[quote author=kn23h post=61730678] So many children on this board. I doubt you understand the degree of the conversation. This is beyond hate. Your problem is that you want to join the conversation without comprehending the content. The mods need to do a better job at not taking certain threads to front page based on first page comments. @post This is a very good move. If this move is approved, how will we ensure that certain countries like Zimbabwe don't mismanage the currency again? What will these other African countries offer that will help strengthen and suistain the "African currency" Brother biko zimbabwe is not in west africa. |

Buhari is just an ardent n archaic conservative, always opposed to ideas not easily comprehended by him due to low intellectual capacity, you are opposed to something without given cogent reasons, the European Union been referenced is already on single currency I.e the euro.me I'm opposed to a common currency but rather in support of a "unified value currency" in which all the currencies will retained the names n design but have the same value, we lack the technology n security to checkmate counterfeiting, cross border currency smuggling etc in operating a common currency, but with my"unified value currency " the whole of ECOWAS will become a common market with manufacturers competing against each other but individual States maintaining some control n checks, citizens will also not bother too much about migration as you only need to make money in your country and you are as good as any other citizen in the region.but due to wide difference in developmental levels I'm completely against free movement of persons or a unified passport in ECOWAS.if there is anyone with a better idea he/she can put it forward, but me I know say I try pass buhari!. 1 Like |

I never agreed personally with idea of common currency mainly for sovereignty reasons. Then the economies of ecowas aren't that diversified to handle commodity price shocks. I could be wrong but it's just an opinion. The big issue is all the nation's have different fiscal policies. We could end up with issues like EU with irresponsible states needing bailouts. There's a lot to consider before jumping the gun with this idea. We should work on having common electricity market and linking our nation's together. Our trade still low and we should work to improve it to 30% between member states. 1 Like |

positivetaught:pls stop Buhari is 100% right here! why? among 16 countres of ecowas countries only five have their own currency, Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Gambia, Sierra-leone I think; all other countries have one currency, fcfa, and in one monetary Union call UMOA but under the control of France Central Bank! Now all their economic power largely rely on france, and even france had several time calling and taken actions on them to stand alone but they can't, they want Nigeria to replace france, why? if gambia, serra-leone can have their own currency why 11 cfa zone(ivory coast, senegal Niger etc) can't have one currency? Then later, thinking of joining it together with the nation that have been in monetary independence before? Bravo Buhari! |
