LadyGuinivere, KaptainAfrika, OmoBendel24, Sebastine1606, judging someone outrightly is not fair just because he was denied Visa.

My wife and I applied and submitted Ds160 form in June. We intended to travel on 10th July and come back in August. We were to spend only 3 weeks. By first week of August, she would be only 7 months pregnant.

But, when we wanted to book appointment, we didn't even get date in June and July. We got August.

We went for interview. Before interview, we were advised never to talk about what we are not asked about.

VO asked us why we are going to the US, we told her we are going for vacation and Synod. She asked if we have kids, we said no. She asked if I have traveled before, I said yes. She asked if we traveled together that time, I said no.

We said the truth. I didn't know I should have told her that we are going for vacation and Synod, and that my wife is pregnant but we didn't intend to have our baby in the US. I didn't know we should have explained that. People told us that if you explain what you are not asked, they will see you as being too forward.

Now, a clergy, a member of our Diocese who has stayed in the US for 37 years is inviting me to a conference in his church. I will be speaking at the conference pro Bono.

My wife can't follow me because of the new born baby. The conference is only 7 days. I want to go for the Conference, but I can also decide not to go. It's not a do or die conference.

I have a life in Nigeria. I pastor a big congregation of an Anglican Church. I'm married with a kid. My wife is a student. And, you are telling me that I'm lying that I just want to relocate to the US. That's not true.

There's no way I can stay beyond the approval of my Lord Bishop. What will I be doing in the US? How will I even parade myself as a clergy without a written letter of release from my Bishop. Unless you mean my Bishop is also part of the shady deal like you have believed.

Where will I stay in the US after the conference is over and my host will be getting ready to escort me to the airport? Does that mean that this elderly clergy who has lived for 37 years in the US is part of the shady deal? I don't have or know anybody in the US.

I'm attending this conference with the permission of my wife. US is not heaven and I still have opportunities to travel the world. I'm not desperate. I'm an international minister of God. It will manifest fully. I will tour nations.

In 2012, I was in India to study multimedia. I knew what I encountered there. I was even single then. India was good. But, after my studies, I left without overstaying for one day.

So, speaking authoritatively that you know all my plans is quite unfair.

This forum or this thread is full of valuable information, but harassing people because you are one of people that give incisive information here, is totally unfair.

There are 101 people that got Visas, yet they lied during the interview.

There are 101 people also that were denied, yet, they said the truth and have ties.

VOs are not God. They are humans. They can misinterpret things.

***

In the thread I created, I wanted to use company and not church because NL is a secular forum. I wanted to paint a normal scenario that was why I used company.

But, later in the thread, I decided to be plain to someone that commented on the thread.

It's like someone saying this - "A friend of mine wants to get Visa to go meet his girlfriend who's a citizen, what are the documents?" Then, later in the thread, he says, "In fact, it's me. Let me explain further how I met her and bla bla."

You can't crucify the person for trying to be anonymous in the first place. We are not conducting interview here. This is why we use usernames and all that. This is why writers use pen names.

So, when I said my company, I was not trying to be shady.

So, please, I'm not trying to play any game. If you advice me that accepting to attend this conference when I have a new born baby who I should stay around to enjoy his arrival, may look as if I'm desperate to the VO, then I can reason with you. But telling me that my plans are bursted, is lame. There no bursting here. I'm credible beyond what you might think.

If I want to relocate to the US as a clergy with my family, there's a laid down procedures for doing it in the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion). The Bishop over there, the Primate of the Church of Nigeria and my own Bishop will work it out and I will be applying for Religious Visa, which will enable me to work.

Besides that, no sane clergy of Anglican Church and Roman Catholic Church will just travel with a visiting Visa and then stay back. Stay back for what and on whose episcopal permission?

Thank you. Let's keep on giving value.

Believe what you want to believe. It's lame trying to police people that are denied Visa. You don't know me and you don't know whether I'm saying the truth or not. You are just worked up and guessing.

Neither do you know me! You definitely cannot be saying the truth, that, I can say authoritatively, you are even far from being economical with the truth sef, you are a dully cunning person, simple! Ain't worked up, I'm making an educated/informed guess which is more likely than your cock and bull story. I've bursted several of your type in the years I've spent here, even when they show up with different monikers subsequently to deceive themselves and not us. You can't use our experience to immigrate illegally to the US and join to make the road to visa issuance very much difficult for genuine applicants after you. I will pray a short prayer for you and your subsequent applications if you are not careful, and it will come to pass.... Just bend my friend!

Bla bla bla! How do you intend to make heaven if I may ask? I repeat, you plan is to migrate! Seen several of your types on ground and on here. I remember a "thief" that wore a cassock and acted his film well and got his visa the day I got my first, his conversation with his "gang" outside after the success when he came out from the embassy still hurts me till now. Hello,

I need advice. I was recently deported from the US and I need your advice on what to do.

I have travelled to so many countries because of my profession and have been to the US before on a professional exchange visit visa. I have also always returned at the stipulated time and have no criminal records.

