It's a thin line bro. Moreover, he was the first to use the name in a song.
What do have to say abt the saga on "Blurred Line" by robin thicke.
I do agree with you that it's a thin line. According to the law, only when one musician has copied a quantitatively or qualitatively substantial amount of copyright-protected material from another musician can it be termed a copyright infringement. In this case, I don't think Simi has.

Robin Thicke "Blurred Line" case was a bit different. Marvin Gaye's flow, musical notes and lyrics were copied in producing 'Blurred line'. Robin Thicke's inconsistent defence in the case also didn't help much.

This is a very disrespectful and ignorant comment. Victor Uwaifo had won international awards, acclaim and recognition long before you were conceived. His music transcends language and tribe. He is many times a living legend. I do not know about you.

Using his title is STEALING.
You remember years back when 50 Cent approached Chinua Achebe to use the name Things Fall Apart for a movie for a price of $1,000,000 but he refused.

So using the name is wrong without permission.

Chinua Achebe was not the oruginator of "Things fall apart"
It was first used in the third line of the first stanza of W.B. Yeats' poem "The Second Coming" in 1919.

My friend it's obvious you don't know who sir Victor Uwaifo is, or you weren't born when he was at his peak. His legacies is still much growing OK. The legendary Victor Uwaifo only attend and performs before presidents and kings OK. His songs were popular in the mid seventies / early eighties. One of his hit songs then was "guitar boy" So pls accord respect to those that deserve it. And only speak of what you know or have knowledge about.

Before you make such sweeping remarks can you prove beyond doubt that SIR UWAIFO did not patent his song?
Because he did not invent the word Joromi. You can only patent a work invented by you. By the way, you can't copyright a song title, so obviously he does not have any right to it.

did you say revive? You can't revive something that never died. His song is an evergreen and the fact that Simi chose to make a version only proves that.

Same reason Robin thicke lost the case is a similar reason the old man will win. My argument isn't abt the name "Joromi" . Listen to Simi's version, you'll hear the baba's musical notes repeated severally. Its sounds kinda like "ta la ta la ta" coming from a piano or guitar not very sure

Actually, the song is Jawon's

But the question i have for Jawon and those supportin him is,
" From whom did you all first heard the word Joromi?"

Even 50 cent wringly sought Chinua Achebe's permition to use "Things Fall Apart" thinging Achebe owns it.

www.naijastories.com/2011/09/achebe-rejects-50cents-use-of-the-things-fall-apart-title/

But then, Achebe wasnt the first to use the sentence " Things fall apart; the center cannot hold"
It was first used in the first stanza of W.B.Yeats' poem "The Second Coming" written in 1919.

www.potw.org/archive/potw351.html

I'm sure even 50 didnt know this, he wouldnt have gone asking for Achebe's consent .

So Jawon should jst tell us where he first heard the word Joromi
Wrong, Chinua Achebe has copyright to his book with the title, where is the copyright for Uwaifo Joromi song title? You mean all those artists using Caro for their song tittle have copyright or they were infringing?

I've not heard Jaywon's Joromi so I cant tell whether it a copy.

No one is talking about his song! It's the exclusive use of the word Joromi. His song is not copyright infringed and neither is the use of the word Joromi. In all the songs the word Joromi refers to name of a person. Just similar ways several other names have been mentioned all over several music genres. The use of a name is classed under generic use. Even Trump can be used in a song.

When did Simi remix your own version of "Joromi".

The title of your song was similar but the content was different.
Why do you guys like typing anything that comes to your mind without first doing a proper research, have you tried to check the chorus of Simi's Joromi, it's the same chorus with his own. Title the same, chorus the same and you are asking how did Simi remix his song. Do you actually understand the real meaning of a remix? Smh

Baba park well abeg, was it because they used the same title of there song as yours? The lyrics, the concept, style are totaly different from yours. That of simi is just exceptional.

Another teenager, exploding in ignorance. You have no idea what piracy means.
Your likes of Indomie generation think you more music than, thorough bred musician, a legendary songwriter, composer, multiple instrumentalist and super microphone voice that can still replicate his songs of 50yrs without computer aided voicing or remix.
That's why many artists of today 'll fade out in less than 5yrs on the scene.

Note, U can tell most supporters r likely from his region. 2 songs with the name John does not instantly mean piracy. The songs r mostly different. Like many, VU fame has faded mostly, most of us don't no him well, at all. It's life.

Though I have not listen to Simi's version. But if the legendary claim is true, it shows that he is truly a legend. Simi and Jaywon should ask for belated authority and apologized. It's a serious offence.

Shut the Bleep up, old man. You need to know the Legitimate use of any part of a song before you can conclude they've infringe on your copyright.

The word Joromi in all the songs refers to someone, as it's a name of a person. You can only prove infringement if substantial part of the songs are matched lyrically, in tunes, in sounds, in beats and even dance-step. And I think by standard copyright law, it's a measure of about 10%.

Do you know how many times Dangote, Otedola, Omotola, Genevieve, Folake etc has been mentioned in various songs? Why are they not complaining of infringement?

The answer is simply because no one can lay singular right on such names. Not Even Dangote or Obama can lay singular ownership to their own names. Unless you can proof that substantial part of your songs has been copied, lyrically, composition, tunes, sounds and beats etc. There's no copyright infringement whatsoever. The word Joromi in all the songs is for GENERIC use, including yours.

You have no home training! Consider how you would react to someone referring to your dad in your opening remarks. You can make your point without being so rude and savage.
