All these one-business owners will soon invade this thread to heap abusive words on the Op.

Everyone should be able to decide what they want for their life. Whether you are an employee or employer, your fulfillment is the only thing that counts.

Lots of employees are earning better than the so called
entrepreneurs
.

Most investors in Mutual funds, Stocks and Pensions are employees.

You made some valid points but then Entrepreneurship isn't just about being rich or having time. Paid jobs can give you those but the major difference is control. Control over your life, your future, your family etc

Some people just feel its too risky leaving their destiny in the hands of another man. You know with just two words, you can easily become jobless and start all over again. Very risky I must say
That lack of control is the problem. Whether you like it or not someone must be controlling you your customers, suppliers, creditors, banks your family , your ambition etc. Everyone have a manager

The truth is everyone cannot be a Dangote or a Zuckerberg or a Bill Gate, so stick to what works for you and you will be fulfilled.
That's the one problem with most of you guys

Once you hear the word entrepreneurship, next thing, you start thinking about Dangote, Zuckerberg and Bill Gates...

Listen

You don't have to be a BIG business owner

You just have to be a business owner
Re: Why You Should Be An Employee by PAINTPLUS: 8:55am On Sep 01, 2017
Like OP said.....it is not a counter thread.
Read his foremost and concluding sentences.

You can be an employee of a blue chip company and have a great business running by the side. Infact most employees of top-notch jobs have some businesses and investments which they funded from the salaries.

These same guys though on paper do an 8-5 job but really don't do 8-5. Some determine their work hours.

Lastly, let everyone do what he/she gets fulfillment in..it is not a crime and you don't need to be confrontational or humiliating because someone else doesn't like what you like.

@ Op You gave us 6 reasons to be an employee but Dangote will give you more than 50 reasons to be an employer. It's the best to be an employer.

The thread is not about employee vs employer. Read the first and concluding statement. Then you fall back on your investments. Point 6. If your own business gets liquidated, what will you fall back on?
You can be an employee and a big time investor.

Despite the recent surge of articles on why you should be an entreprenuer, be your own boss, and all that...which is actually fine by some people, this write up is not to counter such articles but balance our lines of thought and consider some reasons why you just may prefer to be an employee.

1. Not every one is cut out for entreprenuership....Some people just love the 8-5, 30-days-make-a-pay lifestyle.

2. It is not a crime to be an employee. Some people just aspire to be a manager or a director in a blue chip company....I know of someone who rose from the bottom in UAC to the topmost position.

3. Employees get immense benefits e.g health scheme for you and your family, retirement pay, periodic local and foreign trainings/conferences, paid vacations...these are some great stuffs you may not afford yourself. Companies that offer these exists and you will love to work for them.

4. Less concern with the various governemtal agencies who keep knocking on you door for compliance/payment/regulation etc

5. Being an entreprenuer is not a guarantee that you will be rich or have all the time in the world. There are entreprenuers who, day in day out, do LOTS OF LOW PAY CHEQUE JOBS and never have the time or money.

6. Earn lots of money and invest for your old age.

Don't just save up money and jump into the sea of "being your own boss" without guidance. There are many sharks out there, so dont bleed.
Pls everyone should learn to run simple business.

Having a restaurant business, piggery business, cow fattening business, transportation business is not a rocket science.

Only few folks will get to earn lots of money in their lifetime via salaries and get to be a director or MD.

You can only work for 35 years in most private coys then you get kicked out.

Then you will face the business world unprepared at an old age.

Just try and have a small scale business running while being an employee. It will prepare you for greater challenges.

Myopic rant. Am sorry if you are offended but business men of yesterday preached this your rubbish to the rest of the Nigerians who were salary earners.
Do you know that the problem of the government is looking for jobs for people. If a 10th of Nigerians open up their own businesses, there will not just be jobs but;
1. Peace
2. Security
3. Knowledge and with knowledge
4. Better polity
5. Better Governance
6. Less ritual killings
7. The list can go on.

Please do not post clueless nonsense on nairaland because you woke up and felt like it.
The US is filled with Small and Medium Scale businesses which the American government protects unconditionally and unquestionable even while seeming to be stern with them.

Setting up a business in Nigeria exposes you to fraudulent government officials while in the US you start to get tax rebates even of domestic and personal purchases.

Guy/Babe please go and educate yourself first before writing nonsense.

