Can we say, Isaac Success is the closure player we have in the mould of Martins?

Isaac Success is not even on the team sheet at Watford.

When I called him a waste man so many went up in arms. Having the talent and throwing it in the bin considering where we are coming from. The struggle for daily bread in a harsh and unforgiving environment. I find unforgivable.

As it stands there is 109% far more justification for the inclusion of Obagoal than Isaac Success.

Obagoal has better stats by ratio than Ighalo and they play in the same league in China.

Do not write-off or give-up on the young man. He got carried away with the money he was getting. I still see him picking himself up and making the best out of the situation he is in now. He got a good motivation to spur him to try hard in Richarlison.

ROAD TO RUSSIA: Who Should Spearhead Super Eagles Attack At 2018 World Cup?

The Super Eagles have not been found wanting in attack. At least so far. But there is this feeling that the squad still lacks a prolific pointman who can be relied upon to supply the goals in tight matches against high-quality opposition.

Under Gernot Rohr’s guidance, the Super Eagles have often played the 4-3-3 system with two wide forwards supporting the centre forward.

Rohr played Odion Ighalo, Kelechi Iheanacho, Brown Ideye and Anthony Nwakaeme as the centre forwards in the qualifying campaign for the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Although Nigeria breezed through a supposedly tough qualifying group that contained Cameroon, Algeria and Zambia, none of the strikers scored more than twice. Iheanacho scored two goals, Ighalo scored once, while the others did not get on the scoresheet.

Instead, it was wide forward Victor Moses who scored three goals, while Moses Simon and Alex Iwobi added two each. Even central midfielder Mikel Obi scored twice.

So, should Rohr stick with the strikers he has already used during the qualifiers? Which of them should be the spearhead in Russia? Ighalo? Iheanacho? Nwakaeme?
Or should the likes of Henry Onyekuru, Olanrewaju Kayode, Victor Osimhen and others still be given a shot at leading the Super Eagles attack in Russia?

It is time again to have your say as Completesportsnigeria.com continue our Road To Russia World Cup Debate series.

Puel: Iheanacho, Musa Will Get Leicester City Chances

By Johnny Edward:

Leicester City manager Claude Puel has assured Nigeria forwards Kelechi Iheanacho and Ahmed Musa that they will get their chances in the starting line-up with the Foxes soon.

Puel admits Iheanacho is facing a lot of competition for a starting spot, but is quick to add that the 21-year-old must be ready to seize the opportunity when it comes.

Iheanacho, who has made nine appearances (two starts and seven substitute appearances) for the club this season, has struggled to break into the Leicester City side following his £25 million move from Manchester City in the summer.

Musa has been totally frozen out, restricted to cup games and U-23 fixtures.

“He (Iheanacho) is a good player but he must improve when he finds his place in the squad,” said Puel during his pre-match interview.

“We have a lot of players in this position. It is good competition between them, perhaps a little more because for one or two positions we have six possibilities.

“We have Iheanacho, Islam Slimani, Ahmed Musa, Shinji Okazaki, Leo Ulloa and Jamie Vardy; it is a lot of players but I hope we can give them good game time for the future because we play every three days.

“It will need all these players with good qualities and attitude.

“They need to work hard in the training sessions to keep a good level. Of course all the players want game time but the balance is difficult because we have a lot of players in the same position.”

Leicester City are 12th in the English Premier League table with 13 points from 12 games. The travel to the Olympic stadium to face West Ham in their next game on Friday.

Amuneke: Eagles Have Progressed Despite Fall In FIFA Ranking

By Johnny Edward:

Former Super Eagles assistant coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, has urged Nigerians not to be dismayed by the recent plummeting of the senior national team in the latest FIFA Coca-Cola World Ranking released on Thursday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Nigeria dropped nine places, from 41st to 50th position, losing 50 points from their previous 721 points to record 671 points for the month of November.

“We must not delve much on that (FIFA ranking),” Amuneke told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“The most important thing is that the team is improving, the ranking isn’t biased as many think because its down to points accumulated over the course of a period. We did well in the month under review defeating Argentina and drawing Algeria but how many points did Nigeria accumulate?.

