NotComplaining: You are a blatant liar and you lack commonsense! Majority of whites will blame terminal illness on lifestyle and health and then go to hospital not babalawo - Africans will typically blame it on witchcraft, juju, enemies and then go for "spiritual healing" and help to fund pastors and juju people. Most white men have no problem changing careers or looking for alternatives to success, they don't dwell on some spiritual or fetish reasons for lack of success! |

Let's talk about the volume of efforts by the movie industry to paint a not so correct picture of superstitious beliefs(ie withcraft or wizardry ). On a philosophical note,it is impossible to explain an abstract concept (without any physical appearance)or form as correct or factual knowledge. Arguably, we can only assume to know a great deal of it. This process is limited in metaphysics and Plato cautioned that we must draw a line of distinction between NUOMENA and PHENOMENA;the former is another word for assumption or what existentialists describe as COLLECTIVE CONSPIRACY,while the latter is, according to Plato, correct or factual knowledge. Take the case of the cloud, normally it is viewed as a white fleecy substance that changes colour but it is ,as a matter of fact and science, the CONCENTRATION OF RAINDROPS. Does the belief in withcraft assume the form of accurate knowledge as described above or it is movie producers and public sentiments overstretching the truth? How did we come about such amount of knowledge and information about an inexplicable entity since we agree that it is an invisible realm(Has anyone conversed or even set his eyes on a witch or a wizard?) In Africa most cultures consider the bird as the conspicuous symbol for witchcraft. You may have heard or read stories in the dailies or caught on the cameras lending credence to this belief. There are questions to be asked. If true why does withcraft takes as its symbol an object of flight and beauty? Ever seen a beautiful garden home to birds of diverse colours, flying across the lush green grass? In Africa most people will stone a bird to death on the suspicion of witchcraft. As long as I am not invalidating the belief in it,I am going to have to ask us to prove that our knowledge of witchraft is exact and not an over-egged pudding? This is written to investigate the undue influence African movies have had on our psyche in their attempt go metaphysical, full swing. 1 Like 1 Share |

I think every culture believes in the existence of supernatural things. Americans do. Phillipinos/as are worse than Africans in this aspect. The difference is that only Africans tie their destiny to ghosts and witches. As a matter of fact, Africans embrace anything that encourages mental laziness. Ever wonder why pastors are billionaires in Nigeria? They inculcate the spirit of mental laziness by preaching prosperity through miracles instead of through innovations, inventions and brain work. 3 Likes 1 Share |

gentlechyke: You forgot that whiteman created Mirror too, I wonder what the ignorant old woman could have used to see you in the smoke filled thatched hut if oyinbos didn't bring mirrors to Africa in exchange for slaves? Americans are about the most ignorant populace in the so-called developed world, hence their myopic delusion and warped choice of leaders,i.e,trump. 1 Like |

From the posts on this thread, it seems that many wrongly latch on to this as reason for strengthening their belief in the supernatural. Legitimizing your supernaturalism stance based on statistics of believers is very weak to say the least. Just because many people around the world believe something is true doesn't make it true. On the contrary, the fact that supernatural beliefs, once widespread in developed countries, is now relegated in favour of naturalism via the rise of rationalism being commonplace and the scientific method weakens the case for belief in the supernatural. True, the statistics of supernatural beliefs is a worthy subject on its own but don't mistake it for proof. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Edonojie007: You are not making sense, I am sorry but I have to consider you an ape. Sorry! But let me try, The world is now a global village, we eat, drink, buy, conduct business, travel to each other and even inter-marry. It is bound to happen in an ever changing world. Buying goods from Namibia or China or Cuba has absolutely nothing to do with the religion, beliefs, spirituality of the people involved - it is pure global commerce! You are very backward person, with your mentality you should not be allowed in civilized societies...I mean it! |

The whole world believe in supernatural powers, sorceries, magic, tricks, etc. The problem is some Nigerians, after a little half-baked education, deny these facts out of ignorance and the urge to appear "modern" on the internet. 1 Like |

kennygee: Very nice definition. Witchcraft is simply Manipulation. Making people do what you want through unwholesome but non criminal methods. When Peter was advising Jesus, saying, master no you won't die, Jesus looked at him and replied, " GO THEE BEHIND ME SATAN ".. When people force their beliefs on others it is simply WITCHCRAFT.. It is same way they use to impose wicked wishes on gullible people. Anything someone does not do willingly is NOT acceptable to God. Jesus emphasized this repeatedly. |

CzarChris: The world slavery is not of African origin, neither is ritual nor murder but I doubt you want to be subjected to any of those or actively participate in it. A practice or belief is wrong if it is irrational, right or wrong doesn't depend on where it originates. |
