I never asked for an enlightenment on crude formation not to talk of hydrocarbon formation as a whole. I was referring to the period in future when the crude oil (not gas) will most likely not be in commercial quantity, what will be the fate of these communities n states. Knowing they have been adversely affected by drilling and production activities.

In other words, at that point where cost of extraction is no longer attractive for investors and technology isn't available to rip the reservoir of every drop of oil, what then, will be the fate of these communities?

In terms of remediation and compensation.

Thanks.

That's why I wrote what I did but you insist you don't need enlightment when you clearly do.Hydrocarbon formation is a continuous process ie it will never stop as far as there is life on earth .The same was said of coal . The coal at Enugu are still there rather technology mo ed on . In as much as technology still deem crude relivant the situation is same . There forever will be crude in them areas the only IF is if cheaper sources are discovered as seen not long ago in the UK and US .

I think those from the ND are justly right to lead the fight for self determination they have every reason to, why they are holding back still baffles me. even with their oil wealth they hold No power to save their region from disaster. If I where to be from that region my first goal would be to lobby one of the big two from the south especially those who share the same ideology as I do.
Then we sign an MOU checkmating any loopholes that will make us feel suspicious of each other, prepare and draft how things will be done in the eventuality of a successful break up which must be entail in the MOU. They say if one wants something perfectly done, he should do it himself, NDeltans should stop being redundant and raise their voices, strike the iron when it Hot. this is the period of self determination you should not be sorry for wanting to leave this contraception for the betterment of the future of ur children, stop sitting on the fence.
Come out in mass and save ur region.

This is another angle that I always laugh about.....Self determination....Okay. Lets say today they get self determination, who will be the leaders in the Niger Delta....is it no the same people who holding senatorial, governorship, counselor positions right now......

People that do not care now....do you think they will now start caring when self determination is given.........

The problem is in the leadership.......hold those leaders by the balls and they will be the one running to Abuja to get things done in their backyard.....A Governor, Local government chairman, counselor will sit down in his office forming boss...when his people are suffering desperately....and we will be pointing fingers to some far off government....they should put their leaders on their toes

When Niger Deltans agitate for development it is as if they are asking too much. The whole country enjoyed the milk flowing yet we live in abject poverty.

As par development, I see NDDC keep getting funds.....what do they do with it....Fund they have gotten runs into billions where has all the money gone.......And the leadership of NDDC are from the ND

Secondly the Niger Delta is part of several states....why are the governors not also developing those areas.....

NDDC is not well funded. The allocations are sometimes not disbursed fully. Recently you would hear cry from students been sponsored by the commission of abandonment. The terrain is not like other parts of the country. I will not say government have totally neglected the people but the dividend never gets to host community. Niger Delta is continuously been raped and no one seems to care.

These are the COLLECTIVE INDIVIDUALS who took the money meant for damage control, spillage, Beneficiary (if they found oil on your family land) and so much more benefits that comes with CRUDE OIL.

Check the North na, they're even poorer, so sis our problem is within

So why are they not taking the fight to those that are closer to them ...that are meant to get things done and table their case to the larger government.....,they need to put the fear of God and Man into those their leaders

As par the NDDC fund do the communities know how much goes in there and do they call them to account at the year ends....
They need to call them to account, they were established solely for their development ....no other region in Nigeria has this..

The Niger delta is a complex region. The government a the centre should do more close monitoring of these funds. I can't pay my son's school fees without asking for result at the end of the term. Disbursing the money isn't the only issue. Was ur aim achieved should always be in our retrospect.

Does the Niger Delta not have representation at the Federal level....what are their senators doing, what are the governors of those states doing, what are their counselors doing and local government chairmen doing....

These are the people that they should hold to get things done for them......complaining to their fellow Nigerians or posting on Nairaland who are also facing neglect from government is not going to solve anything......

And when we say government, who exactly is responsible to get the cleanup done....don't they have names, don't they have addresses....

We just keep channeling our anger in the wrong direction.....if there are elders chopping the money...do the youth not know their addresses.......

We just all sit back and think someone somewhere will solve our problems for us...we need to take initiatives in the right direction
our senators are fools..

But don't you think it would be much easier putting pressure or fighting the leadership closer to home than the federal govt....

