Kanu blasts cash wins games in NNL, alleges govt clubs bully private clubs

November 5, 2017

Nwankwo Kanu has raised serious concerns over the officiating in the second-tier Nigeria National League (NNL), alleging that clubs owned by government have the cash to get more favourable refereeing than a team like Papilo FC, who he bankrolls .

He told SCORENigeria that privately owned clubs like his are being muscled out by the financially heavyweight government clubs, saying that development is not good for the league and football generally in Nigeria.

“It has been a very difficult journey in terms of results as regards officiating,” former Nigeria captain Kanu said.

“What I see in this league is that if you have enough money, then you can win games.

“And if it so, there is no need for us trying to invest and bringing up a team.

“This is because if you bring up a good team, here I’m talking about going to the grassroot to help the young ones to come up and perform.

“And if these young ones are not being encouraged by officiating, then it means we are going back to square one.

“Because for me, it is always good to play on an open environment where officiating will not favour or negatively affect any club.

“And this is not good for football and the league. That is the greatest problem that we do have”.

Kanu also informed SCORENigeria that his former club Arsenal are not involved in the running of his pet team, Papilo FC.

The former Gunner and ex Super Eagles captain said contrary speculations, he has no assistance from the North London club.

“Papilo FC are not into any deal with Arsenal,” he told SCORENigeria

“We don’t wear Arsenal jersey. When you talk of Arsenal, you talk of Kanu because I played for Arsenal and I’m also an Arsenal Legend.

“I’ve also been following Arsenal.

“But in terms of we having anything to do with Arsenal in terms of sponsorship or kitting endorsement, no, there is nothing like that.

“If we do, I won’t be here complaining. Perhaps, that could be on the way in future, you never can tell, but for now, they are not involved even in our academy or the football club.

“I’m the one running the club and the academy”.

Ndidi started out as a CB though..

goldfish80:

He relies on his tall legs to bail him out of tackles. If he was a foot shorter, he would have been sent off more than a couple of times.

As for getting a look in from big clubs, he could well get a look in but he will be deployed at CB not DM. Top clubs like DMs with good ball distribution and this has been Ndidi's weakest arsenal. His passing has a lot to be desired.
I think he could develop into a fine CB ala Vincent Kompany (who played as a DM during his days at Hamburg).

I think the point was that the NNL had more realistic results than the NPFL. Being better does not mean it is perfect. Is it not Nigeria again.

Gent Winger Moses Simon Loses Fitness Battle, Withdraws From Nigeria Squad
Published: November 05, 2017

Gent Winger Moses Simon Loses Fitness Battle, Withdraws From Nigeria SquadAllnigeriasoccer.com has been informed that exciting winger Moses Simon has become the latest player to withdraw from the Super Eagles squad, as he has joined Changchun Yatai F.C frontman Odion Ighalo in the treatment room.

The availability of the Gent star had been questionable after he picked up a foot injury in training, before Friday night's game vs Standard Liege.

Simon's injury has been assessed by Gent's medics and they have advised him not to travel to Africa and Russia for the World Cup qualifier against Algeria and the international friendly against Argentina.

''Moses Simon won't be available for the games against Algeria and Argentina due to the foot injury,'' a top source close to the Gent number 27 told allnigeriasoccer.com.

With Chelsea dazzler Victor Moses not named in the latest roster due to a hamstring complaint, Simon was in line to start his fourth straight game in the World Cup qualifiers against the Desert Foxes.

Manager Gernot Rohr is also sweating on the fitness of Trabzonspor midfielder Eddy Onazi, while John Ogu and Leon Balogun have not featured for their clubs in the last three matches because of concerns over their fitness.

No, the new coach was the team B coach. Uzoho former coach. He decided that Uzoho was too young and did not speak spanish.

Exactly what I was saying then.

He needs to learn Spanish and fast. As a GK he won't have it any other way.

Thank God, he's still young, at his age I was fluently speaking 4 languages already.

Mickael2, like most football analysts, I think you're underestimating the level of Nigerian players due to the football clubs they play or do not play for. A few years ago I published an article in a Naija daily regarding a peculiar Nigerian perspectives in football.

Take this for instance, when the Nigerian U-23 team lined up at the China Olympics soccer event final, the profile of the players could not have been more different from their Argentine counterparts:

At CD Argentina had Ezekiel Garay of Real Madrid, Nigeria had Dele Adeleye from the bench of dutch basement club Sparta Rotterdam. Just over a year ago, he was at Shooting Stars, oscillating between Division 1 and 2.