“It could be suprising to see that the Super Eagles are behind Senegal, Tunisia, Egypt, Congo Democratic Republic, Morocco, Burkina Faso and Cameroon, but what matters most is which team is progressing with the aim of achieving their targets.”

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 21 December 2017.

Pascal: Super Eagles Not Bothered By Drop In FIFA Ranking

By Adeboye Amosu:

Super Eagles co-ordinator Patrick Pascal is unperturbed despite the team faring poorly in the latest FIFA world rankings, reports Completesportsnigeria. com.

The three-time African champions dropped nine places from 41st to 50th position in the latest ranking released by the world soccer ruling body on Thursday.

The team is also ranked in the eighth position in Africa behind countries like Senegal, Tunisia, Egypt, Congo Democratic Republic, Morocco, Burkina Faso and Cameroon.

It came as a shock to many following the Super Eagles’ impressive showing during the last international break during which the team played out a 1-1 draw against Algeria and recorded a 4-2 win against Argentina.

“I don’t read any meaning to the new rankings. For me, we should continue to do well on the pitch and the reward will surely come at the right time,” the former Super Eagles and Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan player told Completesportsnigeria. com.

“I expect us to do better next month and in the subsequent ones. We have a young team that is full of quality players and I don’t see any reason why we will not be ranked among the best in the next few months.”
The Super Eagles are one of the five teams that will represent Africa at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Bonfrere Salutes ‘Powerful Nigerian Striker’ Yak At Retirement

Gold Usenekong

Exclusive By Adeboye Amosu: Former Super Eagles technical adviser, Jo Bonfrere, has heaped plaudits on the former Nigeria forward, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, following his retirement from football, Completesportsnigeria. com reports.

Aiyegbeni announced his retirement from the round leather game on Wednesday, same day he celebrated his 35th birthday.

Bonfrere, who led the Nigeria U-23 side to win the Olympic Gold Medal at the 1996 Olympic Games was the man who handed Yakubu Aiyegbeni is first real taste of international football by picking him to be part of Nigeria’s squad to the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia has joined the lists of eminent personalities paying glowing tributes to the striker at retirement.

“Yakubu was one of my favourite Nigerian players. A powerful striker you can trust to score important goals for your team,” the Dutchman told Completesportsnigeria.com during an exclusive chat.

“He is a wonderful guy and I wish him good luck.”

Yakubu played for clubs like Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton and Blackburn Rovers.

It was however at Everton that he made a huge impact scoring 25 goals in 85 appearances for the Tofees.

Stoke City Join Race To Sign Ighalo

Gold Usenekong

Premier League side Stoke City have shown interest to sign Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, from Chinese Super League club Changchun Yatai, Completesportsnigeria.com report’s.

Ighalo was part of the Watford side that won promotion to the Premier League in 2015 – then scored 15 goals in his Premier League debut season in the 2015/2016 league campaign.

But the following season, Ighalo struggled to replicate his form in the previous campaign, scoring once in 17 games before joining CSL club Changchun Yatai on January 31, 2017.

According to Stoke Sentinel, Stoke City have joined the likes of Southampton, Everton and West Ham in showing interest to sign Ighalo following his impressive performance for Changchun where he scored 15 goals in 27 league appearances in the just concluded season.

Crystal Palace and West Brom were interested in signing him last season, but were put off by the Watford’s huge financial demands.

Ighalo is currently in Nigeria getting set to launch his new orphanage home with the date on December 16 in Ijegun, Lagos.

The former Granada striker played a key role in helping the Super Eagles qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

He however missed the Eagles’ last match in the 2018 World Cup African qualifying Group B against Algeria which ended 1-1 due to injury. He was also absent when Nigeria beat Argentina 4-2 in an international friendly Match on November 14.

Please let's be factual when we say things.

The only European teams Ghana has ever beaten are Serbia and Czech Republic. While they have never beaten any South American team.

