Onazi, Emenike Score In Trabzonspor, Olympiakos Cup Wins
October 25, 2017 5:35 pm
By James Agberebi:

Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi was on target for Trabzonspor who thrashed third-tier side Corum Belediyespor 6-0 away in the fourth round of the Turkish Cup on Wednesday.

Onazi scored in the 74th minute to make it 4-0 in favour of Trabzonspor.

Hugo Rodallega (eighth, 18th minutes) and Dame N’Doye (79th, 82nd minutes) both had a brace while Theo Bongonda scored in the 52nd minute.

Rodallega was however shown a straight card in the 63rd minute.

Onazi’s only other goal came in the league and he has made five appearances in the Turkish top flight this season.

In the Greek Cup, also on Wednesday, former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike scored for Olympiacos who defeated second division side Acharnaikos 3-0 away.

Emenike scored in the 90th minute to bring the score to 3-0.

Guilaume Gillet and Andre Martins had scored in the ninth and 48th minutes respectively for Olympiakos.

The win took Olympiakos to first position on six points after two wins in Group five in the Greek Cup.

Emenike, who is yet to score in the Greek Super League after four games so far this season, has now scored three goals in the Cup.

That's what's killing naija footie - bribery!

The PE teacher, Festus Onigbinde, turned the Super Eagles camp into a business center prior to Japan - Korea World Cup. He was literally charging players for an invite. As a matter of fact, I nicknamed him Mr. $10,000 per junk player. We all know how Efe Sodjie made it to the world cup!

In 2014, Keshi did exactly the same thing. Many of the players he invited didn't make sense. He policy was quite simple: once I get my first eleven, I can use the other slots to make some quick bucks.

Samson Siasia and Sunday Oliseh were the same way, especially when it comes to agents running the show. I just pray and hope that Rohr would have the backbone to call them bluff this time around.

O pari

I think and I believe to some extent.. Coach Rohr will try not to yield to agents.

First according to him.. He said he has witnessed firsthand bribery and he yielded not...

Two.. Coach Rohr is a okay man... I think he's wealthy... According to some report.. Not really sure... Said he had an hotel in France

Three.. This SE job mean alot to him and his career let not forget he was embarrassed in Tunisia by one of the club...

Forth.. He was working with German football team think their youth team before the SE job... Definitely he knows what he is doing..

Most issues that can't cause palava for him.and his players ..

Are salary issues... And he said he doesn't care about it and I read somewhere that his contact has been extended for another two years.. And he has been paid three month upfront salary... That means his fine

Two... Team spirit which is working so hard to achieve I think he learnt that during his coaching career in Tunisia when he was labeled as coach without a team spirit... Players lacking discipline...

Three.. He is somehow discipline... Yes we might not read that.. Cos he doesn't curse his players in front of media.. And I read some where when he said one of his players sent message to him through whatsapp before Zambia match ..telling him coach Zambia match is done... He said he need to call the player and warn him not to do that again...

Player bonus... According to NFF. And with the money they receive From FIFA.. NFF said they are going to have meeting with the players before the end of the year to discus the bonus...

We re good to go... My opinion though

He still has about three weeks. It's normally 2 weeks to game day and Rohr has always waited till last minute. So I'm looking forward to the week of the 1st till the 4th of Nov. It should be out by then. Argentina just rushed and released theirs. Dunno know y.
Algeria hasn't even released theirs yet.

I believe that I asked the same question on Monday. The game is barely two weeks away and we still haven't seen who's invited for the match.

Mujtahida:

I feel your views on Ezenwa from Rohr's comments are out of sync with how things played out. I presume Rohr made that comment when Ezenwa had not featured in any of the last three matches. Consider that Akpeyi was fit for the last match yet Ezenwa kept the goal. Except you have personal objections against Ezenwa as at today he is No 1. The matches he kept goal were no mean matches and even though we know we need a Super keeper we must acknowledge that he did well.