At LB, with the responsibility of marking the dreaded Leo Messi; yes Lionel Messi of Barcelona, was Chibuzor Okonkwo from Bayelsa United, a right footed player converted to LB.

In CM, where Argentina had Riquelme, Gago and Mascherano, arguably the best DM in the world at that time, Nigeria presented Ebenezer Ajilore of Mydjtilland and from the bench at Sparta, Sanni Kaita. A few years ago, Ajilore plied his trade at Ebiede Babes, a Lagos youth club.

But as the game unfolded, the confidence of the Nigerian players and the cautious approach their opponents showed, belied the reputation and CV of Argentina's players.

This effectively proved two things, if you can believe it:

(i) that the club status of the Nigerian players does not accurately reflect their real quality; and that

(ii) a new measure is urgently required to determine the quality of our players; one that is not entirely dependent on the judgement of European club managers whose philosophy of the game and needs, vis a vis their clubs, may not necessarily be in alignment with the development of the average Nigerian player, or the SE.

What is objectivity? Statistics is the easiest way to be objective.

Leicester has not done too well but based on stats. Ndidi is the top tackler in the league. That is what DMs do.
OK my arguement is this how can a best tackler and most dribbled DM that almost make the worst XI of the season is the best DM in EPL.

Am not trying to slack the guy but based on a comment by a moniker that he is the best and goldfish80 post made me to conclude that he is not the best DM in EPL presently.

Agreed the best tackler but if you have any info that made him the best DM,honestly i w keep quiet and learn from it.

DEPORTIVO LA CORUNA
COACH – WHY EAGLES
NEWBIE UZOHO WAS
DEMOTED TO B TEAM

Coach of Spanish La-Liga side Deportivo La
Coruna has explained the reason why newly
invited Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Odinaka
Uzoho was demoted to the B team of the La-
Liga outfit.
Uzoho kept goal in back to back La-Liga game
under sacked coach Pepe Mel but since the
appointment of Cristobal Parralo in caretaker
capacity Uzoho has failed to make the
matchday squad.
Parralo has settled for the experienced duo of
Przemyslaw Tyton and Costel Pantilimon, while
the Nigerian has been demoted back to the B
team who are campaigning in the third division
in Spain.

” The team is in a difficult situation right now,
and the coach feels it’s not the RIGHT TIME TO
THROW IN AN 18 YEAR old AT THE DEEP END”,
Spanish journalist Jonas told
Owngoalnigeria.com.

” He was asked about the demotion of Uzoho, I
think in one of his pre match conference shortly
after Uzoho was called up to the senior national
team of Nigeria and his explanation was same
like I said EARLIER.

” AT 18 HE HAS DONE WELL TO PROGRESS TO THE FIRST TEAM AFTER JUST SIX MONTHS MONTHS AT THE CLUB , NICE FOOTWORK AND GOOD REFLEXES BUT LANGUAGE IS A BIG BARRIER FOR HIM , because his Spanish isn’t UP THERE YET, and as you know COMMUNICATION IS KEY BETWEEN GOALKEEPER and DEFENDERS".

Roundup‎: Eduok, Aluko, Henty, Umar On Target, Uzoho Absent Again

onlinenigeria.com

Nov 5, 2017 11:20 AM

[b]By Johnny Edward: Nigerian forward, Emem Eduok, scored his second goal of the season for Kasimpasa who played out a 2-2 draw at home to Bursaspor parading William Troost Ekong and Mikel Agu from the starting line-up.

The strike ended Eduok’s goal drought of seven games for Kasimpasa. The Nigeria international last scored a goal for Kasimpasa on match day 1 in their 3-1 win over Alanyaspor in August.

His compatriot, Kenneth Omeruo featured for all 90 minutes in his eight appearance of the season for the club.

William Troost Ekong, on his part, played the entire duration of the encounter which was his 12th of the campaign, scoring twice. Mikel Agu was replaced at half time by Cristóbal Jorquera.

At the Kadir Has Stadium, in Kayseri, Ogenyi Onazi was substituted in his seventh Turkish League appearance f.or Trabzonpsor in their goalless draw against Kayserispor. José Sosa replaced the Nigeria vice captain in the 41st minute of the draw. Onazi has scored one goal so far this term.

