I haven't studied much - Issues with electricity mainly. I don't want to waste my 50K. Kindly advise me if its ok to write the exam 6th December, can I meet up with next years admission?. Your advise and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

How can I reshedule the date. I cant find the option.

Since you believe you're not ready, its best you reschedule. But I should ask, hope you know the deadline for applications on the schools you're targeting. If its not Dec 15, go ahead.

My two cents.

Hello scholars,
I sent an email to a professor for a graduate assistantship position. I got this email in return :
"Thank you for your interest in my research and lab group. At this stage, I am still in the first stage of evaluating the pool of applicants for the position. I will keep you posted about how things evolve, and whether I think it’s worthwhile to apply for the position. It may make sense to have a phone or skype conversation at that point. Thanks for your interest"
I was trying to interpret what he meant. Does it mean I should be preparing towards an interview or something?. Thank you
Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by frostsc: 9:19am On Nov 02, 2017
No you do not need the passport to register for the exam but you need it on the test date as it is the only means of identification accepted.

Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Quoran: 9:43am On Nov 02, 2017
From what I can deduce, some people have applied for the position already. He is trying to get the best from among the pool of applicants. He is not certain whether he will select one of them or not.If he does, you won't need to apply. However, he is still open to talk with you and probably hear from you. He probably wants to assess your ideas and all. I reckon he wants to go through the stress of accessing many applicants because he wants the best applicant to join his lab. Ask him for a Skype interview and give your best. You never can know.

Good day all, I planned to take my tests initially in December but due to my inadequate preparation I had to postpone it till January. I just finished reading through this wonderful thread and I perceive there is a general conception that writing the exam next year is too late for fall 2018, I thought I have an ample amount of time. Can I still get schools to apply to next year or I have to target 2019? which is scary, considering the fact that I'm not getting any younger ...please bosses in the house advise me appropriately.
Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Quoran: 12:34pm On Nov 02, 2017
You can still get schools to apply to. The only issue is that it might be late for funding. Search online and you will get them. Oregon state university for example have a deadline of January 15th. I'm sure there are many others like that though most of them have a general deadline of December 15th.

While we wait for positive feedbacks from all GRE test takers today, Let me quickly identify myself as one of those people. I gave it a trial again today at JKK. I think I saw the score coming. My preparation has been so erratic due to work pressure. I just have to write this and let it off my mind. GRE is all about enough practice and dedication. However I never have luxury of such. I believe my score truly belie my academic capability and i must find a way to defend that in my SOP. How I wish I could have the time, its achievable but I know I dont have it.So I have to make do with the little time I have.

So I had my GRE today at Galaxy Uniprep Abuja. Please note my post is a bit weird relative of the typical GRE experience. I decided to take the GRE sometime last year searched online and saw this forum, I was inspired by great scores here to all my bosses I hail.

Now to my experience I paid for my GRE around August with walspring's GRE discount Boss I'm definitely grateful for this. Preparation became intense after that though I had gone through a few materials sometime last year I had to revisit each one. I used the Manhattan 8 Series Great Book for Quant, and the Princeton review for Verbal Scholastica16 recommended this, thanks Boss it was helpful. I had gone through the Ets material both quant and verbal before I paid for the exam so I decided to delve into other resources. I watched the magoosh premium videos, those I could get my hands on twice. I definitely recommend that also, for the lesson videos I only went through relevant math topics I had issues with, combination, probability and counting and word problems.

Forward to a month before my exam I systemically went through the Manhattan flash cards the quant was extremely useful the verbal on the other hand had a plethora of words though they may not exactly be GRE esque. You might want to revise well, I think I revised each material I read well like twice or thrice for the ets materials.

I tool the powerprep II and the ets paper test in the week leading to my test, scores were within the range of 325-332, let me chime in here the quant in paper section seemed to easy I didn't have any problem with all question except 1, while I made a few mistakes in the power prep.

