I am sorry guys, something came up and I had to delay. Here is the first episode.

Cool breeze blow around the small town of Baga;a fishing centre. It was harmattan, the air was dusty and dry. The effect of the weather could be seen on the people's lips and feet. Despite the cold, fishermen take it upon themselves to go out early in the morning to make some catch;only a lazy fisherman would give the cold weather as an excuse. Fishermen usually go out early in the morning to set up traps then return home to either go to the farm, market or other places. Fishing is an age long occupation passed down from ancestors;a typical Baga man is a fisherman no matter what. Afternoon usually see the fishermen going back to their traps. They don't return until it is almost dusk. That's how life goes on in the town of Baga.
It was midday, the town was almost empty if not for the children who run around playfully in front of their homes. Fishermen had gone back to the river to check their traps and women are either in the market or taking nap in their houses. Somewhere around the exist of the town was located a public school which is almost two decades old. The roofs were old and have several holes in them. When it rains, pupils and students move to the side that doesn't leak. The school is fenced by tree branches, courtesy of the pupils and students who take it upon themselves to replace the fallen fence.
It was break time, pupils and students run around, some playing football, skipping while others sit under the trees observing the activities. Sitting under a mango tree was Gumsu,a sixteen year old girl in her first year in senior secondary. She have the features of a typical Kanuri girl;tall, lean, dark skinned. On her oval face are a straight line from the fore head to the nose, two straight lines on both checks and another two on the rear side near the ears. She is one of the privilege few girls, allowed to attend school by their parent;there are less than forty girls in the whole Baga Community secondary school. She sat quietly, looking around at the others as they go about doing one thing or the other. She is the shy type and have few friends, both at home and in school.
The bell rang loud, piercing the ears of those close by. It was end of break, everywhere became rowdy as the pupils and students run around into their various classes. Gumsu stood up from the large tree root she was sitting on and dust sand away from her green check wrapper. She adjusted the hijab on her head and began walking towards her class. Her manner of walking is something to look;her shoulders are always high, her heels hardly touch the ground when she walks and her tiny waist swing from left to right. Many girls are age are already married off to but thanks to her father who is a strong advocate of female education;she isn't getting married anytime soon. She saw the mathematics teacher moving towards their class and quickly increased her pace. She entered the class just in time, went to her seat and sat down. The teacher came in few seconds later and dropped his teaching aids on the table. He stood hands akimbo, facing the class who stood up immediately to greet him. After the formalities,he asked the class to sit the went to the board and began writing and explaining to the class at the same time. Gumsu quickly brought out her notebook and began writing. The principal,Mallam Kukawa came in midway into the class. The students stood up and greeted him.
"Gumsu Babagana." The principal called, looking around for her. Her heart jumped to her mouth.
"Yes sir." She answered fearfully, moving to the front of the class.
"See me in after the lesson." He said and left.
Gumsu nodded and returned to her seat. She lost concentration immediately. Nothing good comes out when the principal ask someone to see him in the office. Her heart kept pounding in her chest as the lesson last. She stood up immediately and left for the principal's office when the mathematics teacher left. She saw two other students;both boys sitting outside the principal's office. She greeted them and stood distance away from them. The principal came out minutes later and asked them in. They stood in front of the desk, eyes unblinking. There was fear and worried written all over their faces.
The principal cleared his throat and began: "The three of you must be wondering why I called you to my office." They nodded. "We got and invite from cowbell to participate in the forth coming cowbell mathematics competition. I asked your mathematics teacher for three names and your names came up;you will be representing the school at the competition. I want all of you to go home and start preparing;the competition is in a months time. Gumsu, you're the first girl ever chosen to represent the school,I want you to use this opportunity well."
"I will sir." She said and nodded.
"That's all,you can go back to your classes now." The principal said.

