@OlowoB , I've learnt a lot from your posts and I can see that it's difficult to stay permanently after studying in UK as an international student. That means getting a Tier 2 visa from another country would definitely be harder since students who studied in their country find it difficult to get a job after graduation. Am I right?

I will use the word challenging and not harder but nothing is impossible (I believe in prayers, grace, favour etc). If you get a job from a company that sponsors international students, they will do all for you and you will stay back. There are still some people who do get jobs in UK, infact a friend just got a job and he studied in Caledonian university. I am only preparing people’s mind to the reality on ground that the chances are small. Students need to be strategic, chose the right school and course and apply very very early.

Find out sectors they need people here in UK, also find out which schools in that particular sector that most companies in UK recruit from..... that is a way to go about it. Some schools have the name, so you will just be left with getting a good grade and then it will be much more easier.

For example, If you want an oil and gas job in UK and you are thinking of studying in Scotland, then as a student, you have to first of all consider university of Aberdeen so as to get better chances. A graduate from uni of Aberdeen stand better chance than a graduate from UWS, Caledonian and even Strathclyde in the oil and gas sector.

I hope I answered your question.

For those already in UK, apply early, those coming in January, this is not to discourage you but rather plan ahead and put it in prayers before you come to UK, that God should settle your case

Also please try and find the username umarwy, he gave some useful suggestions on finding work and staying back if you are studying in UK. Please read that post. Please check page 251

You should be aware that you can't use Swansea university's CAS for Coventry university. However, I would suggest you look January entry window, if any of these universities offer this option.

when is swansea university resuming? Don't you think classes would have begun?

Yes i Know i can't use Swansea Cas for coventry. Swansea wants to issue another CAS for January intake if i pass the administrative review which i have submitted some weeks ago. So i was thinking now that i have Coventry Admission, should i go on with payment so i can get the CAS?

When is Coventry going to resume? If I get you correctly, you must have made payment to Swansea before now, have they returned your money? Why don’t you wait for the decision of the AR before making another payment To Coventry ?

If the AR turns positive, what will happen to your money with Swansea? You need to know their return policy when it comes to cash paid and visa granted so your money does not hang......some schools will not give you back your money if visa has been granted or they may take some percentage out of it.... and it could even take time to return money.... these schools like collecting money but before they give you back, na war .....please find out from Swansea o....

If Coventry will resume maybe middle or late January, I will say chill to know the AR decision with regards to Swansea. Since you applied for AR weeks ago, you should get the decision before the end of this month.

What I will just suggest is to have your money ready in the bank so that your 28 days would have been sorted out and then you can make the decision on which school to go for by last week of this month or 1st week in December . Even if the AR does not go in your favour (God forbid) you will just get your cas easily from Coventry cos your 28 days and money for initial deposit of school fees is available

I don’t know about Scotland but my friends here working the whole care Job in England work way more than 20hrs but on their payslip, it only says 20hrs with an astronomical per hour rate. I don’t know how they did it, I didn’t do it. I know people who paid their entire masters fee on their own with that. Their grade suffered a bit but then they pulled through. Nothing is impossible, you just have to ask the right questions and the city you end up determines a whole lot. If i was you, i will do as much research about the city the school as in.

To be honest, people do more than 20 hours but it is illegal and this thread preaches “legality”.

For someone just entering into a new city, you must not say such so that he does not end up thinking it will also be like that for him and it is even risky.

It worked out for your friends does not mean it will work that way for him. Trust me, I have lived here long enough and I know all the “runs” that is happening and still happens but you will never see me advicing such cos it is better they come to UK having the money with them than to think they will be able to do side or cash jobs and then get stranded if the jobs don’t come in.

If the side jobs or cash jobs comes in along the line, then good luck, but the advice should always be, come prepared with money.

Your friends broke / are breaking the law.
If the law eventually catches up with then, that is when you will hear folks ranting about “their village people haff start”.

Your friends are lawbreakers.
And that should be discouraged completely.

Have your friends finished their programs? During summer, students are allowed to do so but not during academic calendar.

