Upon all of the tithes they pay, none of them is as rich as Dangote. I'll give my money to those in need. Let God judge me for giving my money to those in need instead of someone who collects tithes in the name of God but spends like Pontius Pilate. 13 Likes

Exempted: Tithing isn't wrong. There was no commandment when Abraham gave the first tithe the Bible ever recorded. It was done out of his free will. But nowadays, pastors indirectly makes giving of tithe a compulsion. Truth is, you might never accept it but 90% of the people that pay tithe today pay it out of the fear that if they don't pay it, they are robbing God. Truth is, who can rob God? No one! 90% of the people that pay it today pay it cox they fear they don't wanna be cursed which was what Pastor Adeboye said.. "Divine curse". Imagine? Divine curse? I won't serve a God that would curse me, no matter what I do! You might not accept it but you pay tithe today because it has been infused in you from the beginning that when you don't pay, the devourer won't be rebuked for your sake. 10 Likes |

God’s people of the New Covenant are NOT called to be tithers, they are called to be “generous givers.” Is it wrong to tithe? Absolutely not. It is simply not a requirement under the New Covenant. Many of you may be shocked at this revelation. But, the truth is often shocking. Particularly, when it goes against everything that you have been taught. And the truth is, you have not been taught the whole truth. In The Truth About Tithing, Part I, it was unveiled that one part of the Law of tithing allowed the people of Israel to redeem or get back some of their tithes if they wanted it. This was stated in Leviticus 27:31. Another aspect of the Law of tithing permitted the people of Israel to keep their yearly tithes and to give their tithe every three years to the priests or Levites. This can be found in (Deuteronomy 14: 22-28). Pastors of today are choosing to follow the Old Testament Law of tithing, but are not following all of it. Why is this? Why are the people of God being kept in the dark about the whole law of tithing? It can only be for one of three reasons: 1. They have their own deceptive motives and seek self gain. 2. They are sincerely ignorant to the truth of God’s Word concerning tithing. 3. All of the above. The word tithe , tithes , or tithing appears in all of the Bible, both Old and New Testaments only 36 times! Yet, you will hear this word tithe being used in the pulpit more than you hear the word, LOVE which itself appears in the Bible hundreds of times. It is obvious to the spiritual eye that there is something wrong with this picture. This one word, tithe , appears only 36 times in the Bible, yet pastors of today want to build their entire ministry around it. Of the 36 times that tithe, tithes, or tithing appears in the Bible, it appears in the New Testament 6 times. Of those 6 times, Jesus uses the word 3 times as He speaks to the Pharisees, in the books of Mark and Luke; and the other 3 times it is used in the book of Hebrew where it is declared that Abraham gave a tenth part of the spoils of war to Melchizedek, the High Priest. The Bible does not record the use of the term tithe, tithes, or tithing by Jesus' disciples. Neither is Paul recorded as using the word either. If tithing was such an importance to the New Covenant which Jesus implemented, you would think that it would have been mentioned by the disciples of the New Covenant; at least once! If Paul and the other disciples did not talk about tithing, or it was not important enough to record that they did, then what did they talk about? We’ll get to that later. Let’s look at the scriptures that pastors like to use today to get the people to give up one tenth of their earnings weekly, monthly, but never yearly! Of the 30 in the Old Testament, they like to use only one! And, that is, Malachi 3:8-11: “Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, how have we robbed Thee? In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing Me, the whole nation of you! Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me in this, says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour out for you a blessing that you won’t have room to receive. Then I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it may not destroy the fruits of the ground; nor will your vine in the field cast its grapes, says the Lord of hosts. And all the nations will call you blessed, for you shall be a delightful land,” says the Lord of hosts.” Woe, to some of you pastors for you have run many a people away from the church by not telling them the whole truth. Woe to some of you, for you have consistently and continuously told God's people that they would be cursed for not giving up a tenth of their earnings to you. But, not ONCE, did you ask them how you could help them turn on their lights, or how you could help them buy a car to get to work, or how you could help them to feed their children, or how you could help them fund their children’s college, or how you could help them just make ends meet! There are hurting people sitting in congregations week after week, and all the religious leaders are concerned about is a tenth part of their earnings; and not just the net, you want the GROSS. Even God was more generous to the Israelites who were allowed on occasion to keep their tithes or to redeem back their tithes if they needed to. But, let’s look at Malachi 3:8-12 and determine where this scripture came from and why. The name, Malachi, means, "My Messenger." God identifies the prophet Malachi as His messenger. What message did God deliver through Malachi and to