We listened to this on Star fm 101.5 and just had to share.

A girl’s parents die when she is 14 and somehow ends up with a young man that is a fruit seller who sends her to school with the proceeds of his business.

Later, he becomes a truck driver and continues paying for her training until she is 26 years old today and is now a lawyer.

Now, she is feeling uncomfortable about this her truck driver benefactor with marriage on the horizon. She feels she is above his level and is looking for a way to tell him.

She is looking for advice on how to do it without hurting his feelings although she is grateful for all he has done for her.

What do you think about this situation?

She would have sought for advice on how to stop her benefactor from helping her through school and upkeep for 12 years. He was good enough for her before and now that she has 'arrived', he isn't good anymore.

Honestly, I used to think nothing can shock me from all the stories I have read on Nairaland or heard elsewhere.

The man didn't mess up. I believe the mman would have made his intentions known before now. If that was the case, the lady in question should have stopped any assistance from the Fruit-seller-turned-truck-driver since she knew shed definitely turn down the man's offer.

Verdict- Why smell what you don't want to eat? If she could smell it, then she should be ready to eat it. If she could receive help for 12years from a man, then she can do the marriage. Watch as karma fall on her soon.

I kind of agree with this. Don't let love or pity blind you to give things you cannot afford to lose. Human beings are overwhelmingly disloyal.

I have tried looking at it from her angle, I cannot see any angle O. You must to marry this Truck Driver O. Whether he curses or not, her own 'Living in Bondage' will pass Kanayo O. Kanayo's own multiplied by 1,000 if she leaves solely on this 'I am a lawyer' level.

Well its not anything new if she doesn't want to be with the guy she can leave, ideally for most women you are only as useful as what you provide for them, once they reach that level of self sufficiency, they wake up and realize you are beneath them. I don't believe in karma the universe is indifferent, its possible this woman will live happily ever after, that's just life. So you see its a strange dilemma such man will later resolve never to help any lady not his wife, then the next babe will categorize him as being stingy or a broke-ass. It also happens in the reverse case too, woman helping a man only to be deceived. The solution is when helping don't expect anything from anyone and always have a low opinion of everyone that way if they disappoint you by being honest its a good disappointment if they don't at least its what you expected.

Well there's nothing wrong with helping someone but if you decide to sponsor a young girl to school with the intention of marrying her,the smart thing to do is marry her first and sponsor her education while she lives with you.

Not in my case. I would want the person to return the money I spent. After that, they are free to move on. It does not mean no one will be hurt, but marriage should never be a do or die affair. Why would you want someone who doesn't want you? That is how people are murdered do to frustration.

She is not entitled, but it's the right thing to do. I've seen situations like this in life and its better to do what's honorable. I would rather move on with a clear conscience and live my life.

Amazing love story.

I believe the man raised her out of AGAPE love, and not with a canal mind set.
She should reciprocate same with AGAPE love and marry where she finds her own love.
She should not center her reason for not marrying him on social status because she herself is just a baby lawyer in the making - she never reach anywhere.

To be frank, most lawyers are broke .... The profession comes with just effizy and packaging, painfully these things don't pay the bills

Off topic, I almost missed not joining in this story thinking i had to drop my believes before i comment, knowing its a friday and you are the OP, many other times, i may have to contribute to or sick clarifications on some threads on FP on a day like this, but usually meet this very disclaimer. Could you please explain why this is so.