Its just a Nigerian problem, the federal govt cannot be chasing every body....and even the few times they do using EFCC and ICPC.....the same people will come and shout that they are persecuting their son, that they should allow the guy chop....so which way forward

I have been reading about oil spillage in books and internet with disinclination until I travelled to Emago Kugbo and its environs and I spent hours in the sea and other riverine communities in Abua LGA of rivers state and now, each time I retrospect my experience I feel like crying and cursing our leaders. These people are in a terrible condition which I lack words to describe. Oil spillage is a serious situation that deserves emergency response.
Curse leaders? How about militants who blow up pipelines?
Re: Photos Of Oil Spillage In Niger Delta Communities by Nobody: 7:58pm On Aug 23, 2017
This is what we suffer in Niger-Delta....fishing and farming use to be our occupation but no land or water to farm or fish. Then you hear some cow dung eating dumbie claiming oil is for everybody...its our collective resources. But when you farm and sell your tomatoes and pocket all the money its yours.
May it never be well with Nigeria rulers.

if you check or make research to how hydrocarbons are formed there would be no reason to doubt.it is a process that is continuous as photosynthesis itself.
This will help

This country is very wicked.

Some people are even justifying the act, blaming the locals.

When did dis spillage start?

When did militancy start?

Oil companies are built, and securities operatives guard the facilities 24/7 to prevent any form of harm.

Pipelines are built , but no one is there to protect it.

U drill oil, u refuse to develop the gist communities , u refuse to give the alternatives to oil.

And when their youths rise up in arms, u label them insurgents.

And people are cool with it?

Oil Spillage has become the sad reality of the Delta today. From the Western end of Ondo to the Eastern end of Akwa Ibom, oil spillage is a recurrent decimal.

In itself, oil spillage is not the problem because it can be cleaned and it is not unique to Nigeria. The problem, however, is the government's lack of interest in the plight of the poor fishermen and riverine dwellers of the Delta who have to face the reality of black oil on their land and waters. The oil companies pay little to no interest to these spills and even when monies are disbursed for cleanup, they end up on the stomach of the so-called Niger Delta leaders.

What about the militants that claim to fight for the rights of the people by blowing up pipes (and by extension causing more spillages)? Many of them have been bought off by the FG. The amount of money the FG spends to feed the ex-militants in a month is enough to clean up a large section of the oil spills in Urhobo/Isokoland. What are the militants doing about it now that their purses are full?

The blame for these spills goes to each and every one of us. To the government, for its negligence and blatant disregard for the welfare of its citizens who have to suffer the bitter taste of black crude, spilt over their water and land. To the Niger Delta leaders who eat the little money that may be used to satiate the plights of the jobless fishermen, farmers, and riverine dwellers who have nowhere to go. To the militants and agitators who use a genuine cause to enrich themselves at the detriment of the people they swore to fight for. To the average Nigerian who turns away from sordid images such as the ones on this thread; who rather pretends not to know what their fellow citizens are facing every day.

The Niger Delta is a mistreated and wealthy bride of Nigeria. She may not know her true worth now or have good leaders and agitators, but a day will come when the bride shall say enough is enough. When that day comes, Nigeria will stand still and see the evil its leaders and the oil companies have done against a once arable and ecologically rich region. No one, not even our closest neighbours, can help us. We alone have to break free of the chains we have allowed ourselves to be entrapped in.

One of the best post I've ever read on nairaland. The people I pity are the old and illiterate farmers, fishermen, and villagers who feel powerless against these powerful forces.
Bp was made to pay $54bn when there was oil spillage in the US. . But if it was Nigeria, our so called national and local leaders will go and beg d oil coys for $2mil and share it amongst themselves.

Jeez. These pictures are really graphic.

SS people are really suffering.

If this happens in SE, believe me. It's impossible for Nigeria to still be existing in this Parasitic way.

Niger Delta people need serious compensation.

Common marginalization alone (which all regions are victim of) we are threatening the unity let alone when the land are in a complete mess like this.

This is repulsive

What's the reason for blowing up pipelines? Is it not because of negligence of oil producing communities who suffer due to oil exploration activities in their domains? Have you traced the origin of oil spillage? Did it originated from oil exploration or pipeline bombing?