Exam day, I consider myself a staid person, so I was pretty relaxed maybe too relaxed, after check in procedures that took almost an hour. The essays were easy to tackle, I had VQVQV the quants didn't seem as hard as I expected maybe the Manhattan prep had raised my level, I guess I made a few mistakes though because I expected a better quant score. Reported my scores 162V 164Q 326, maybe I used easy a lot in my post don't mind me, and surprisingly after the exams I was not tired. Thanks to everyone that has contributed to this story and if you haven't gone through the forum from page 1 until date you're missing a lot of valuable information.

Sent my scores to four schools
Purdue, Pennstate, Louisiana state university and University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Magnificent!

Please, do you mind dropping personal hints/strategies you apply on the verbal section of the GRE test, that of course take into account accuracy and a steady pace?

Thanks

The text completion strategy was basically about looking for hints in the passage sometimes I skipped a whole chunk of words I knew didn't give any hint how? Something like "the tropical rainforest bird then a weird long name" so basically reading relevant parts to get the overall hint, I had to read some twice before I understood them though you would have time for that don't worry.

The sentence completion I followed the magoosh strategy looking for synonyms either strong or weak the words should be similar to an extent, and definitely they should complete the sentence and make meanings that are not contradictory to what the sentence is trying to portray.

Reading Comprehension on the other hand can be pretty cool, just make sure you are looking for the nuances in the passage and asking active questions like why did the author just tell us something and then say however this might not hold true, what purpose does the 2nd paragraph play in relation to the whole passage, do I understand the reason why the passage was written, you might want to leave the longer passages for last so you have enough time to do this. Your Vocab should be good enough though it makes the whole thing easy. Let me just say that after reading nytimes, the newyorker, the Atlantic and what have you those passages never seem boring, someone here recommended three articles a day, you could go with that too. I hope I was helpful though.

First off, I wish to thank everyone who has posted and commented in one capacity or the other on this forum. Without you, this would not have been a reality. I stumbled on this forum by chance and at which time, I knew nothing about the GRE or study abroad. Of course I knew that people do study abroad, but I was not too cognitive of the process and all until I got here and was inspired by the various success stories.

Like my fore fathers here, I registered with B.Y Mafit and that was the singular wise choice I made cos everything revolves around them. I attended the free TOEFL and Free GRE classes. Got the Magoosh account, Kaplan Text, Official Guide and other materials given during lectures and group studies. Took the TOEFL classes for a month and the GRE classes for 6 weeks. Though free, they were very very vigorous. Wrote the TOEFL first. I'll share that experience another time since this is a GRE forum. I scored 110 though (There was a guy at Mafit who scored 115. Couldn't beat that target embarassed ). I did not read lots of textbooks. I just used the classes as my main study and did the additional practice recommended by our instructor (Enitan). Since that worked, I decided to use that principle for the GRE and it worked as well.

Wrote my GRE amidst lots of tension. The night before, I could not sleep. God punish tension cheesy . Had running stomach on the day of the exam and I started reciting all the psalms I could munster. grin grin grin . Was great though. The group discussions at Mafit helped, as we were fond of dealing with very difficult analytical questions. My advice is that while preparing, do not scratch the surface. Go really really deep. The more complex questions you tackle, the faster it would be to tackle the easier ones. Also, be true and sincere with yourself. For me, after I registered with BY Mafit, I didnt pick a date till I was well into the lectures and knew exactly what time I needed to be fully ready.

At the end, I scored 164 on the verbal and 162 on the quant. I know of a guy at Mafit (Dada) who scored 166 and 158 respectively. I already mailed my school and I was told I have the chances of getting full funding. I have sent other documents to them prior to this.

Once again, thank you all for helping nudge me in the right path. Now lets wait for the final decision on funding and start fasting so the VO will be nice grin grin . I sent this to Mafit to post but I guess they didn't so I had to sign up to post it myself. My advice for everyone would be to be focused and have a clear target and pursue it vigorously. Also, set aside everything to focus on this. It means a lot and it could change your life story.

Great Scores!!! Weldone!!!!....
