It happens like that but it's not that good. Immediately you woke up from the terrible dream you will remember everything but when you slept again and woke up in the morning you can't remember anything about the dream.

I will advise you take your phone and write down some of the key point in the dream immediately you woke up from the dream. I guess with this you will be able to remember back.

That question has a scientific answer, which will require you to read a little about monoamine oxidase and its effects on memory.

If one take monoamine oxidase inhibitors, would it make one able to remember dreams?
Re: Why Do Memories Of Vivid Dreams Disappear Soon After Waking Up? by FitnessDoctor: 10:16am On Sep 04, 2017
According to scientificamerican.com

WE FORGET almost all dreams soon after waking up. Our forgetfulness is generally attributed to neuro-chemical conditions in the brain that occur during REM sleep, a phase of sleep characterized by rapid eye movements and dreaming.

Infact, for the first few seconds you wake up from sleep, you would not know who you are or where you are.

Here is what WEBMD has to say

Also, it may be harder to remember dreams because during REM sleep our body may shut down systems in our brain responsible for creating memories. We may only remember dreams that occur just before we wake, when certain brain activities have been turned back on.

If you like the dream, just go back to the same sleeping position before waking up and the dream will continue from where it stopped.
If you don't like the dream, change your sleeping position and you will forget it.
Try it, it works.

Our forgetfulness is generally attributed to neurochemical conditions in the brain that occur during REM sleep, a phase of sleep characterized by rapid eye movements and dreaming. But that may not be the whole story.
Perhaps the most compelling explanation is the absence of the hormone norepinephrine in the cerebral cortex, a brain region that plays a key role in memory, thought, language andconsciousness. A study published in 2002 in theAmerican Journal of Psychiatrysupports the theory that the presence of norepinephrine enhances memory in humans, although its role in learning and recall remains controversial.
A lack of norepinephrine, however, does not completely explain why we forget dreams so easily. Recent research suggests that dreaming lies on a continuum with other formsof mental functioning, which are all characterized by activity in the cerebral cortex. On the one side of this continuum is concentrated, focused thought; dreaming and mind wandering lie on the other, with some overlap among the types. The dreaming/reverie end involves some of the most creative and “far out” material. This type of less consciously directed thinking, however, is not easy to remember. Can you recall where your mind wandered while you were brushing your teeth this morning? In general, we are very good at forgetting nonessentials. In fact, many of our thoughts, not just those we have while dreaming, are lost. We tend to recall only things that we think about often or that have emotional significance—a problem, a date, a meeting. Mulling over important thoughts activates our dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), a brain region thatfacilitates memory.Although most dreams vanish, certain ones tend to remain. These dreams were so beautiful or bizarre, they captured our attention and increased activity in our DLPFC. Thus, the moreimpressive your dream or thought, the more likely you are to remember it.

It depends on the dream o. If you dream of hitting a one million dollar jackpot, you won't forget.

You would even want to go back to sleep to have the season 2 of the dream like This.

Without knowing more about you, here are some common reasons this happens:

1. You sleep deeply and well; specifically, your waking time is right on schedule with your sleep cycles. Sleep cycles are roughly 90 minutes long (though they tend to progressively get shorter each cycle through the night, while REM stage gets longer) and for the best sleep you want to wake up at the end of one of those cycles. Often we remember our dreams when we wake up right in the middle of them. If you consistently wake after a full cycle, you won't wake up mid-dream, your body naturally rouses you out of REM before waking all the way up.

2. Contrary to #1, you are NOT sleeping well. You might not be getting full sleep cycles in through the night, which are necessary in order to reach the REM (dreaming) stage of sleep. This can happen because of sleep disruptions like noises, lights, pets or disruptive partners in the bed, uncomfortable bed or body, drinking alcohol or caffeine, or medical issues like sleep apnea, acid reflux, or others.

3. Your dream content may not be terribly remarkable. Sometimes our dreams are of completely mundane things, like going to work, walking the dog, making dinner, ridig the subway. This can make them harder to remember because, well, they’re not memorable!

4. Opposite of 3, the dreams you have are so stressful your brain wants to forget them immediately.

5. You wake up and immediately have tasks to do. Maybe you need to rush to get ready for work, maybe you have a baby or other little ones that need checking on (or are waking you up), maybe you have to catch a bus, or make a meeting, or get to the gym. When we have to get started right away on the morning (even mentally) our brain quickly and efficiently pushes our dreams out of our minds. A trick for remembering your dreams is doing the opposite: when you wake up, even as soon as you realize you're waking up, don't move, don't think, don't do anything…just try to feel what you were just dreaming about.

6. You are not very aware of your own subconscious ongoings in general. You do not meditate, or do much reflecting on your underlying motivations and feelings, or otherwise checking in with yourself. Some religions and mystic traditions might say you are disconnected from your spiritual side or from God, etc. If you have a tradition you follow or are interested in, connect with that.

7. You do not make it your conscious intention to remember your dreams. Try stating this intention in writing or out loud before bed.

8. When you do remember your dreams (which you might, actually, for a few fleeting seconds upon waking), you do not spend any time recognizing them or thinking about them or recording them. This is related to #5 above. The next time you remember any details of any possible dream, even just a tiny hint of a feeling left over from a dream, write it down. The more you acknowledge what little you do remember, the more you begin to remember! It somehow works.

Some people say it's a bad omen or something. Dreams are also avenues for the most high to communicate plans or intending plans to believers who reference Him and when you wake up forgetting a dream, it means your village people have wiped out details you can work or act upon, either for good or bad