whom? The book of Malachi opens with God expressing His love for His chosen people. (Malachi 1:1-5). There’s that word LOVE again. He wanted His people to know that He loved them. That’s really what it is all about pastors. It’s about LOVE, not tithing. But, we’ll get to that later, too. There are only four chapters in the book of Malachi. In the first two chapters God delivers a message to the corrupt priests. In chapter 1, verse 6 He tells the priests, “You don’t honor me, you don’t respect me, and you despise my name.” In the remainder of the chapter, He accuses them of bringing less than perfect offerings and sacrifices to the altar. It was the custom for the priests of Israel to offer burnt sacrifices to God for the atonement of the peoples’ sin. They were the only ones who could offer sacrifices upon the altar. In Leviticus, chapter 22: 17-33, He told the priests that the animals that were sacrificed had to be flawless. But what was happening that made God respond in Malachi, was that the flawless animals were being kept and the lame and sick ones sacrificed. God says in Hosea 4:8-9 from the Revised Edition, “The priests fed on the people’s sins. They wanted more and more of their sin offerings. So the priests are no different from the people. I will punish them for the things they did. I will pay them back for the wrong things they did.” In chapter 2 of Malachi, God tells the priests that if they don’t listen and give honor to Him, then He would send a curse upon them, curse their blessings, rebuke their offspring, and spread vomit on their faces. He goes on to give them a lesson in priesthood. He tells the priests that the lips of a priest should preserve knowledge and men should seek instruction from his mouth because he is a messenger of the Lord. But, God chastises them and tells them that they are no messenger of His because they have turned away from Him, causing the people to stumble and showing partiality in instruction; that is teaching part of the law, but not all of the law. Sound familiar? He also chastises them for divorcing the wife of their youth for their own selfish reasons. **Important Note: The Old Testament priests were allowed to marry. (Ex.18:1; Lev.7:34,35; 22:12,13). In chapter 3 of Malachi, God declares that He will send His messenger, a true messenger of God who will declare the truth and will declare the coming of Jesus Christ, a purifier of men that their offerings may be presented in righteousness. “I am going to send My messenger, and he will clear the way before Me. And the Lord, who you seek, will suddenly come to His temple; and the messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight, behold, He is coming, says the Lord of hosts. But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’soap. And He will sit as a smelter and purifier of silver, and He will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, so that they may present to the Lord offerings in righteousness.” God cautions the priests to return to Him and He would return to them. Then, the priests asked, "How shall we return?" God answered and said let’s begin with the fact that you are robbing from me, your whole nation is. And He precedes to tell them what they needed to do. Malachi delivered a message from God to the priests. Yet, pastors today want to use Malachi 3:8-12 to make God's people feel guilty and accursed when they don't give a tenth of their earnings. Religious leaders also like to justify tithing under the New Covenant by pointing to the fact that Jesus mentioned the word tithes . Well, of all the hundreds of things that Jesus said, He only mentioned tithing 3 times and that was in Matthew 23:23; Luke 11:42, and Luke 18:12. In all three instances guess who He was talking to? He was talking to the Pharisees, the religious leaders! If you look at these passages beginning with Matthew 23:23 what was Jesus actually saying? Listen to what He said to them: “ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees.. hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness: but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others.” The emphasis in this passage clearly is NOT tithing. Yet pastors want to make us think it is. The emphasis in Matthew 23:23 and Luke 11:42 is the fact that you cannot exercise parts of the Law and forsake the others, which is what the Pharisees were doing. In fact, Jesus says that more important than tithing is justice, mercy, and faithfulness. Moreover, the Pharisees and the Jewish people were expected to tithe because they were still under the Mosaic Law. The New Covenant had not yet been established. Pastors also like to use Hebrews 7 to justify tithing under the New Covenant. But, look at what this scripture references. It references the Old Testament. This is the scripture where Abraham goes to war, defeats his enemy and gave a tenth part of the spoils to the High Priest by the name of Melchizedek. Notice, the passage reminds us more than once, in verses 5, 11, 19, and 28 that this notion of tithing was under the Law of Moses and was a law given to the Israelites to tithe and give them to the Levitical priests who are out of the loins of Abraham. The emphasis is not tithing in Hebrews 7, it is the fact that Abraham tithed to a Christ-like figure by the name of Melchizedek. But, now there is one, Jesus Christ, who has authored a better covenant of which He is the guarantor; thereby nullifying the need for high priests, because Jesus is THE only High Priest we will ever need. Many have attempted to take the emphasis away from Jesus as the ultimate High Priest and put it on tithing. 16 Likes 3 Shares |