Episode 2

The three students left the office, each of them excited. Gumsu couldn't contain her happiness, she wish the school would just finish so she could run home and inform her parent. Time to her was moving in a snail like manner to her. After like forever,it was finally closing time. She picked up her bag and dashed towards her younger brother's class. She met him gisting with some of his class mate and called his name. He picked his bag and hurried towards her.
"What is going on,you look happy." Her brother asked her, raising his brows.
"I will tell you when we reach home." She said and pulled him. He followed her sheepishly.
They arrived home within minutes. Their mother was surprised to see them early. She asked them the reason they were early and why Gumsu was smiling broadly. Gumsu didn't hesitate, she told them everything. Their mother was over the moon. Her brother Goni, dashed out of the house to inform his peers about his sister's latest achievement. The house was soon filled up with well wishers who came to congratulate Gumsu. Their father,Mallam Babagana came back in the evening with his net and a bucket filled with fishes. He went to the bathroom, conjoined with toilet which was at the backyard of the house, had his bathe then changed into a flowing gown. He went and sat under the cashew tree near the exist of the house then tuned on his small radio.
He went out to the mosque to pray and didn't returned until after the Isha'i prayer. It was already dark;the only source of light was an old lamp which was hanged on the wall just outside the entrance. Mallam Babagana spread the raffia mat then called on his wife to bring his food. She came almost running with the plate of food. She dropped it in front of him them went and brought water. She sat beside him, watching him as he gulped down his meal. She took away the dishes then returned. She told him the good news and he quickly ask her to call Gumsu. Gumsu arrived, bent down on her knees and greeted her father;her head down.
"Your mother told me you have been selected to represent your school in a competition,is that true?"
"Yes father." She nodded.
"Alhamdulillah! That's the benefit of sending a girl to school. If only other parent would listen and send their female children to school,it will be better for them. I am proud of you Gumsu,I know you're destined to become someone great. May Allah bless you." Mallam Babagana said happily scratching his long beard.
"Amin." Gumsu and her mother said in unison.
"I will give your mother money tomorrow to go to the market and buy a chicken to slaughter for you."
"Thank you father." Gumsu replied smiling, then turned to look at her mother who was also smiling from ear to ear.
"You can go now." Mallam Babagana said waving his hand. Gumsu stood and left.
Mallam Babagana tuned on to BBC Hausa to listen to the nine o'clock news. He increased the volume;there was a report on an attack carried out on a village not far from Baga. According to the report, about forty people were killed and a number of women abducted. Mallam Babagana sighed and shook his head disappointedly. The report ended and Mallam Babagana quickly turned off the radio.
"I don't know why those terrorist keep taking innocent lives,if they have problem with the government why won't they just go to Abuja and face the government? We are suffering and they keep increasing to our suffer." Mallam Babagana said bittered.
"What they are doing is totally against the teaching and rulings of Islam." His wife added.
"Exactly. Islam sees human life as sacred, only Allah have that right as the creator to take lives."
"True. May Allah protect us from the evil plan of the evil people."
"Amin." They remain quiet for some times then went inside to sleep.

Episode 3

The sound was coming from the distance and it draw closer by each passing second. She was half asleep and half awake. Someone tap her on the lap and she jerked up fearfully. It was her mother and she wasn't dreaming as she thought. She open her mouth to speak but was interrupted by her mother.
"Quickly,we are under attack!" Her mother announced lifting her up with by her shoulder.
She roam about confused and worried. It was just yesterday that Mallam Kukawa told her she will be representing the school in the cowbell competition, why then will the town be under attack? No it can't be possible. She made for her school back and carried it. Just then, her father came into the room holding her brother's hand;the blast and gun shots were becoming louder.
"What are you doing Gumsu? That should be the least of your worries now;drop it immediately." Her father commanded. He turned to her mother and said: "Let's go now."
Her mother grabbed her hand and pulled her out of the room;closely following her father. They ran towards the entrance, her father peeped outside to make sure it was save outside before he stepped out and surmourn the rest of his family to following him. They began running towards the road that leads to the river. The town was in commotion;the sound of gun shot and bomb blast ring loud in the air like sound of thunder on a rainy august night. The town was illuminated by fire that caught on roofs of houses and trees. There was wailing of helpless children who probably were lost in the process. People run around for safety, not minding who was beside,in front or behind them;they just want to get to safety. Gumsu and her family continued running towards the river;her mother firmly holding her hand. Other people were also running in the same direction as them. Her mother let out a loud growl;she had been hit by a bullet.
"Are you ok?" Mallam Babagana asked worried.
"I will be fine,I can manage to run. Let's get to safety first." She said painfully, biting her lips.
"No,we can hide somewhere for the main time until this is over."
"No!" She barked. It was the first time Gumsu saw her mother shout at her father;it must be the pain from the gun wound. "It is not safe here, let get to the river and cross to the other town."
Mallam Babagana didn't say a word,he just nodded and they continued running. They arrived at the river and quickly climbed onto a canoe;Gumsu helped her mother inside. Mallam Babagana carried the paddle and began paddling the canoe hurriedly;looking back to see if they were safe. The gun shots became closer to them, they turned and saw that the terrorist have followed them to the river and were shooting at them. A bullet hit Mallam Babagana on the fore head and he collapsed in the river. Gumsu bent down as the bullet continue raining, piercing the canoe. Soon, water began entering the canoe and it started sinking. The canoe turned over and they collapsed into the river. Gumsu was in dilemma;she couldn't swim so is her brother and their mother had been shot. She started struggling to keep her head over the water. She gave up on living and allow herself sink inside the water.
