I Need Help........i Need Educational Counselling!!!?! by dondavad: 10:41pm On Nov 20, 2017
Good morning nairalanders My name is David, am 19 years old and I need some educational counseling or should I say advice from you guys I studied mechanical engineering in a polytechnic and am currently on my one year IT during my year 1, I started having this feeling like mechanical engineering was not for me..... don't get me wrong, I was doing well academically. I even made distinction(3.52) in my ND 1 first semester, I also enjoyed some courses we did like thermo dynamics, fluid mechanics and EEC. I was not just good at any thing practical related, I was not good with tools, my hands will just start shaking if I try to work with it....... during my year 2, that's this year, I bought jamb form and choose computer science, I wrote the exam and scored 271, went for the post utme earlier this month and scored 65. am pretty sure with this score I'd gain admission into the school but now am confuse.......I don't know if this part am taking is a good one. I don't know if am should continue with my HND or I should go study computer science from year one I don't know which one has higher job prospect or chances of getting a job In Nigeria. please I need your help with talking this huge step in my educational pursuit

Hello David.
What do you see yourself doing in the future?

Hi David, You seem lost between what your ability is and what the future holds for you which can be likened to confusion, indecision or fear of the unknown. First I would say, if you've observed that you are not good at all in tools handling, then anything engineering isn't for you.

Considering your age at 19, you can start a degree all over but I must say that computer science is just an introduction to what the future holds for you as an IT pro. you need to take professional qualifications

during some conversation at home my dad will be like "don't worry once David finish school, he will do this, he will do that, he will build this"
my parents are expecting so much from me..... and I don't want to disappoint them.... I don't know if studying computer science is the way forward.....

Hey David.
From your write-up u seems like a bright guy. Dats is good. Mech engr is a professional course. If u get hnd in it, it can guarantee some pecks in the future the field is broad. Computer science is IT course. Anyone with no degree can take courses and get jobs related to it.
Since u re on the path of engr. I feel u jst see it thru. take IT courses or tutorials as back up. 19 years or nt ya old.. Most jobs require pple below 26 years. I studied electrical engr. I had passion for programming and graphics design so I took it as side course. Did both togethe wen I was 19. Nw my 24. I have a job as an engr, I take projects as a programmer. See you can do both... Ur parents re happy u re happy. Having two tins is better than jst one. U seems to have the brain power. So use dat to the fullest. Study engr, take IT related courses and tutorials. If u start computer science now. U will finish by 23 service by 24 bro time don go already.

You have the brain power... So use it.

Pray for direction too.
