Bamibor:

Just as a footnote by the way, I am neither a member nor an exco of the United Labour Congress but simply a Nigerian who believes that a lot of things need to change beginning with the clear ineptitude in leadership that has bedevilled the country for many years.

Nah, you are a Nigerian who rejoices at the sound of bad news and hopes that it will cripple the country.

That the government refuses to recognize the United Labour Congress for reasons best known to it speaks clearly of hypocrisy from a party in power

You claim you have no interest to protect yet you condemn the govt for not recognizing a rogue union! Are you serious? So if NLC has 3 factions due to internal democracy, govt should recognize all of them? So when its time for negotiations concerning this strike, govt should negotiate with who? My friend, you don't know neither do you have an idea of what you are saying. The courts are there to settle any group of people that feel aggrieved, honestly, its not the problem nor concern of govt. Joe Ajero should have taken his opponent to court if he felt aggrieved; thats what everyone does, governors, senators etc. But what did he do? He went rogue and formed his own union. Now you want the govt to recognize its own fraction against the registered NLC?

Na waoh. no need to comment here again. I even thought you had tangible facts to present.

Your own case is pathetic because you fail to get the msg. All your aim is to tarnish the image of the government so even if it takes burning down the entire country to achieve that, it is okk by you. The bolded line in your statement sold you out, so theres no need engaging you any further.

Which yeye message from a bloodsucking saibabaists who threatened brute force on Nigerians cos they intend to go on strike.

The bolded you referred to is a statement of fact that's audible to the deaf and visible to the blind.

You have the liberty to think whatever you will of me. Perception and perspective are free to own.
Whether you admit it or not, the country is currently not moving in the right direction and while industrial actions have their own unwanted cosequencies, the present government has proven not to be very good at dialogue and diplomacy.

The different micro-unions (NUPENG, NEEA etc) under the supposedly illegal United Labour Congress, each has the power to call its members to embark on strike and the different leaders of these unions have been quoted as calling on their members to stay away from work. So the claims by the government as to the illegality of the proposed strike may likely turn to be ill-advised.
I definitely do not believe embarking on strikes is the best way to solve Nigeria's problems but when those in power do not show any willingness to do the right things, we can't blame workers for going the hard way.
Nigeria's problems apparently did not start with the current administration but they have not shown any signs of a positive change, the best we have gotten from them are myraids of propaganda and lip-service.

I say it again, Nigeria is in dire need of leaders, detribalized, egalitarian and progressive leaders.

Yes, that's one of the reasons stated. Other reasons they gave include the review of minimum wage, payment of staff salary arrears across the nation, the deplorable state of roads etc.

It's called KARMA.

If APC loses the election in 2019, they can repeat what they did in 2011-2015 when they supported any anti-government initiative.

Perhaps it's high time we considered people running as independents, unshackled by the many short-comings of the current political parties we have.
I'll look up what the Nigerian constitution says about that. Partisan politics, with its attendant prejudice, is doing Nigeria no good at the moment

Since all Buhari understands is violence, he should declare operation zombie jump on NLC.

Its already bad to have an illiterate & archive man as president. Its a tragedy when he is also a tribal bigot and religious extremist.

Who would vote independents?

Nigeria's democracy is not advanced mate.

Even in the US, an independent candidate would almost certainly not win candidates from the big two parties.

Same case in Nigeria, the folks sponsoring the independent candidate would have their own agenda. And nothing stops the independent candidate from joining or creating a party after clinching the position.

We need to revamp our electoral law no doubt, but we need to have a rethink of the party system. Parties should be based on ideologies. Unfortunately, that is not the case in Nigeria. The ease with which candidates can cross-carpet between parties while retaining the same convictions is appalling.

Independent candidates would not solve this, but there's no harming in trying anyway.
