So he should wait till the building start killing people,I can't understand why people keep complaining about everything
The building looks very old and dangerous, all they need to do is to fight for compensation

1976..thats about 40yrs ago..the building definitely needed remodeling even without Okorocha saying it. I sincerely hope more time was given, though.

This Gov has become a curse to his own people. Why does power intoxicate this much?

I understand Rochas isn't the best thing to happen to a people but looking at the structure closely, one could tell it is dilapitated and beyond fixing. It is always better to take structures as this down rather than ask the owner to patch it and thereafter kill people and then blame the government afterwards.

The building is beyond dangerous.

Despite the fact that I no support okorocha but the house needs renovation tru tru

Exactly. That house supposed not to build allowed to stay no matter who owns it. The governor is doing the right thing because the same public will accuse him of not pulling the house down on time when it collapses and kills people.

Our people should just stop using any form of sentiments over issues like this by saying it belongs to a widow when the building stands as a time bomb waiting to explode.

Well in the US, that's regarded as a 3 storey building.

I believe over there(US) they count the ground floor as the first "story". Hence the 3 story building

An Instagram user, Ingrid Adaeze Okonta has called out governor Rochas Okorocha for allegedly destroying her grandmother’s building worth N60million.

She shared a photo of her grandma and the building and wrote;

My grandma Chief/Mrs. P.A Nwameme built this 3 story rental property with 18 first level storefronts in Mgbidi,IMO State in 1976. Governor Rochas and his evil contractors only gave her verbal notice to remodel the building to the standard of the new market. So my mother and her siblings decided to call from the U. S to look for a contractor who can remodel the three story building. The plan was when a suitable contractor was found, my mother and her siblings will all go to Nigeria in order to supervise the renovation. Before we knew it, my mother got a call from Nigeria that my grandmother’s three story building was bulldozed. Governor Rochas and his evil contractors never gave any time for a renovation. With no type of remorse he destroyed a 60million Naira worth building, with no compensation. This is illegal and shameful on the governor’s part. People live in that three story building and they have their businesses there. He has displaced so many people. My grandmother is a widow and this is one of her retirement incomes. This is so wrong on every level. They encourage Igbo people in diaspora to come back to Nigeria to develop but , yet they are destroying our property. It is very discouraging to want give back when your own people treat you like rubbish.”

My brother, his mother is not the only victim .The only shop my late father has in mgbidi,IMO state was also destroyed and the only thing the idoit okorogoat said was that if we want the renovated shop in that same area he will just subsidize the amount to 600000 naira. As the first son i just advice my mom to forget it .That man called okorogoat is really heartless and certainly will soon die from loneliness

The house was built in 1976.. That makes it 40 years old plus. And remember it's a commercial building meaning it's had more use than a private residence.

None of you have any information on the structural integrity of the building yet you are all cursing the Governor. The same you Guys will travel overseas and come and be telling us stories and sharing photographs of fine buildings you took pictures inside. Yet when you return here you will all run out with machetes to stop the Government from moving a Market away from the Center of town. angry

If that building collapses tomorrow, you people will start shouting how government is inefficient of how the dead people were used for election sacrifice.

The person that posted that nonsense and her family are in the United States.. If that building collapses and kills anybody, they will just lock up and not return to even help bury the dead.

Please some of you need to start using your brains more. Poverty is not an excuse to be foolish. angry
Don't be too quick to judge
There are worse older buildings compared to this littered everywhere, and if you read the write up you would understand there was already efforts to comply and renovate.thanks

Don't be too quick to judge? Did I judge?

Everyone else are the ones judging and castigating the Governor, I am the only one giving the benefit of doubt within reason.

Renovate isn't always the answer. Sometimes the building needs to be torn down and rebuilt.

Secondly, the person who reported claims and I quote "The plan was when a suitable contractor was found, my mother and her siblings will all go to Nigeria in order to supervise the renovation.".. Really?! Well, that ship has sailed now.. When they find the suitable contractor, they can start the re-construction.

Also, see the bold face lie that the author wrote saying they were not given formal notice so how did they know the Government wanted them to work on the property?

I am not holding brief for the Government, but I smell utter bullshit. They are hoping to get compensated with 60 Million Naira and no such compensation will be paid for a 40 year old building (especially when the Government is not reposessing the building).

Your name start with Mad so no need to insult you.
A house that is 41 years old, and still stands has integrity.
Read the whole thing, they were coming for renovation
Read another one, that house was a means of livelihood to people, not only the old woman
