bitex2:

The median nerve may not be involved in a MIDSHAFT fracture as it does not lie intimately with the midshaft of bone rather it runs in the medial intermuscular septum before crossing the medial SUPRACONDYLE of the humerus.Hence a SUPRACONDYLAR fracture is most likely to affect the MEDIAN NERVE.
This was one of our Anatomy stipple chase question. A bone was marked at the midshaft and the most likely nerve to be damaged was asked.
Yea,I know the radial nerve and profunda brachii artery run in the radial groove and are severed always when there is a FRACTURE,mid-shaft,obviously!!! But come to think of it,the question says the individual was shot and not that he/she fell and had the humerus fractured! You don't necessarily have a fracture when you're shot and as we all know, these vessels (radial nerve and profunda brachii vessels) are all well buried beneath the thick triceps muscle!!!!!! You see?! Another factor to be considered is if the bullet came anteriorly or posteriorly! Let me stop here,I hope you got my point so far.

That is a fracture boss. This is a gunshot wound. The bullet will pierce any structure it comes in contact with.
My point exactly!!

Good morning good people.
please I want to write the coming Jamb, I would like to know if my WAEC result can enter any school that their medicine and surgery is accredited and the school fees is cheap.
Below is my NECO result
English: B3
Maths: B3
Biology: C4
Chemistry: C5
Physics: C5
Economics: B2
Marketing: C4
1) Do I need to write another O level result to study medicine and what should I be aiming for in Jamb?
2)Do they still do post utme?

sorry for my many reappeared questions, I don't know anything about undergraduate admission anymore

1. Give the Anatomical basis and pathological complication, on why your friend shoud not press the pimples on his upper lip?
2. why is there: a. breast development b. female external genitals c. NO male internal genitals in Testicular feminization syndrome.
3. A man was shot on the midshaft of his humerus, what anatomical structures must have been affected?
For number 3 questions
Alot of things actually happen at the midshaft of the humerus.
So gunshot to the midshaft of humerus will affect
1. Median nerve and brachial artery because the Median nerve crosses the brachial artery anteromedially.
2. Radial nerve and Profunda brachial artery because they run in the spiral groove of the humerus at the midshaft
3. Brachialis and coracobrachialis have proximal and distal attachment respectively at the midshaft so their actions would be impelled.
Etc.

1) I'd advice you to try and take another waec ,and read for it like your life depends on it
2) the ban to conduct post utme was lifted this year so you'll surely do post UTME ,I also did post utme this year.
I would have told u to leave ur result and don't write another assuming you want to go to a private school but admission into any federal school in Nigeria to study medicine is so competitive and needs you to pass very well in order to b admitted.
Thank you

1.
Introduction
My friend should not do so because the upper lip is included among the danger area of the face. A pimple pop there might cause an infection to spread via the facial vein to the brain.
Anatomical Basis
The danger area of the face is a triangular area in the centre of the face which is bounded externally by a line running from the angle of the mouth to the root of the nose. It is so called because in this area, the facial vein via the superior opthalmic veins, inferior ophthalmic veins and the pterygoid venous plexus communicates with the cavernous sinus and an infection in this area can get into the facial vein and then into the cavernous sinus.
Pathological Basis
An infection in the facial vein around the danger area of the face spreads to the cavernous sinus via venous communications. This causes inflammation of the cavernous sinus, a condition called cavernous sinus thrombophlebitis. This can lead to increased pressure in the cavernous sinus thus compressing brain structures and leading to brain damage.
2.a. Excess testosterone is converted to oestrogen which stimulates breast development.
b. Absence of 5-alpha reductase. Thus no DHT to inhibit development of female external genitals.
c. Androgens are insensitive thus wolfian duct cannot be differentiated.
3. Radial nerve
Brachial artery
Probably musculocutaneous nerve also
Well, you really did well in No. 1 question but you didn't tell us the main route the infection gets to the cavernous sinus.

the infection passes through the facial vein to the deep facial vein to the pterygoid plexus of vein to the emissary vein to the cavernous sinus.
The rest of your explanation is perfect about the danger area of the face.

Well done!!

The body would always utilize glucose before the other monosaccharides (fructose nd galactose)

Question now is why?
Would appreciate answers

From what I can remember, the body does not even utilize fructose or galactose for energy. They have to go through the feeder's pathway before they can be utilized. Except in cases like the sperm that use fructose via the sorbitol pathway. And why glucose is used I think it's because it is easily transported into the cells.

I am being thinking probably evolution made glucose a more favorable substrate.... Thus most enzymes available shunt them into glucose pathway.
