Another strange name I have encountered in Oshimili (Delta State) is Njokanma -Evil is Better. I am also hoping this one too has a deeper meaning that eludes me.

One of my seniors in DELSU back then answers this name. It was a rare Igbo name so I asked him one day and he told me the meaning. The irony is that he is a Jehovah's Witness member.

I wonder why parents give children names like this.

Tabansi is an Igbo name that literarily means Keep Eating Sh!t. But maybe it has a deeper meaning that isn't apparent to me.
It's more like "keep eating the sacrifices" "Nsi" here means, Sacrifice and not 'Nsi' (Shit) where the stress is much on the consonant, 's'.

Efewestern and Fratermathy
Urhobo people tend to bear very funny names whether the name is in English or Urhobo.
I've heard names like, 'America', 'Manager', etc
Very hilarious.

Also, some old Igbo female names in my region can be funny.

Like "Uzoaru", (the road to Aro)... ARO was revered as the spiritual capital of some Igbos.
Some tend to encourage gold digging.. the women takes pride in their future husband's wealth. May be thats why their men are forced to hustle.

Names like, "Oriaku(Diya/jiya)" (One who consumes her husband's wealth)
"Oyidiya" (One who resembles/matches/looks like her husband"wink or some modify it to "Oyiri"

"Ugbalu" or "Ogbenyealu" depending on the dialect (one who can't be married to the poor).

True that! I used to think those comedians were being comical with their narrations but in truth, their narrations just explains a normal day in the life of an average Urhobo person. I saw it first hand. Funny lots.

If we are talking about the worst type of English names, turn your eyes towards Ijaw. Ijaw people dey answer anything, I swear. Urhobo funny English name dey learn for Ijaw one.

You see Ijaws answering names like Pepper, Pepple, Goldwater, Heneiken, Wine, etc. These are not even their native names yet o!

Urhobos by far dwarf the Ijaws in funny native names though.

There is also one funny Igbo name I came across one time but I don't know if I remember it correctly:

Azubuike (back is front?). Am I right?

Azubuike means, "Strength lies in the back" more like an anatomical explaination. I don't know if there is a deeper meaning to it though.

Most of the names are as a result of contact with the British, they Anglicized most of our names to what they are.
