I've dealt long enough with humans to know that in as much as the gossip tag is more often than not attached to the female gender, such traits are not limited to gender factor. It's actually more about your personality and the type of people you mingle with.
During my undergraduate days in a male populated department, we the girls were learners compared to the guys once it comes to the pretence and fake acts. Infact all of the scandals that rocked my department then were from the male folks.
Heck!! I was actually a victim in my final year.

You listed some scandals that rocked NL where the ladies were the brains behind that. Are you trying to tell me you don't as much as have a matching record where the males were the brains behind the fall outs?

I put it up to you that for every female name you mentioned then, you have a corresponding male name that did same if not worse but somehow you prefer padding and stuffing the truth.


Nairaland has afforded us much anonymity that some fellows can't help but display their stupidity and foolishness. Someone who can't walk up to you on a normal day to spew thrash would suddenly have the effrontery to insult you to your face and spread rumors about you just because they have that privilege to sit behind the screen and type away.

I frequent diaries and believe me at some point there were so much stories going around behind the screen and guess the brains behind it..
I was once active on an edition of the miss NL contest where a WhatsApp campaign group was created. The hate there towards NL members that weren't in the group is something I can't describe. Right there in that group you'll find one or two persons that are actually loyal to those been slandered. You do have an idea what will eventually go down if those loyalists leave the group and get back to their friends.

I repeat!! It's no gender thing. Same way we have the sane male folks, there are as much as sane female folks all around.

I've made cool few male friends on NL that I wouldn't even hesitate saying a yes to if things were to go down in that direction. I've had a good number ask me out and looking at it critically, they'll be worth it.
Have I sauntered online to yap about it or maybe carry their stories around? Do I even have the time for such?

Infact I've not had an offline encounter with any of romance section Lords. I don't think I ever will with the scandals been raised up, down, left, right and center.

At the end everything boils down to been wary of the person you let into your inner circle. Let everything that happens online stay online. Everyone is a suspect until proven otherwise.

Well, I think people are known to be deceptive on Nairaland as some carry malicious intent. You have to keep your guard up and follow safe rules before getting entangled with the opposite sex because some are childish, trolls and untrustworthy, so too much trusting is not advisable.

Despite the level of blackmail, shaming and other evil perpetuated here, Nairaland is still a great place to meet good people and it is quite possible to create meaningful relationships here and gain a sense of
who they are in person, just that you have to be safe, cautious and keep it on a low key otherwise it can be potentially dangerous as well.

There are so many assholes here and it's not a gender specific thing here. There are people you need to try as much as possible to keep distance away from.

As for the ladies

Avoid accepting inappropriate or unsolicited friend requests from guys here because guys online can easily pretend to be people they aren't. Sadly, there are thousands of sketchy people here posing to be nice unassuming people looking for friendships or relationships. Some of them only will want you to open up, divulge secrets about your personal life and guess what? They will be used against you when a quarrel ensues.

We have recorded cases when intimate pictures were leaked just to shame the other person, so ladies need to very careful and mindful of the type of guys will either want to date or be friends with.

As for the guys

Avoid getting close or divulging private informing to most of these girls who form cliques here as it can pose a great danger. Please know that these ladies have nothing spectacular going in their lives, so all they do is open a whatsapp group where they table discuss people's matters. When they have your personal information, it becomes a group discussion in the absence of nothing to discuss.

Also, when you have interest in a lady, kindly notice and observe well if she has cliques or she's the type that is always fond of quoting some specific people here. If she's guilty of any, it will do you a lot of good to back off in order not to soil your self esteem

People need to be wise.

I'm not so good keeping up with stats like this cos to a large extent I don't know when such goes down. Most time I'm always late and the mods would have wiped traces off.

There's this one that happened recently tho and I was actively involved cos somehow I already got a pm from the guy but for some reasons it wasn't replied to. So when I stumbled upon his rants online, I had to go dig up his email to caution him offline. I don't want to Start mentioning names right now.

I just didn't like the fact that Tsom statements were too harsh against the female folks, granted he might be right about the females but look how the males were painted demi gods.
I know better than to shame the guys here. It's not a struggle between the gender, at all! Can never be.