Both your friends and the care company are taking illegality route. Hours you worked should reflect on your payslips, standard hours + over-time hours. But, in this case, 20hrs is nonstandard hours, this should allow pension and work dept cut their tax from it.

Coventry resumption date is around January but what i really don't know is if Swansea would refund my money if eventually the AR comes positive. After my refusal they sent me refund form to fill and send back to them but my agent was able to convince them and infact they were about to issue to Second CAS but we did AR already.
Coventry is willing to help with student-visiting VISA. They said I would stay for 6 months in school and then renew my Visa because of the credibility test i failed at first.

I get all ya'll points. i understand the need to come here with your finances in order to avoid any problems. i understand it is breaking the law and i get it comes with consequences and i am not advising such. All i am saying is one way or the other, i have seen people do it. Yes it is not right and not legal and i don't know the fine prints enough to know exactly how it works out but yes i have seen it. I am just tying to say it is not at all impossible (even tho illegal and frowned upon). we aren't all born with a silver spoon and we don't all have people to help. i mean if he makes the choice and gets caught, he alone will suffer the consequences but if he takes that action and he is not hurting anybody (except maybe himself) in the process, I personally don't have any moral objection to it. Again i cannot stress this enough, i know it is illegal and I didn't do it cos i have a mother and a GF who were instrumental but then not everyone has a support system in place.

You still don’t get the point, don’t ever give such examples, let people find that out themselves else you will give false hopes. Imagine if you say it is possible to do more than 20 hours during term time and so he puts all his hopes on that and then gets to UK and he is unable to pay his school fees via that route and he ends up not getting jobs when he comes, what happens? He may be forced to become an illegal immigrant or end up marrying white woman and hence, destroying his destiny (I have seen many of such cases).

I did not come from a wealthy home, I struggled to pay my fees, I mean struggled big time so I know wassup.

Confession time

When I first came to UK years back as a student, I did more than 20 hours (I would not even lie about it), infact I did it through agencies. Agencies gave me jobs more than 20hoirs, I kept on doing them even though my visa wrote it clearly that they were only permitted to give me 20hours. It worked for me and I got away with it does not mean it will work for you... my head is different from yours, the reason why I can never ask anyone to do such. Things have even changed now. Yes some students still do it BUT I will never advice such.

If you want to do more than 20 hours as a student

If you want to do this, you must be attending church regularly so that you meet people and advertise what you do. Be street smart, go out and meet people.

please make sure it is cash jobs. If you are an electrician, carpenter, hair dresser, Painter, can edit or proof read dissertations, church drummer, stay at home with kids or pick kids up from school, tailor etc you will get cash from these jobs and make extra cash to support your official 20 hours but I don’t like saying this too much so that people don’t get their hopes up high thinking they can pay school fees via these jobs.

Guess what, just last week, I went to take measurement for a native cloth that will be sown from Nigeria (I needed to send the measurement to naija). The girl who is a PHD student in Caledonian collected £10 just to take my measurement (lasted less than 5 minutes).

At the moment in UK, don’t try working more than 20 hours via agencies or via bank payments

Currently, I know some agencies that willl even write to your school to be sure you have good attendance in school before they register or give you job. For example, Brightworks in Glasgow will never give you a job as a student until they write to your school. In fact they even have a compliance officer that works with the home office to make sure the agency does not give any student more than 20hours.

ASA another top agency in Glasgow at the moment don’t even Register students except you already registered with them long tine ago. They will tell you, we don’t have jobs for students and when they do, you can never exceed 20hours.

This thread promotes legality and that is students should do 20 hours during term time.

Now i get your point. Like i said, i know it is illegal and i won't advise anyone to do it. What i said earlier is just me putting it out that so he or whoever wants to know will know there is no black and white to it. There are grey but illegal areas where if you get away with it, it will probably all work out in the end. Again i am not advising him to do it.

Also, what's 'destiny ruining' about marrying a white woman. i mean marrying anyone for the wrong reasons can ruin your destiny but c'mon brother!!!!!

