Some people are 2faced, in certain days their post are eccentric, on other days quiet embarrassing and on other days, a professional approach is attached to their posts..........

we do not have a proper system in place for dealing with mental health issues in this country. you have no way of knowing if the person in question has actually recovered.

a workshop provides multiple opportunities to kill oneself if one so wishes

in nigeria, a death on your premises has the potential to become a very very big nightmare

first off is the men in black - who can take up to 300k for [fill in blank]

then there is the victims family ; who may claim you used their son for jazz, or who may be looking for a quick payout

then there is LASG and the numerous agencies who will suddenly start whipping out regulations and fines [do your staff have insurance, do you have workmen's compensation, are you certified by so and so board, does the victim have guild cert, is his salary in line with minimum wage, etc]

of course, i am talking from a corporate perspective [we had a death on a project site and the shit storm ran into the 00 millions;]

if for any reason the person slips back into depression and takes his life in your workshop - or even if he is in your employ and takes his life, you are facing a lot of potential issues

At the end of the program, we might as well read from the party that this program saved his life by giving him a purpose and direction.

unfortunately, without a medical diagnosis, one does not even know why the person in question is suicidal. is it academia, family issues, romance?

having a good life/ source of income/job is in no way a shield for being depressed or suicidal.

or that guy who jumped off third mainland bridge.

psychology/psychiatry is not a true science, so there are no really any firm pointers to situations / circumstances that cause depression. two people from similar backgrounds can face the exact same situation and react\respond differently

sometimes i see contractors on site with underage kids working for them - the issue is usually that they are trying within the avenues open to them, to help these kids, but it is also dangerous.

dangerous for me and the vendor [if someone from HQ happens to come to the site , the next thing is reports pictures, warnings etc etc]
dangerous if there is an incident ; because no documentation can justify a minor on a site.
the desire to help or assist must also be tempered with pragmatism

i would say you are also assuming his depression is due to being unemployed.

without a diagnosis from a professional, we cant say for sure

also, job opportunities help keep kids out of crime, but i'm not so sure they do that much for mental health.
