It’s A Woman. It Must Be A Woman. by preshwrites(op): 10:41am On Aug 24, 2017
And everywhere I go, it keeps ringing like a bell in my ears. I dare to call it a norm. A mere belief which must have emanated from someone somewhere, all of a sudden gets into the air without being questioned and is generally acceptable. Women themselves do not put up a fight to defend the female gender when such is said about them. I keep wondering if all men are perfect in the act. Well, I beg to differ. The mention of those statements: “It’s a woman. It must be a woman” gets me irritated. Am always against anyone who makes that comment and with my humble but detailed defense with cited examples and rhetorical questions, I would stop at nothing but leave my “co-debaters” defeated and make them rest their case. It’s high time we stopped referring to women as weaklings!

The uncultured ones among them go as far as uttering rude words like: “Stupid Woman, Get out of the way. If you don’t know how to drive, park!” Have you had a 1 second thought, what if she were to be your mum, wife or sister? Will you address her the same way? Am in a car and sometimes, the driver attributes any wrong driving to a woman. In response to that, I tease and stylishly add: “You never can just conclude. What if it’s a man, what happens?” Afterwards, you see him grow cold and speechless throughout the ride when we finally discover it’s a man. Granted, women could make mistakes while driving but then the idea that they are always mentioned for that purpose is wrong and unfair. No one is perfect, not even the guys.

I ask: “Have you not seen male drivers who drive recklessly?” “Have you not noticed male drivers breaking road signs?” “Do you claim not to have witnessed male drivers disobeying traffic lights?

Have you ever been driven by a woman before and after the ride, you had a sincere urge to tip her, commend her, peck her, tell her how wonderful she was at it, even own up to the fact that she drives better than you (if a male), pointing out her mastery and carefulness which prompted your nerves to be relaxed to the verge of your dozing off? Am sure you’re nodding your head in agreement, reading this.

Now, let me get down to this. It’s understandable if it’s said that some or most women are clueless once their car breaks down on the road or another bashes their husband-given expensive ride. That particular spot becomes their last bus stop. They simply call their husbands to come pick them or yell at the defaulter. Of course, what would she have done on the contrary? They have and express much confidence in their husbands’ capabilities and saving power. You know the Jackie-Chang kind of expectation, that home-appliance-repairer kind of expectation. Same goes for when policemen or road safety marshals tend to stop and delay them. As a husband, you must live up to it.

In all, the point is that blame should be accorded to anyone who is at fault, regardless of gender. No assumptions and reservations as to who would have done or not done that mistake. Everyone is prone to mistakes, male and female alike. No one is perfect. Afterall, what a man can do, sometimes, a woman can do even better. So, driving is not an exception. Meanwhile, let all strive to be good citizens, obey traffic lights, adhere to road signs and be at our best in all endeavours. It’s for our good and safety. Also, do not drink, smoke, chat, and make/pick calls while driving. Drive as if your family were in the other vehicle. Ensure your vehicle is in good working condition before starting the engine to move out. Have your papers complete and up-to-date to avoid embarrassment. Be security-conscious.

God bless you for reading. What’s your take on this? Your voice is important.

When you see a nice saloon car passing one way and cutting corners unexpectedly with disregard for public safety, your first thought will be nah uniform man but you are wrong nah woman.

When you see suv challenging you rather than give you way, you actually think it belongs to a diplomat look again nah woman

When you see that nice truck cutting lanes with disregard for toppling over and you scared it nearly rammed you from the back, catch up with the driver and yes you guessed right, nah woman.

Every driver who learns how to drive must also learn discipline, the percentage of women who know how to drive without discipline is on the increase reason for the term NAH WOMAN.

I am waiting for the feminist to come and challenge I the manist grin

I think women are more careful while driving, which can be seen as clumsy by speed lovers like most Nigerian drivers who just want you out of the way. Hence the saying na woman.

Is it women driving Dangote trucks and PMT?
Onisokuso, let me hear pim from you again.

From experience riding a motorbike in Lagos you would expect the biggest automobile hazard to be your friendly neighbourhood Yellow (or white on the Islands) Danfo?......NO!
The half crazed King of the road container trucks, fuel tankers and goods trailers?......Mba!
Other death wish Okadas doing speeds in excess of 80km/h in their flip flops and baseball caps?........Not at ALL!

I go to sleep when I encounter any of the above as most times they yield to bikers and actually wave you on in tight-ish traffic.

Not so for the SUV driving, mobile phone in one hand and make-up kit in the other soccer mum on her way doing school runs or Owambe party bound! undecided undecided
These I avoid with a very wide berth.
They have no issues at all squeezing you up against the metal barriers or popping you into the gutter if you as much as stray into their space.

A word is enough for the wise grin

Women are good drivers but men will always be better drivers, I am not bashing women or been a tr**p, but when something extraordinary happens on the road or about to happen, woman is behind the wheels even worse when they are two and gossiping without noticing what's happening around them, had an encounter with woman driver on Tuesday and Wednesday and funny enough the first individual in my car to say nah woman was actually a female at both instances grin

Driving is a skill, it's not an intrinsic quality of any gender.

All the times I have been bashed, were by men _ the better drivers. Just one woman has endangered me with her driving, same way I have probably endangered people too.

I am sure all the men I have endangered will forget all the males that were behind extraordinary happenings and focus on the one I did. It buttresses their na woman maxim, not that women are the most reckless drivers _never. Lots of women don't even have that mind, those ones that hold their steering like their lives depends on it.

Men get into more accidents than women, and it has nothing to with the fact that there are more male drivers. Rather there are as much or far more reckless male drivers.

If it wasn't a woman, I am sure they'll come up with a modified version _ e dey drive like woman undecided.

You should refrain from joining the league of men who use that word during a discourse.

"Nah woman" , I think arises from the frustrations that impatient and reckless drivers face when trying to cut corners.
Women are less likely to squeeze through that ultratight space that will enable one evade traffic jam but will rather wait (and rightly so).
Women are less likely to allow that shuttle bus that broke the queue and is hanging precariously at the edge of the gutter or driving against traffic to cut infront of them and get back on the line. This equates to traffic jam and blame of course goes to woman.
They are less likely to speed up and beat the traffic light before it goes red making you wait. (Inside you are already saying "if no be woman both of us for don cross) Unfortunately you know she is right by slowing down.
And yes they have less reservations about tipping that over manoeuvring keke or bike into the gutter, after all, it is not a bendy contest, you should have waited.

Definitely there are exceptions. Some women (just like some men) are outrightly reckless and even bully danfo drivers and those are the ones that receive "hailing".