Rohr comment on Ezenwa as number 4... Is just not to make any players feel bad.. Or not to upset the team spirit in dressing home.. Whether we like it or not to some extent Akpeyi is influencial in that team.. Now imagine someone that has claimed to be number one was in camp and Rohr decided to mention Ezenwa as number one.. What did you think it would have happened?

Don't forget the case of oliseh and enyeama... Even enyeama was not angry he was removed as the captain. His question was why musa? Why not Mikel?

And if you could remember in one of the our game during the world cup qualifier when oliseh was in charge... He substituted musa... Musa walked up to Mikel to give him captain band what happened? Mikel rejected it... And onazi run up to musa to collect it...

Team spirit matters alot... And I really like how Rohr handle those situation... He's really wise and full of experience...

He is the last of the maestros.
There's a nagging problem which I think Rohr has to address quickly not even till we get to the World Cup. How do we remain vibrant when Mikel is substituted or when he doesn't play. Who is the big game player to step things up. Onazi and Echiejile didn't live up to the billing against SA. What is to be done?

That's the next line of action... I believe Rohr too noticed and know about it... Let see how Algeria and Argentina match will look like then... We start another talk...

I feel.. Joel Obi might be recall into the team...

I think this list is something we have to revisit time and time again.
No guarantees, but nice for a start..

Modified
I mean this is how it's looking at the moment. It will only take a flop from Ezenwa, a solid return of Enyeama, a wonderful Uzoho debut. and did Rohr say Ikeme will go to Russia sick or not? I thought I read something like that. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

I think the GK slot is a little tricky. And maybe Etebo is not safe yet.

He said that... Could not lay my hand on the source right now... He said he might not play but serve a team booster... But I dunno sha.. Why can he just invite him instead of putting his name on 23 man list...

He can travel with the team without being part of 23 man list.. God forbid injury to unknown number goalkeeper

Big Joe, that wasn't a criticism o. I was just a little worried whether some folks at the NFF are trying to twist his arms. You know, now that we've qualified, the Nigerian factor is about to kick in .... all the agents and godfathers are waiting to strike.

Well, let's hope so. Because I am worried about the way we do things in Nigeria. Rohr has consistently invited players on merit since he started coaching the Super Eagles but, now that we've qualified, I won't be surprised if we begin to see strange names on the invite list. All the godfathers that full the NFF would start to submit their own lists as well. Rohr might submit one list and what shows up on the final list may probably have two or more names that materialized out of "nowhere". Mark my word!

No, don't get me wrong, I wasn't talking about Rohr getting bribed or anything. I am most concerned about his employers: the NFF. He might receive an order "from the above" to invite certain players - players that he didn't really want, but might be pressured to invite them. That's the Nigerian factor that I was talking about.

Harry Kane is a pretty good player. World class? Not even close. Comparable to Cristiano Ronaldo yet? Delusional!
And I didn't even wanna mention Messi's name because that would be an abomination!!

Harry Kane goals are no flukes, he is definitely a world class player. I didn't believe it initially but succumbed whenever I saw him scored.

Rohr is wise in the way he has emphasised team spirit and unity. That has been his song. In fact all these new players we like to mention will be included - if at all they are included - not just for their footballing skills but for their relational skills.

Yea, I think Iwobi would be great in the #10 role. He plays it very well for Arsenal, whenever he has a chance.

As regards to Mikel and Onazi, I won't mind that combo either especially considering the the way Ndidi plays for the Super Eagles.

O pari

Mujtahida:

Seriously I am hungry to see Iwobi play from the middle and like you said the earlier he begins to warm into the role, the better for us. We've not tried Ndidi - Mikel in the double pivot role as against Mikel - Onazi. I prefer Onazi to Ndidi for now as a constant in the pivot role. I hope I don't start an Ndidi/Onazi debate. Onazi is just my preference.

I think I read he was going to invite a large pool of players for the Algeria and Argentina matches.
I personally think that is a great idea, as any newly discovered player needs to be integrated in the team early. In this circumstance I expect Rohr to be more cautious