Things got a little bit harder for me here in Nigeria and I decided to apply for a US B1/B2 visa masking that I wanted to visit even though I planned to work. The visa was easy to get having had a sort of relationship with the US guys in Nigeria.

I arrived at the POE and through hardluck and very stubborn immigration officials, it was discovered I had another mission. The incriminating messages on my phone and social media accounts were searched (which clearly suggested I was in the US to work) made it easier for them and they recorded this against my prints, name and I was deported.

I was equally not prepared for the questions because I assumed I won't face any scrutiny having been to the US before so I was a little bit honest especially after discovering I was caught. This made the immigration lady to offer me two options:

1. Withdraw my visa willingly and reapply anytime I want or

2. Be banned from the US for 5years and be forcefully removed.

I of course choose the former and returned to Nigeria quietly and still facing the challenges I thought visiting to work in the US will solve. Infact, I'm now in deeper debts.

Now my questions.

1. What should I do with my passport especially if I want to travel to another country? The US immigration officer cancelled and really destroyed the Visa on my passport with ink. Would this not raise a red flag if I present it elsewhere?

2. I have professional engagements in the US early next year. What will nairalanders advise me to do? Write the US embassy to apologise or how can I atone for my sins?

3. Is it ever possible to enter the US again given my story?

PS: I owned up to my mistake and have come clean. Kindly just advise and don't insult me please. I made a terrible mistake and I know it. I just want your advise.

Regards.

I think ppl tendering their transcript should tel us the window number that interviewd them.
The black American lady at window 8 is so mean, she was dashing out blue paper even after more that 5mins conversation. I wanted to run to the next window but my liver cut.
She also gave me and the person behind and another behind.
So please indicate the windows it will help us that want to reapply to avoid some Vos.

There's no problem. I love my family. I can forfeit the conference and enjoy my new bundle of joy. There will always be another opportunity.

The conference will last for 7 days. I can go, if given Visa. Yet, I can decide not to apply.

There's no Anglican or Roman Catholic priest that will use B1 Visa to migrate to the US. There's none. That will be the end of your priestly vocation. Unless your Bishop is part of the shady deal, which is unlikely.

3. And to those that throw God in every statement (outside of thanking whatever deity rocks your boat), why don't you ask God if you will get the visa, since you are ever more ready to tell us we are not God.
4. To those ready to spit venom on contributors, why do you turn to jelly when a VO says the same thing we tell you? are you afraid they may recognise you on the interview line, and make up their minds to reject you (relax, it doesn't work that way.).

Something I would like to add, when going for your interview, don't go "OVERKILL" with your dressing or appearance look directly at the interviewer, and be confident not forgetting body language.
If you feel uneasy, you can try putting your hands in your pocket or come up with something to keep you together.
And remember the question formats isn't cast in stone, meaning the interviewer might have been asking everyone before you the same questions doesn't mean you did be asked same, so listen carefully, relax & give your replies.
When I had mine, as much as I tried "escaping" from a particular window, I was sent there & I told myself "I'm here already, it can only get better" & by God's grace, I was issued.

My take.

To those saying the states hit by hurricane Irma is a no go area, i just laugh and wonder how people reason. The biggest tourist attraction in Orlando(Disney world resort) Florida closed for just 2 days and they didnt even loose power. Ask yorself these questions, after the hurricane did international flight arrivals not resume? did any majrr even like conferences holding immediately after the conference get cancelled?.

America is open for business 24hrs, have a clear intent and meet the requirement your visa will surely be issued, you may even want to come see the level of flooding and the after effect, present it well and i tell you the visa will be issued. This is a capitalist country, hence they don't want any excess luggage. if you can finance coming to charge your phone and can show you will return after your phone fully charges, the VO will be more than happy to grant you visa.

All the tourist places in Florida are open for business, hotels are open, there is no current stay at home order or evacuation.

Chicago is the murder capital of the USA, still people get visas to visit there. Make your travel plans to suit a purpose, not because people say florida is now submerged under water like Atlantis.

My own bit : You can not earn 500,000 naira , then want to do wedding shopping in the USA, it's a big and expensive industry, wedding dresses don't come cheap here. Go to Dubai or better still sew it in Nigeria jare.

Seriously

And they still accepted that passport photograph and issued you an international passport with such a picture

I don't want to believe that you were issued a Nigerian passport with that picture.
both immigration and US embassy accept head cover.

Hmmm, people getting upset that some of the Visa Officers are just refusing issuing of visas to them anyhow even when they think they are telling the truth have not come to terms or maybe are still in denial why that is the case.

The problem is that Nigeria is one of those countries where some if not most applicants have either misrepresented or have abused their visas once they get into the United States. Both the visas officers and well as the customs and border officers already know the numbers of visas abusers per country and that alone has affected the visas approval in those countries.

So until Nigeria becomes one of those countries where majority of its applicants live up to the terms of the issued visa by not abusing it by overstaying or misrepresentation unfortunately the visa approvals rates will still be heavily scrutinized and in most cases end up being denied.
