It is more like engagement, church or court has to seal their union officially to get a certificate. If peter decides to marry another person tomorrow and weds her in church or court that second person automatically becomes his legal wife and lola would be seen as nothing. That is what I know and have witnessed that too.

No, all are not weddings are not the same especially in igbo land because someone that did only traditional today can marry another person tomorrow and once he weds the second one that one becomes his legal wife. Their mom warned Peter not to marry Lola. In Anambra mothers wield so much powers amongst their sons. Now their mother has passed on. Peter was very stubborn for not have heeded her mom's advise.