Tithing is not something Christians should debate over. It is a personal agreement with you and God. Give your tithe if you will and forget what anyone says or thinks. If you are not going to pay, stop trying to justify it and trying to get support for your decision. Just quietly don't give. 1 Like |

O Lord God your children have been deceived for too long. Men who claim to be your mouth piece have made mechandize of your word exploiting the weak and feeble at heart. We have been deceived because we have chosen to live in ignorance of your word. We have been deceived because we want instant blessing and wealth. Hard work is not emphasize anymore but miracle of blessings and men have become indolence, idling in wait of miracle. We are imbued with fear because to speak against the evil exploits in the church is equated to speaking ills of "men of god" and so we are threatened with spiritual consequences. Lord you said you love a cheerful giver not the one who is threatened, deceived and cajoled to part with his earnings. Men stand out every Sunday with raised tithes in their hands in a public show to spite, intimidate and demean those who don't have to give or don't believe in this exploits "Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them?". Romans 11:35 .Father forgive us for making you a lotto machine. O Lord take us back to the old faith, that faith of love and more love that Jesus preached. May this revival through tithes brings a new lease of understanding to your word in the church in Jesus name. Amen. 9 Likes |

cuedish: Your ignorance of scriptures is obvious . It's like Abraham refusing to move when God asked him to. He could have easily said God bless me here. The bible says give and it shall be given to you. God gave his son for our salvation and our example . The disciples in acts of the apostle sold everything they had and brought it to the apostles feet. This debate about tithing is foolish because tithe is not enough. Those who give and continue to give know the benefits. If you don't know why, it's because you don't have the Holy Spirit .Carnal unregerated sinners should not discuss what goes on in the household of God. The bible clearly says its foolishness to them. We give more than tithe and remain happier and more blessed than your poor selves. By the way, some MUSLIMS gave singlehandly built mosques and they don't make any noise about it. So many imams go to Mecca every week, no noise. No complaints. Yet ,liberal CHRISTIANITY now means every slowpoke challenges christian leaders. I see God making them dumb very soon. 2 Likes 1 Share |

There is something you guys don't simply understand, you can't discern spiritual things canally. Just becareful what you say because if you are totally wrong and lead people astray with your words ,then remember you are not fighting pastors or teachers or any man of God but you fighting God himself. Tithe and offering belongs to God ,pay your tithe and offering and remove your mind and thoughts from what the church is using it for because it belongs to God and whosoever mishandle the tithe or the offering will be punished by God himself be him a pastor or not. No amount of words you write here can change how God operates ,so leave God's duty to him and do what he asks you to do . All of us here including myself pointing fingers we have all fallen short of the glory of God one way or the other and we commit worse sins ,instead of us to be busy working out our salvation with fear and trembling to make sure we make heaven at last we are here judging others. Be warned God is not a respecter of any man ,before you comment anything that has to do with God examine yourself first. 1 Like |

