Living in calabar and ogun state has exposed me to a lot when it comes education....... the method of invigilation, screening and even teaching in Ogun state cant be compared in any way to calabar. A Third class brain in ogun state is a 2.1 brain in Imo..... quote me anywhere.

Don't even talk about calabar, that state is blessed with quality educational institutions

Waec is the worst criterion anyone can use. I am in the system, so I know.

Stop the blame game and admit that things are going wrong in the education sector in south west. That is the only way to salvage the situation.
Lagos still has the highest number of 'miracle centers' than any other state in Nigeria. No region is free from the menace.

This is not a blame game. It is a known fact that the SE is full of miracle centres where exam malpractices are carried out with abandon. If both of us are fasting and I find a way to sneak out and eat a large bowl of Akpu, I shouldn't be in a position to accuse you of being weak and tired at the end of fasting.

Shut up.
Miracle centers are everywhere. Have you been to lagos, ogun and oyo? These are the bastions of examination fraud.
Yorubas are known for any form of fraud and '' deceiving to obtain'' so you can expect they will dominate in examination fraud as well.

Why bring tribal sentiments here, we talking about dwindling " performance" in waec from sw region. Nobody mentioned SE here.
The OP didn't put it that way in his topic, he is talking about dwindling performance in SW education.

When we talk about the SW leading in terms of Education, they didn't say Yoruba's were leading in Performances they mean Yoruba's are leading in seeking Western Education which I still believe is still the case today even though the SE and SS are catching up.

As a matter of fact, Education in Nigeria is a mere farce. When you are rating students performances to justified State by State performances without fathom in Exam malpractices which had been on the increase of recent and even being encouraged by some States stakeholders to justify State's performance nationally is simply a complete error. Look at Universities competing on number of first class produced especially private universities, is that acceptable? Ask Engineering students from Esku or those in Sciences few years back to get good answer. Develop your people and forget about all these politics being played with Nigeria Education Sector

The southwest were once the top in education but as at today, the Igbos are the most educated in Nigeria. From statistics by Waec, Neco to NBS education statistics. Latest report by the NBS shows that Imo state is the most educated state in Nigeria. Delta and Anambra follows.

I thought of this a few weeks ago. The SE has overtaken the SW, education-wise. While I commend Aregbesola on his construction of school buildings, I think more emphasis should be laid on how to review the education policies in the SW. Constructing school buildings without adequate policies is like having a beautiful laptop with an obsolete OS.

....keep deceiving yourself....the A to Z of the story is about the states cheating most....the write-up said nothing about quality of teachers and their training, study and examination techniques used, after- school support, available facilities etc......so the so- called most marginalized zone is producing WAEC miracles out of nothing?....,surely u Igbos are a confused lot as always....
The article was written by yoruba writers in the Premium Times online newspaper. A yoruba dominated news media.
When it comes to cheating, it is difficult to believe that the region that created yahoo yahoo, yahoo plus and badoo will be second best to other regions.

it's really unfortunate that my comment won't reach FP. for unbiased people that have served or presently serving at those states that topped the list will agree with me that education in the real sense of it in those states is in shambles. for example edo state that I am very sure of, have a very poor student to teacher ratio. u can imagine a whole secondary with just two teacher, principal inclusive. (many thanks to Npower and NYSC and poorly paid community teachers). even at that examination malpractice is at its peak in those states. take it or leave, I served there and I know how everything went then. It's so unfortunate that every stakeholder that has to do with the examination are corrupt including waec officials in the said state. Now to south-west :it's not that south-west is a saint when it comes to examination malpractice, but not any where near that of south-east/south.if you doubt this, ask any unbiased mind that have been to those states on education mission. let me drop my pen here.

What is the essence of performing well in WAEC and not going for further education into the University and just diverting into trade just like many people do in the SE.

University Education is the most important form of Formal education and that is the criteria we should be looking at here not basic secondary education.
You are wrong. Secondary education is the most important. Without it you can not go further in terms of formal education and jobs. It is the foundation.

The A to Z of this write up, being backed up by this excerpt quoted, has proven that APC governments have nothing to offer on Education.

PDP governments know the value of Education and relatively trying more than its political counterpart.
What concerns PDP and APC in this matter for crying out loud. If you want to comment please do devoid of any political sentiment .
The question is where do we get it wrong in the southwest?

My dear, check the number of candidates from the regions gaining admission into the universities and those graduating top of their classes, you'll find out that southeast is on the top even in universities located in the north and south west. Isn't that enough indicator of the superiority of the southeast in academic pursuit

Imo state is by far the most literate state in Nigeria and also with the highest number of professors.

Where we have got it wrong is that "APC governors of South West don't value education and do not respect the sector".

So obvious the PDP governed states were/are doing better than them.

This is also an under-stated fact.
Most if not all Universities in Nigeria has significant numbers of Igbos. After the ethnic indigenes of those schools, igbo sub-groups usually make the second largest group of students virtually in most universities in Nigeria.
