Pereira is not a proper central midfielder, he operates best as a wide midfielder or as a central attacking midfielder aka no 10. His inability to track back effectively means that the no 10 role will most likely be his best position in the future. Therefore I don't think his progress in the team when he returns will be affected by Scott's impressive run.

I share your sentiment about Pereira though, going on loan was a poor decision. Coupled with the lacklustre performances of Mhki and the inability of Jesse "headless chicken" Lingard in connecting the midfield and attack effective would have given Pereira some game time in the team.

I hope McTominay can improve his game further by learning from Matic and Carrick, keep things simple at this point, understand the need to guard space instead of getting pulled by the ball (he made this mistake against Benfica on numerous occasions) and finally take some risks by hitting forward passes instead of the Herrera esque sideways passing game. Scott is actually one of the tallest guys in the team so he improves our physicality when defending and attacking corners.

Perreira plays mostly on the Wing at Valencia. He was playing on the left wing at the beginning of the Season, but in their last Match, he played on the right Wing.

I hope he continues developing his Game on the right Wing, and hopefully comes back to fix the RW Problem the Team is having this Season.

I think he already knows it will be difficult for him to play Matches for United as an AM, DM or CM, hence going out on Loan to develop himself as a Winger ain't a bad Decision in my Opinion.
