Coptic Christians as well as amongst the Jewish community. Jesus does not translate into ancient Amharic, Ancient Greek or Latin. Yeshua( which later became Jesus) means hear " a cry for saving , a saving cry , my help.