I think its apt I share here an experience I had several years ago which I posted on this forum. . . ....... Yesterday I had a truly amazing experience in Church in a Lagos suburb. What, you might wonder, is your ol' chap doing in Church on a sunday, given his antecedents? Well I cannot really comment on that now: save to very shamelessly note that given the pure gentleman that I am, it is against my upbringing to decline an invitation from a comely damsel, if she be comely enough, and wear high-heels of a certain height. Now, I will not name the Church. I think there is no reason to name it: suffice to say that it is a rather new ministry with a very large building in a Lagos Suburb. Before I go any further i think it is important for me to state very explicitly: I have of recent tendered an unreserved apology to such Christians on this forum as may have felt offended by my posts regarding certain Christian doctrines: I plead that no one mistakes this as a diatribe against Christianity of any sort: this is strictly and specifically about the antics of the Pastors at the Church that i visited: and I am certain, as we all are - that not all Pastors could be this way. Now here was a truly terrible beast of a man: and he had a very clear mission about him - to which end he waged a sure war on the pulpit - a very frightening and dire one indeed. From the moment he stepped up to the pulpit and commenced I just could not take my eyes off the man. He was absolutely riveting. The Message This was a man who knew his mission. O, you'd better believe that - he was not in any way schizophrenic: no split personality at all: he had ONE resolute and clear personality, one resolute and clear mission - to which he devoted his fervent and ultra-passionate energies on the pulpit. Our man started off with the definition of who a true son is. Not one to be accused of tardiness of any form; he commenced by first making clear who the father was: he himself, given the anointing of God for that special role, was the father of all the members of the congregation - and they were all his children. Having set the tone, our man plunged headlong into the essentials of "being a true son" to him. True sons, he boomed in a loud imperious tone, must vigorously ensure that they bring their money to their father - himself. For which true son, he argued, would see his father neglected? At this point, before proceeding the grand pastor gave a brief lecture on the awe with which he should be esteemed by the congregation. He stated explicitly that any member of the church who criticizes him is "B.A.S.T.A.R.D" and not a true son. He went further to state that any member of the church who was in any place where he, the head pastor, was being criticized, owes a duty to slap the critic. This, he stated, is not un-christrian violence because Jesus after all, used whips on the stubborn. Our man insisted that it is only right and proper, that any member of the congregation who hears a person criticizing the pastor, should react by slapping such a person. He promised that the church will do everything to protect such a person. He defended this asking - which one of you will stand back if your biological father is insulted? IF you would not, then should you not also fight for me, your spiritual father? Only B.A.S.T.A.R.D.S would refuse to slap his critics, he said. He went further to state that no one should engage the thought as to whether or not the critic was right: that the slap should be delivered first and that the church will resolve any consequences of such slapping. Now all of this was delivered at a frighteningly harsh pace: our man was literally screaming his head off: he roved frantically about the stage staring down people and demanding if they were true sons, and what they would so for him, their father. The Core Message Now the treatise on sonship was but brief: for our man spent the whole of his ensuing lecture of some three hours stressing vehemently that every member of the church must continuously bring their money to him, in order to advance the church and the work of God. I kid you not, this man was panting, and roaming the stage and shouting "BRING IT TO ME, BRING IT TO ME, I WANT YOUR MONEY, BRING IT TO ME! ! !" I was dumbfounded. He went on and on. He simply would not let up. He screeched at the congregation, repeatedly calling them, "stingy, wicked and decitful" and constantly shouting - "B.A.S.TARDS! THE B.A.S.TARDS HERE DON'T WANT TO BRING THEIR MONEY! BRING YOUR MONEY TO ME! ! !" This shouting and terrorizing the audience went on and on and on - and the fellow had absolutely no gospel teaching throughout the three hour sermon save to continue to shout and impress on the people that those who refused to bring their money to him were B.A.S.TARDS. The church building project, he emphasized throughout, must take precedence over all individual needs. Such was the importance of the project. He then urged the "true sons" to name go and set up new churches everywhere across the country, but that such churches must remain branches of his church. He emphasized that St. Paul did not even see many congregations, and yet was their "master." He was very particular that any such person who started a new church and gave it a new name and did not place the new church under his authourity is " A B.A.S.TARD" and "damn wicked to be punished." The Offering At the end of his three hour diatribe, i was galled to note his words. He said, verbatim - "Before I go, let me collect my offering." The ushers then began to collect tithes and offering, while be boomed down at the people saying that those who did not give are THEIVES, are stealing from God. He shouted - it is not your money! You have no right to keep it! Bastards! Thieves! BRING IT TO ME!" "Why are you looking at me like that?" Now i should note that the entire sermon was punctuated by something very peculiar. At various points he seemed uncomfortable at the way his message of abuse and enrichment was being received. Thus at several points during the sermon he would run down the steps and start shouting "WHY ARE YOU LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT? ? ? WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT? ? ? YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT I AM SAYING, ABI? ? ? STOP LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT! ! !" It was simply obvious that many people were befuddled as to his violent, insulting and demanding message and were staring at him in an odd fashion. This made him angry and uncomfortable . "WHY ARE YOU LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT? ? ? STOP LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT! ! !" At some point he confided in the audience that his rent in the united states was about to expire and he had to find the money within the next one month. After he descended the pulpit, a succession of three pastors followed, each demanding more money for the church building project, the church television launch, and others. The tone was very clear and strict: and small amounts were explicitly discouraged. I was amazed that the pastors all spent the entire day demanding money and preached not a single word of the gospel. After the service had ended, as the congregation dispersed, he went back to the pulpit and began to say - "Any personal gifts for me. . .i will accept personal gifts. . ." Amazingly quite a number of people approached him with envelopes. More than ever before I was taken aback by the entire service. The reason I was so taken aback was that I have always presumed that many of these guys actually believe in their ministry as the work of God.
