Is it not an indictment on the federal govt that they continue releasing state allocations and bail out funds to governors who do not put to effective use of the monies, why will a state in Nigeria continue owning salaries with so much funds at their disposal, and this will continue for Eight good years yet this charlatans claim to be fighting corruption.

Kogi has a salary bill of 2.5b+ monthly. Can u do d deductions from d total sum n now discuss how what is left would achieve any development?

with this information, why are people still shouting resource control? is it that some people are too greedy that they want every thing for themselves?

BeautifulSE

your initial post which I think was deleted by the mods is actual misleading

the main reason for the agitation for rep of Biafra is not about wealth but where every citizens will have equal right and opportunities unlike what is obtainable in Nigeria of today

in recruitment exercise hausa Fulani with their low grade would be preferred for the job...nepotism and favouritism

Fulani herds men are brandishing knives and Ak47 all over the palaces as if that is not enough, raping and killing with impunity and no one dare say anything
.

is that the type of country one should be proud of.

Aregbe was eating more than he could chew.

Building roads that lead to no where to line his pockets. Giving contracts to his relatives like tablet computers for secondary schools.
You only need to see the waec results of these pupils to know it was a failed project.

Now the banks deduct from the state allocation to service the debts.

Where is the nonsense you just mentioned done in the world, or you want to use Nigeria as a Guinea pig? The money you just saw can as well be invested with its proceed paid to the states as IGR, they dont need to give the FG a kobo, so why are they not taking that route?

I wish nairaland shows the true age of its posters.

Before Gowon tampered with Nigeria's economic system, the governor of every region controlled the natural resources @ it's disposal n paid back 30% to FG n kept 70% to run their regions.

This system is used by America, Spain, England, etc. Every reasonable nation wit humans within actually run such a system.

If you commercialize Onne port, what will the oil and gas industry use? port duty is collected by the FG not Lagos state government.
maybe you don't really know why cross river, rivers and delta ports are inland waterways hub.

lmfao, why do yorubas either refuse to reason or believe others are stupidd².

U are the one that does not know that Onne Port was converted to a naval base by obasanjos regime.

So the oil n gas industry is not a commercial sector

""maybe you don't really know why cross river, rivers and delta ports are inland waterways hub"" - are u sure that ur well

GEJ should have done that.
or he deliberately left it so that you can be using it as an excuse for your underdevelopment instead of blaming your governors.

GEJ dis what he felt was right in terms of appeasing certain parts of the country to improve his chances of winning the 2015 election.

The more proper questions are - why was more than 2 ports in the SS closed in the first place.

Who closed those sea ports

So converted one of the sea ports to a naval base

This is actually very small to run a state

Imagine my state imo with over 3million people with 17bn in 6 months ??

If every individual is taxed 5k a month that's 15bn every month and with that we will get our desired development and we will have reason to hold our governors accountable

But no we decide to spend far more to achieve nothing

A typical car owner in Nigeria will spend 400k a years averagely to maintain his cars

But as him to pay a tax of 10k a month for road maintaince that will save his car he will protest

We have over 11 million cars in Nigeria ...if on average each pays 10k every month that's 110bm that's over 1.2 trillion on road maintaince

Say federal government takes 30% and states 70% of what you contribute tell me why we would have bad roads
we would still have bad roads my friend because someone somewhere would swallow like 70% of the money. no be 9ja again??

you can use this to assess the performance of your state Governor.
Governors should be rated base on the resources avalaible, and how well they have applied the income to better the lives of their people. Because there are Governors with lower allocations that are performing very well but because they are not building flyovers and bridges, sadly nobody talks about them.
i belive with this nigerian youth will know that our dear president is performing his duty approprately with the law of our country.

As a car owner you pay for tax yearly it is called vehicle licencing same as rd tax . You are also taxed in form of road worthyness . .you are taxed for proof of ownership . .u are taxed for tint in your car . U want me to go on??

How can Bayelse with just 8 local governments and a poplulation of 1.7million people owe salaries and remain grossly underdeveloped despite earning more than states with 6 times its size and population?

Our problem as a nation is definitely not due to lack of resources, but corruption and bad leadership. Trust me, this will not go away even if Nigeria is splitted to different entities. It won't also go away by replacing the old crop of leaders with younger ones as the youths are as bad as it comes.

Is there a solution? There is no solution, at least not in this generation. We are bad, cruel, desperate and very corrupt inside out. There is no hope for Nigeria.

Its just disappointing and sad, we are just too selfish and greedy. I am beginning to also align with your submission that there seems to be no hope in sight for this country.

Am not Igbo but I envy the last three Governors of Anambra State ( they are JEWS). GOD BLESS NGIGE, PETER OBI AND OBIANO.

Obiano has been a bit disappointing compared to the other two.
I'm actually sceptical if he can retain his seat at the rate things are going no thanks to IPOB.

going by your logic,no state is developed in Nigeria.
we are talking of relative development!,compare osun towns and the capital city before aregbesola to their present states.

A non partisan native of osun state, which i'm,will appreciate what aregbe has done and that actually earned him second term .I agree that he fvcked up. on salary issues! in his second term!

What do you mean?

What is the wage bill of Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa and many others with very high allocation?

Keep looking for excuse for failure of those states.
what is the budget for akwaibom? The 2017 budget? Now check the total outcome of the first 'mnths then minus it by the volume of the budget.