But as for Nigeria, for Europe we have beaten: Bulgaria 2X, Greece, Spain, Scotland, France, Bosnia and Luxemburg. While for South America we have beaten Argentina 2X.
what is Ghana's name doing on a Nigerian sport thread?

SUPER REGULAR: Ndidi Set For 30th EPL Start In 30 Games

Gold Usenekong

By Dare Esan: Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is set to make his 30th start in 30 Premier League games tonight at the London Stadium where his club Leicester City will face West Ham United.

Ndidi has started all Premier League games he played since he made his debut in the Foxes’ 3-0 loss to Chelsea on January 14 at the King Power Stadium following his switch from Belgian top flight side Genk during the last winter transfer window.

The Nigerian who won Leicester’s young player of the year award at the end of his first season in England last summer started all 17 games he played in the league for the former EPL champions last season.

This term, and despite the change in manager from Craig Shakespeare to Claude Puel, Ndidi has played and started all 12 EPL games played by Leicester and, barring any last minute injury, looks set to make his 30th appearance in the most competitive and lucrative league in the on Friday night.

Ndidi, who has scored twice in the competition since he moved over from Belgium, will hope to lead Leicester City to victory against David Moyes’ side to at least ensure he bridges the gap between the wins and losses the club recorded in the games he featured in.

Leicester have lost 13 and won 10 in the 29 games Ndidi has featured in since last January.
While Ndidi is seeking to continue in his 100 per cent run for the Foxes, his compatriots Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho will be hoping for a change in their fortunes.

Musa who has appeared 21 times in the league since he joined from CSKA Moscow last season is yet to feature in the club’s matchday squad for the league this term while Iheanacho has started only two of the nine games he has played in the league for the club following his summer transfer from Manchester City.

Liverpool is not Manchester city, I can assure you.

Furthermore, Delph and Mangala have top class pedigree from the EPL and Portuguese league as proven and tested top players.

My view remains the same I know both clubs very, very well. At all levels.

I can assure you Unsworth will give Shehu a lot of playing time. He is not a player coming with a huge amount of pedigree. He needs to create pedigree for himself and therefore value and respect.

That's if any of this talk about him being wanted by Liverpool and Everton is actually true.

Pedigree means nothing if the player's quality does not improve. Unsworth, is also not guaranteed a long-term contract at Everton. So I doubt he is the right manager for Shehu to pitch his tent.

Klopp has a history of horning and developing young players. From his days at Dortmund with the likes of Gotze, Kagawa, a flopped Nuri Sahin, Bender and many others. We are seeing the same at Liverpool.

Liverpool tick the right boxes for Shehu and he gets to train under a very high intensity which will in turn favor us.

i think icon4 has said it all we would really need to have a fantastic world cup next year to boost our rankings and continue to sustain the tempo in AFCON qualifiers and tourney proper. africa's poor point allocation in FIFAs ranking of continents is not the best

Icon79:
So I was just thinking last night how a country like Poland (and to some extent Portugal) played and manipulated the FIFA ranking game to find themselves in the pot 1. This something we could discuss here and make some recommendations to the NFF regarding the 2022 World Cup. I mean, Poland has shown that you can game the system and that's not cheating .... it's called gaining a competitive edge grin

Anyway, let's put on our thinking caps on and come up with ways we can make FIFA ranking work for the Super Eagles going forward.

Mickael2, Junnyjake, Kog45, MetalJigsaw, elyte89, Icon4s, Mujtahida, tbaba1234, Joebie, goodjoe, Taliban, forgiveness, komekn, ChrisKels, Chrismario, kennysville, kingphilip, soetanoreoluwa, safarigirl, chrisooblog, optional1, Napoleon55, realpoacher, jotey, sontoly, Daejoyoung, nelszx, etc.

I don't know why they are all like this

I attended school with a couple of Ghanaians and they were never like this.

Same thing happened when we had kickoff Nigeria and kickoff Ghana. They would leave their boring kickoff Ghana to come and make trouble in our kickoff Nigeria.

How did the 2006 team deserve to get to the Q/final when they needed to beat Brazil in the 2nd round to get there and they lost 3-0?
