Florblu:In my school our exam officer usually gave the invigilator biscuits, water and coke with transport money (I can assure you that it was with no strings attached), so maybe this happens in some other schools too then the school decides to add a little "something" to the food |

My junior one who attended a government school told me how teachers in his school once laced a bribe of beans, bread and cold malt with sleeping substances. Just so they can participate in exam malpractice, it's so sad, but a whole lot of us have participated in it. |

greatiyk4u:Your statement is spot on. In my office, I'm termed either a mad man or troublesome fellow because I don't agree with all their nonsense decisions or play politics with junior colleagues future. It's so bad that I was stabbed in the back because of some fool's perceived relationship with someone in the hr unit. Loyalty and integrity are erased words in 99% of Nigerians' dictionaries. |

greatiyk4u: dfrost:Words on Marble Nobody values integrity in Nigeria! It will be nice to pick some 109 people from high up and PROVE their guilt and SHOOT them 1 from each senatorial district so that there will be no cry of marginalisation Do that once a year and keep it up for 5 years The idea is to put the fear of backlash in their heads Or you can even make it all past presidents/heads of state, I don't care |

It is not the students, It is the school exam coordinator or the teachers . They buy food for the officials and after eating they sleep for 1hr:30min out of 2hrs paper. You can imagine what transpires within that period |

BetaThings:I would have concurred, but then who do trust that would not sell you out. That's the point. Almost everyone in Nigeria is becoming a sellout. As it stands now, there are a few people I can confide in. Even those I grew up with are turning into something else because of money, food, fame or immaterial things that don't make sense to me. Someone somewhere is willing to rat you out over a bowl of soup. If anyone wants to get acquainted with me, he has to see the three episodes of The Godfather. |

Itz a simple sturvz...all they gotta do is inject some codeine and rophynol into 'em system and upon taking 'em seats in the hall they just fart and fill the room with 'em fart and when the invigilators inhale the bad air that's it ooo shikena. Mind you 'em students won't be affected cos they are all highly immune to the after effect of the sturvs they took before entering the exam hall |

All these long sentences all boils down to say that examination malpractices has eaten so deep into our secondary schools that nobody now writes the WAEC/NECO/NABTEB exams these days and will not get atleast 5 credits including English and Mathematics. At leat 95% of candidates make it in every yearly exam since the internet started making waves in Nigeria. In some centres you are asked pay N1,000 daily on each paper day for what is called "Passing-Paper. This is quite different from the N30,000 or so you would have paid for the exam runs in general. Some students get registered with some Nigerian blogs that send the answers to them to their phones within 15 minutes of the commencement of the paper. They use phones that the light will be dimmed without being noticed. Even though the use of phones is prohibited in the hall, they still have a way they smuggle in with their phones. The centre invigilators too use every exam year to make thousands of naira. Some parents will pull out their children from SS2 from a school that exam malpractice is not tolerated and get them enrolled in another school where malpractice is fully embraced for the SS3 exams. In the end, many of these children make 9A's and can't defend it in the higher institution. While different means are deviced yearly to reduce exam malpractices, students still device alternative ways of out-smarting exam bodies, thereby making the task of curbing this menace a difficult one. To me, exam malpractice cannot be completely eliminated in Nigeria but somehow, it can be drastically reduce if the government/exam bodies are really telling the truth. |
