The Lagos State Sector Command, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it has commenced operation “Show Your Licence’’ across the state to arrest drivers without a valid licence.

The State Sector commander, Hyginus Omeje said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) in Lagos on Thursday.

“The state command, this week, inaugurated operation ‘Show your License’ campaign across the state to arrest motorists who had no valid driving license.

“We are doing this as part of our ember month programmes to sensitise drivers on the need to possess valid licences before driving,’’ he said.

Other highlights:

Omeje said that the state command recorded 57 road crashes in the third quarter of 2017, adding that the development showed a decrease of 46.2 percent, compared to the same period in 2016.
According to him, there are 55,802 unclaimed licences in the sector command due to the failure of many drivers to claim such documents.
Omeje noted that enforcement of speed limiters had brought a tremendous reduction in road accident across the state.
The sector commander, who said all commercial fleet operators must to install the speed limit device in their vehicles, noted that compliance level had reached 33.1 percent in the state.
According to him, another 192 motorists were cautioned while seven motorists were charged to court for allegedly failing to install speed limiter.
Omeje also said that there was a plan to equip all the patrol vehicles in the state with breathalyzers to detect motorists, especially the commercial ones driving under the influence of alcohol.

Misplaced priority, they lack basic knowledge, there core job is not to check license, they are meant to prevent accident.

Stop vehicles that are heavily over loaded

Make sure drivers are using there seat belts

Arrest drivers who flout road rules

It might not be their core job, but it's assumed that any driver who went through driving lessons in an accredited centre _thus being eligible for a DL, wouldn't be found guilty of the points you mentioned.

They prevent accidents by listing centres where people can go learn. People choose learn in their village squares, jump into the road and endanger themselves/other road users.
Check job isn't a bad job after all.

So, can I see your driver's licence Sir? smiley

Not having a DL is flouting a road rule sef.

you and I know that is not the case? We put more emphasis on certificate, license etc without having the proper attitude. How many of the driving schools teach the correct driving rules? How many times have you as an individual stopped at a zebra crossing? Even if you want to stop, you cannot because the moment you try to stop another stupid driver will ram you from the back. Why must we always have a total gridlock at a junction? It's because no it's meant to be first in first out, do we practice it? Is it the photocopy paper they gave me since march this year and my you want to see? Those guys are jokers

You learn driving etiquette (proper attitude) in driving schools grin
I can tell if someone went to a good driving school from the way they drive. I can also tell if they were taught by a panel beater in one school field.

1)If you go to accredited driving schools, your licence would be worth putting emphasis on.

2)It's not about how many teach correct driving rules, but do people attend them? They are listed on their site.
http://frsc.gov.ng/about-us/accredited-driving-schools

3)No Zebra crossing in my hood_but when I see one (mainly those done by schools), I stop after ensuring it's safe to stop. You don't go slamming your brakes at the sight of zebra crossings and expect not to rammed into.

4)Maybe traffic lights/controllers would help in the gridlock at junctions. In the absence of that, everyone would claim right of way and you wouldn't blame them. No one came to the road to do a census of cars.

There'll always be people who bypass laws, getting into the road to catch them isn't a bad idea. They have to take them off the road _so, sane people like me can be safe cheesy.

The major causes of accident are unlicensed drivers, who dont know that using traffic pointer before change of lane is mandatory. Who dont know that overtaking on the hard shower could be disastrous. who dont know the rules neither would they adhere to any. That is their Job.

@ FRSC if my license has expired does it mean that I no longer know how to drive?

Or does my ability to drive expire with the license?

Your very right its unconstitutional for them to arrest their job is to check and advice motorist on safety of cars on the road but the greed of typical nigerians has turn them to police. They is no where in the world where road safety department/corps harass and arrest motorist except in the most populated retrogressive black nation in the world called nigeria undecided

What has driver's license got to do with safety of lives?
In Nigeria, you can get a valid driver's license without going to driving school.
They are all after revenue generation, they have a target and d year is gradually coming to an end.
Enforcement of this will bring forth revenue generation for the following:
Driving school
FRSC
VIO
Local govt
IRS
Insurance companies
Banks
