I don't understand but let me explain my part. I have 4 kids, only the last baby is entitled to automatic citizenship cos he was born after my hubby got his red passport. The other 3 will have to go the normal settlement route like me B4 naturalization and citizenship is given. We were asked to submit all manners of documents like hospital records, immunization records, marriage certificates, pictures etc. They kept asking for more and we kept giving them. Later I was told at the hospital that a rep from the embassy came to verify that actually my baby was born there, sex, weight and who signed for the cs birth . Since we didn't forge any doc, we were not bothered. At the end they asked my hubby if he's willingly to do DNA. He answered in the affirmative. They were satisfied and issued the British passport to my son.

Lexusgs430:

If the other 2 kids were not entitled to British citizenship, the type eye wey den for dey take look you and your husband in the future, no go get part 11....

Your kids would get their red passport, once all is settled in the UK....

My point was simply in tongue n cheek reference.... Assuming your 2 kids would not be entitled to a red passport, imagine what they would be telling you in 15 years time?

Lol. Ok. I understand now. You got me with the tongue n cheek statement.

Appreciate this thread and all discussions. We will all come back with good news.

@deebaby05 Did you actually went for the DNA test or they only asked if he was willing do? We had the same experience when we applied for automatic naturalization for my son. After their thorough investigations, we were asked to go for a DNA test which we did. He got his red passport finally 13months after the application. We are now waiting for our application to be processed. Submitted 27th September.. Goodluck to us!

Was your application honestly presented or were you economical with some truths?

The only way to get old application data, is to hack UKBA's databases........

If your previous application was honest, just go with the flow....

No we didn't do DNA test, guess they wanted to see how willing he was and we got my son's passport in 6 months.

Everything will work out well for all of us.

My wife recently applied for a marriage settlement visa and I've sent all the required documentation to Sheffield. I'd like to send some additional documentation to support the application just to be on the safe side but as they've received the documentation already sent, am I allowed to send more documentation without them requesting it? Any advise from those in the know would be very much appreciated.

I don't think sending document(s) without them requesting is right..
Just pray and hope the ones you've already sent will do the work and if they need more, they'd surely contact you.
All the best!!!

The devil is in the detail ' to suit them then'...... That exactly is the issue......

You might need to go back to them and read through achieved copies...

Thanks both. We made a priority application and yesterday went past the 10 day timeframe of when documents should be received so it's probably too late to send more documentation. Maybe I'm just being paranoid after reading some of the reasons people have given for their applications being rejected and don't want to take any risks. As suggested I will just pray and hope the ones already sent will do the work.

My husband has written his letter of introduction or invitation letter for myself and children
(Hes a tier 4 student and we are applying as his dependents)

1. Whats the name of my husband's letter called?
letter of introduction or invitation letter?

2. Do I need to write a personal statement or introduction letter for myself
detailing am a house wife and a list of the documents I'm submitting?

3. Do I need to print my application form and also submit at Biometrics taking?

Thank you

My sincere apologies for replying this late, i totally forgot to reply this ontime

1. Letter of introduction

2. Not necessary as your hubby has written one

3. Yes you need to do that(hopefully the system hasn't changed), you will be told during the online application if you need to do that.

Can someone be kind enough to answer this in addition to...

4. What do I need to say I'd be doing in the UK seeing am a house wife and joining my husband in the UK with my two children?

5. What do I say about my 9 year old son's schooling when we get to the UK?

6. Am I supposed to print my husband's statement of account showing he still has his maintenance funds?
Even though he already spent part of it in securing a family accommodation? If yes... how much more should he show?

Thank you so much for answering

4. You don't need to explain that, looking after 2kids is a full time job anyway.

5. He can enroll in school in the UK to continue his education.

6. Yes you have to print the bank statement but make sure that the money on it meets the financial requirement else it will be another refusal

Hi guys please I need your urgent and immediate help and advice.

I applied for my spousal visa last 2 weeks (Priority) and my spouse a British Citizen living in the UK has submitted the supporting documents, however, I just came across this topic and saw where a poster wrote he had applied for settlement - marriage and had to change it to settlement - husband.