Anyways, i just said what i said because it is something i have seen. i dont know how it works nor do i have contacts for it, i never did it, would never advise anyone to bank their hope on it and am not advising anyone to do it.

What I mean by destiny runining is;

I have seen people who come to UK and get stranded (they can’t pay school fees anymore) they then listen to bad advice and become illegal or let’s say that will be their only option cos they cannot afford to leave UK and go back to naija empty handed.

They change adress, no bank account anymore and they start looking for white babe to get pregnant or get married to. During this process, they cannot leave the country, they will search and search, na them go club pass, they will get white woman pregnant and then hire lawyer when the babe gives birth to try and get papers for themselves (21/2 if she is British or 5 years if she is EU).

In all this, the education that made them come to UK has been abandoned, no certificate and trust me, you do g want to see how frustrating or frustrated this people look..... it is a bad experience and yes it can Ruin one’s destiny. Someone I know came in as a student, till today has no certificate to his name ( he currently has 21/2 years but he regrets that Decision till date). Do you even know how many years it took him to get that 21/2 years?

Well I am not in a position to say ones destiny is ruined, I think I should have used “it alters ones destiny”

Bros I don’t mean marrying a white lady will ruin your destiny just like that grin

Also find out if Swansea will give your money back if AR turns positive and you end up not coming again to the school.

The most important, pray that God should direct you, I can only advice as a mortal being based on how far I can see and my perceptions but God knows the end from the beginning

Not having a support system in place is NOT a justification for Illegality>>

The most important, pray that God should direct you, I can only advice as a mortal being based on how far I can see and my perceptions but God knows the end from the beginning
Oh ok i will wait and keep praying..Thanks...I hope to share my testimony here soon.

How will you be advising someone i his planning stage, and you offer an advise that is illegal?
Not having a support system in place is NOT a justification for Illegality>>
Thank you

I am guessing you can read so i will just point you to the numerous times i wrote that i am not advising anyone to do anything, what i did was just point out something i have seen (again, i am counting on your ability to read, absorb information and make reasonable conclusions).

Besides, it is easy to sit and type about what is illegal and what is not and act you haven't done or approved of any questionable action done for the right reasons. especially when you not hurting anyone

Your “pointing out something you have seen” was a DIRECT response to a brother who sought advice on this forum.
It goes to mean you were “opening his eyes” to the available options, and you included the Illegal option in the options.
That is WRONG.

You were not simply writing down your musings or your observations. Someone needed help and sought for that help on this forum. You would do well to provide counselling/suggestions within the ambit of the law.

So the law is not broken when you “are not hurting anyone”?
Sorry Bro, your understanding in this regard is faulty.

sorry, what do you mean by bottlenecks please?
LaaJiblik:

These sounds great!

I would encourage that for anyone going for studies in the UK, the person should concentrate MORE on the studies, rather than the Job side.

As for your submission that POST-STUDY provision exist, I wish you should also highlight the bottlenecks too.

Oh Man,you carry harmmer come!!!? i dey fear you ooo but gaskia you are just being realistic
Thanks
LaaJiblik:

'To be precise, he said the fee is 15,000' - Did he show you how and where he got those figures from?

'And am entitled (really??) to 3000 pounds scholarship for first year' - You saw that on the Admission letter?

'I will have to pay 3500 pounds from naija' £3500 = N1,691,530 Do you already have that?

'I presently earn nothing' - Do you have an idea how much accommodation cost is, in Edinburgh?

'if I start working the 20 hours during school I will be saving up for the following year' - Do you have a rough estimate of HOW MUCH you will be earning in those 20 hours per week jobs?

You are too LAZY to search for yourself (I wonder how you hope to cope with the fast-paced learning environment in Scotland) and have to rely on an agent for the most basic of things (and to think that its not because you are busy working - as according to you, " why I eve considered this is because I presently earn nothing"wink.
If i was close to you, I for find cane flog your bum bum. But as a Good Christian that I am, let me help your lazy self.