Still in Turkey, Aminu Umar salvaged a point for Osmanlispor FK who drew 1-1 at home to Fenerbahce. The Nigeria international scored an 89th minute equaliser to earn his relegation battling side their second draw of the season. It was his second goal in 11 leagues appearances in Turkey.

Osmanlispor FK moved out of the bottom of the Turkish Super Lig table (18th position) for the first time this season, to 17th. His compatriot, Raheem Lawal played for 86 before he was replaced by Payam Sadeghian in his eight start of the season.

In the English Football League Championship, Nigerian forward Sone Aluko scored his second goal of the season in his 10th league appearance for Reading who outscored Derby County 4-2 away on Saturday.

The win sees Reading move to 18th position on 18 points in the English Championship league table. It was back-to-back wins for Reading following their win against Forest four days earlier..

Ola Aina bagged his first yellow card of the season in his 15th appearance for Hull City who lost 4-1 away to Sheffield United. Leon Clarke scored a double brace. The defeat saw Hull drop into the relegation zone for the first time this season.

In the Spanish LaLiga Santander, Nigerian goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, was not in the matchday squad for Deportivo La Coruna who lost 1-0 at home to Atletico Madrid. It was the second consecutive game he missed.

The 18-year-old goalkeeper has started two LaLiga games, where he conceded two goals, but he has not featured in Deportivo’s last two matches.

In the German Bundesliga, Leon Balogun was an unused substitute for Mainz 05 in Saturday’s 1-1 draw away at Borussia Monchengladbach. Balogun has made four appearances this season for Mainz 05.

Kelechi Nwakali made his eight appearance for VVV Venlo who were forced to a goalless draw at home to NAC Breda in the Dutch Eredivisie. Nwakali has scored once since joining on loan from Arsenal.

In Hungary, Nigerian striker Ezekiel Henty, bagged his fifth league goal for Videoton who thumped Mezokovesd 4-0 to move up to the top of the Hungarian OTP Bank Liga on Saturday..

It was Henty’s third goal in three consecutive league matches, and his seventh across all competitions this season since joining from Locomotiv Moscow.

Henty doubled his side’s lead in the 16th minute of the encounter after Danko Lazovic opened scoring in the seventh minute. The former AC Milan forward who saw 62 minutes of action was replaced on the hour mark by Krisztiann Geresi.

In the Belgian Jupilier League, Abdul Ajagun was on for 61 minutes for Kortrijk who lost 2-0 to KV Mechelen. The former U-17 and U-20 midfielder was replaced by Jovan Stojanovic in his 14th league appearance this season. He has scored twice..

Also in Belgium, Taiwo Awoniyi fired blanks playing all 90 minutes for Royal Excel Mouscron who lost 2-0 to Waasland-Beveren. It was the fifth straight game the former U-17, U-20 and U23 forward has failed to score.

In the Scottish Championship, Efe Ambrose made his 13th league appearance for Hibernian who defeated Dundee FC 2 – 1 on Saturday. Ambrose is yet to score froom his defensive duties this season.

Super Eagles star Shehu Abdullahi captains Anorthosis Famagusta

today.ng

Nov 5, 2017 9:08 AM

Super Eagles’ Shehu Abdullahi has been elevated to the role of captain at his Cypriot club Anorthosis Famagusta.

Abdullahi wore the armband in their 5-1 thrashing of Olympiakos Nicosia which took them to the top of the league in Cyprus, a point more than second place AEK Lamaca who have however played a game less.

Linked with a move away from the team in January, Abdullahi was on for the entire duration of the game, which was his last before he joins the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Morocco, where they will camp for their upcoming games against Algeria and Argentina.

While a move away from Anorthosis Famagusta looks likely in January, the club are however confident of holding onto the 24 year old until the summer, even though he will be a free agent after the World Cup.

For now there has been no talks about a contract extension which has further swelled talks about a potential move away from the club in January, as they will want to cash in on him now than lose him for free in the summer.

Nigerian striker Peter Olayinka said he was racially abused by a ball boy during a UEFA Europa League group tie at Vitesse Arnhem Thursday night.

Olayinka’s Belgian club Zulte-Waregem won 2-0 at Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem last night.

A shocked Olayinka told reporters after the match: “The little boy abused me ‘stupid, black idiot, black idiot’ after which he started laughing in my face.”

The KAA Gent loanee was angered by this abuse.

It was also a game where the tall striker’s compatriot Kingsley Madu was sent off after just 22 minutes for a second booking.
