How to detect an Elaborate Job Vacancy Scam In Nigeria

There are tons of job vacancy scam today in Nigeria. But who is to blame, so many graduates are seeking employment and the evil ones are banking and cashing on this desperation.

There are a lot of job vacancies today and it is really important you differentiate the legit ones from the pure scam job adverts. The importance is so you do not fall a victim.

A vacancy job scam occurs when a scammer pose as a recruiter and swindles unsuspecting job seekers by presenting mouth watery salaries and benefits to them, but in most cases requiring them to pay some amount of money as upfront for the service rendered.

There have been news of people responding to job vacancy adverts and they got robbed others were kidnapped and there have been incidents of others getting killed.

We live in a testing and volatile zone and to be aware of the machinery of the evil ones is highly important to your general well-being and survival.

There are some elements you should look out for in a job vacancy advert before replying. It does not matter where you saw it, be it in the dailies, newspaper or on the internet. The fact that it appears on a major daily does not really make it legit.

How to detect an Elaborate Job Vacancy Scam In Nigeria

1. The email address are hosted don public domain like Gmail and yahoo mail. A serious company should have a a self-hosted email address on their website. The email should be secured like this ones Vacancy@zenithbank.com, Vacancy@uba.com

2. They usually don’t have a physical and definite office in case you want to verify if they exist truly.

Most of this job scams companies are only trying to lure you in with your interests.

They are criminal elements and some are robbers and kidnapper, so you see why you should be sincerely careful.

3. They tell you to pay for test, seriously who does that. You are not to pay for any test at any time, they are the ones seeking your service and thus should be able to cater for all logistics concerning you.

4. They mostly send unsolicited messages to your mobile phone and email address that you have been shortlisted for some phantom job you did not even apply for.

Be careful of such messages as they are mostly baits to people with ulterior motive.

5. They tell you to scan your certificates and send to them.

Beware, when applying for jobs, your CV alone is all they need, you are only to present your credentials in physical and original copy only when you get shortlisted for the interview.

Do not send your certificates to anyone, they may use them in perpetrating crimes like forgery and you will be held accountable.

6. If you do a background check on the company, you will notice many negative reviews about them

Most times, they don’t have any information or if they do, it will be limited and obscure with nothing of importance and value.

7. They have very fake and unsecured websites as there information page. The will ask you for credit cards details and other personal information, be careful as they engage in identity theft.

8. Their salary scales are mostly out of this world, salaries that does not tally with the job in question is what they present to offer to you.

Any company that offers you salary that is beyond your experience and educational level is bracing up to scam you, take note!

CONCLUSION How to detect an Elaborate Job Vacancy Scam In Nigeria

To be forewarned is to be fore armed, you don’t want to fall victim to this unscrupulous elements as it will not spell well for your future job search.

OP you're ABSOLUTELY correct. But you forgot to mention some REGULAR things they do

(1) They send you messages on Monday for an interview on Tuesday. What reputable company does that Even if it'll be done, you ought to be called first, asked if you'll be chanced for the interview before sending you a message. I've experienced such a couple of times and it's not a biggie. But if you sened me a message for an interview a day to the scheduled date, I no dey go biko. Sometimes they send it on Friday and schedule it for Monday. Iranu.

(2) "You're invited for a JOB BRIEF with HR . . . . . shocked shocked Watin be tat one Biko RUN!!. I called one to ask what the job is about and his response was ''when you come, you'll be told''. THUNDER FAYA YA NYASH DIA!!!

(3) The time the interview is scheduled to hold is usually 8am shocked shocked I'll explain why. Read down.....

(4) At the bottom of the text, you'll ALWAYS see REF: (with a number). You know why they put it? Cos the place they use for their 'interview' is being used by so many of their kind, so te REF number will tell them you're for them when you get to the venue.

NOW, just in case you decide to give them a try (which I STRONGLY kick against), here are things you'll encounter when you get to the venue

(1) You get there by 8am (cos the process long and dem want make you come on time so that you no go complain about time) and you're sitted in a little room along with other mugus. A guy comes to inform you of a test that'll last for 30mins, and the test is just 20% of your overall rating (imogene!!) Believe me, even if you miss the test, you'll still be allowed to continue with the recruitment process.

(2) After the test, next will be a brief on their core values and this will last for about an hour or MORE (NO EXAGGIRATION HERE)

(3) Next will be a speech from their CEO. This one go last for more than 2 hours aswear!!!

(4) At the end of it all, guess what the job is....... You're to buy a franchise for more that 15k!! Or they're selling one mumu thing or the other. Or even marketting.

So you see why I talk say make you no even go at the first place

Na only GOD go help our hunt. according to M.I ''everything we dey face right now go turn story...''

Selling drugs and the likes, they will butter you up and a man with inflated ego will tell u he built houses with the business and it can be you too, it's a trap, a very deep one, they will ask u to register with maybe 50 or 100k and expect double your returns in like 1 month, your money will never be returned.

But most Nigerian govt jobs are like that especially (3&5), so does that make them a scam?
Re: How To Detect Job Vacancy Scam In Nigeria (be Safe) by Nobody: 11:37am On Sep 28, 2017
I disagree with your first point about domain. Some companies do like be anonymous. Famfa once used Gmail, Same wit neconde oil and gas. I got my first job test and interview invites through text message. The key thing here is never pay any advance fee even if it's a recruiting firm.

OP, you have to review what you posted here. Some emails are not scams. I gave someone a job recently using a Gmail. In fact, about 5 people.

Also, the reason some companies remain anonymous is because of interference.

Do not confuse folks out there. All in all, job seekers have to be careful! And don't pay anyone a dime.
