My thoughts, male lion are only friendly to their maternal brothers. So I doubt this is true sexual intimacy. Brothers are extremely affectionate (not sexual) because they need to work together to take over prides and defend them.

When true intercourse occurs the male usually holds the female's head in his mouth and female usually reacts aggressively as he withdraws as their penis is designed to cause a sharp pen on withdrawal.