I called my hubby and told him and he said he was sure it was settlement - marriage only for him to call his lawyer who told him it was settlement - wife.

I am a bit worried now but the lawyer advised I wouldn’t be rejected on this basis that we should write a letter to them stating the error and asking them to provide the link for the health tests or so...

Their application plat form is so confusing, Settlement marriage, settlementwife, Settlement husband, civil partnership etc damn!

Anyone had this experience?

Honestly i don't know what means, settlement wife and settlement husband?

How much was your visa application and what document(s) did you and your husband submitted?

You know when applying for settlement/spousal visa, you are to select the sub category,I selected marriage but the lawyer said it was wife I was supposed to select.

I paid over 2000 dollars and the the documents were those required for spousal visa.... his utility bill etc pictures of us, tuberculosis test, appendix 2 etc

I had this issue while filling my application online so I left that one to fill another one. I did settlement - marriage initially then later did another one of settlement - husband as the right one because the first one didn't take me to IHS payment which I learnt was needed. I paid $1918 while IHS was $816.

Greetings house,
I just picked up my passport and visa this morning 10:45am!!! It has been a real journey for me and I give thanks to God that it has ended well.

I sincerely wish I had found out about this thread before embarking on this spouse visa application project. Initially, I had mistakenly submitted 'settlement-marriage' instead of 'settlement-husband' application in my first attempt. On realizing I submitted the wrong application, I quickly cancelled and recalled the application on same day. But the visa fee of over £1,200 which I paid went with the wind since I had already submitted my biometrics. There was no refund for me cry It felt like the ground should open up and swallow me...over N650k (£1,200) lost in this our recession! I have not fully recovered from that loss to be honest.

I picked myself up and started again. This time I applied with the right application: settlement-husband, and I also paid for priority. Unfortunately, it was only after submitting my 2nd application that I found out about this thread and realized that my 2nd application was not as strong as I could have made it. But the Lord did it for me all the same.

Visa granted since 8th Jan 2017 (I didn't know they stamp visas on Sundays)

I will post my visa timeline shortly.

You guys should keep up the good work of providing UK visa information on this thread. God bless you all abundantly!

I had the same issue. I was also advised to write Home Office (HO) to inform them of the oversight. But knowing how easy it is for HO to reject applications, I decided to cancel my application of settlement-marriage and reapply using the right category of settlement-husband. Money down the drain. Settlement-marriage is for applicants, who are not yet married, but are seeking to get married in the UK. With the settlement-marriage visa one is NOT eligible to work and is granted for a period of 6 months (as compared to 33 months for settlement-husband/wife).

I decided to recall/cancel my settlement-marriage application about 1 hour after I had sent it off. I was still at the visa application center when I realized I had made a mistake. I went down stairs to pay for the IHS payment via these visa agents in side shops, only for one of them to inform me I made the wrong application and that I should cancel to avoid the risk of my application being rejected.

Hello Everyone,
My husband's application got refused due to English test. I can't believe it.
He wrote the test at the approved center in Ikeja and scored an overall of 8.0 but they said it is a general training training certificate.

Please what are my options? reapplying?
How can I ensure he takes the right one this time?

Thank you
Re: UK Spouse Visa/Appeal Process-part2 by Mamalicious: 1:04pm On Oct 24, 2017
Aww sorry about this. In my own opinion since that was the only reason for rejection, he shld quickly book a date for the IELTS LIFE SKILLS A1 TEST, take it (very easy test. Result comes out exactly one week from test date. Its either pass or fail no grades whatsover) and reapply again. U wuld nt need to pay IHS fee again just visa fee.

If you can run and write the A1 life skills test, you should do that and send it to them explaining. You may still have time. Don't leave it to chance. Even though I feel the case worker was very petty and mean in my case but at least you can do something about it.

I would advise your husband takes the right English Test ''You can prove your knowledge of English by passing an approved English language test with at least a CEFR level A1 in speaking and listening.'', then reapply. See here: https://www.gov.uk/uk-family-visa/knowledge-of-english

Alternatively, if your hubby has a B.Sc. taught in English he can verify through UK NARIC to stand in for the IELTS life skills A.