In fact if you have a salary job, you should do something on the side as a business.

I can go on and on.

Respect

I'm an advocate of entrepreneurship, that however doesn't mean everyone should be entrepreneurs. In fact, before you become an entrepreneur, you have to first be an employee if you really aspire to attain the pinnacle. The training ground for entrepreneurs is only found within the seat of an employee. The only problem I have is when you become an employee for the wrong reasons.

No 3. This is very wrong. This entitlement mentality is the reason why you will keep having money problems till you die. No one owns you nothing.. Not even the government. The better you learn to take charge of your life is the moment you will experience real freedom.

No. 4. An entrepreneur who's financially educated pays little or nothing to taxes. If there's any one that pays ridiculous amounts, they are employees. I as an investor pays 1% tax out of my assets. I'm offered tax incentives by the government cause I help create jobs and houses. Employees pay almost 40% of their income as tax. I think Robert Kiyosaki made this more clear.

No. 6. No matter how high you're promoted, your responsibility will always try to catch up. Have you ever wonder why that money is never enough? This is what happens when you rely solely on your paycheck. Use your ssets to finance your liabilities.

If you're an employee because of fear, then you're an employee for the wrong reason.

The thread is not about employee vs employer. Read the first and concluding statement.

When you see some entitlements, you will fear God. Money problems are not money based but personal economy based. If you are a spend thrift, you will always be in want no matter how much or little you earn.

Point 4 it is not only about taxes and that 1percent falls in the likes of big company owners who spend some good money on what gives them tax breaks.

Point 6.money is never enough because of your personal money economics.

Good.

Inasmuch as being an entrepreneur is widely perceived as a path to wealth and financial stability, there is no guarantee on it.

It largely depends on personality, zeal, motivation, natural flair and passion.

Every Tom, Dick, and Harry must not be a doctor, politician, footballer, boxer to be wealthy.

Nature made us have unique differences. Hence, only through self discovery can one activate and manifest his/her potentials.
Thank you.

Well your advice isn't bad, but it will be good if you know this.....

No employee can ever live without fears, every mistake seems to be the end of his job. This is what happens when someone else is the player of your game..

Aspire to be an employer.

All may not be called to be an entrepreneur but with persistence and focus all can be transformed to an entrepreneur. Live is better this way.....

Unfortunately, this threard is about being an entrepreneur vs employee.. You don't need to see VS before you know what this thread is all about. I'm yet to make a sense from your mention. What were you trying to prove in point 4?

Saying money is never enough is Laughable.. To an employee, money is never enough cause he works for a paper fiat money that has no value except that placed on it. While entrepreneurs on the other hand doesn't work for money. Sometimes you guys likened a self employed to an entrepreneur. Please try and know the difference of both before quoting me next time.

Peace!

This is the very reason people fail in life.....NEVER DARING TO LEAVE THE COMFORT ZONE.

when you are looking for a job, you spend days preparing for interview, researching the company, opening multiple threads naira land on how to wow the interviewer

You lie about your ability, you scream..."I am a quick learner, motivated, educated, people person, I can do anything to add value to this company" all in a bid to be hired now to get fired someday

BUT when it comes to you applying yourself to practice what you told the interviewer, to benefit your own life, you suddenly lose steam, and drop dead like cold dodo. Don't worry, be chasing benefits, until you get to 46 and you get retrenched and replaced by the kids of tomorrow or summarily retired and declared useless by your employer...then you will remember how heeding to this thread ruined your life.

Stop making other people rich by breaking your back to advance their comfort. While you still have your paycheck every month open a side business, sell anything someone needs... create multiple income streams so you do not live your life, dreading that line, YOU ARE FIRED!

great points but you're obviously not talking about Nigeria. you're not in Nigeria, right?

the highest tax an individual pay is 18.96% in Nigeria. the cost of doing business in Nigeria is high and compliance is very cumbersome. despite, entrepreneurs are still making it in Nigeria.

I'll go with entrepreneurship anyday but not before being an employee. being an employee before entrepreneur helps you with - Knowledge, experience, capital and network. if you've not gotten those four keys don't venture out yet.

I don't think it's about being an employee or an employer, emphasis should be on being the best in what you do, whatever that is,...... Every employer will always need an employee, it is a natural order of life. Don't bulshit people wherever they fall in. I'm an employee and I'm proud to be.
