The catchy line "Joromi-Joro" that made the old song popular did same for the new.

Simi for title de song, "Segun" or "Johnson" or "Folarin" (fally baby) naa. Why Joromi?

Let's face it. The old song inspired Simi and Jaywon. Let them deny it.

JOROMI rolls on the tongue nicely.....

Ok, just read a comment she made herself, she said she was inspired by the song of Uwaifo's Joromi song. If this her comment is true then Uwaifo may win this case.

“I was trying to think an angle, I just sang the chorus and really liked the way it sounded, so I just built around that,” She says.

“One thing I did in my entire album is that I try to get inspirations from the work of legends. Not too long before I created the song, I was listening to ‘Joromi’ by Sir Victor Uwaifo, and I really liked the call-and –response thing he did, and it was inspiring. It makes the song more interactive. That’s one of the main reasons why I did the call-and-response in the song inspired.

“I also wanted to use the name. I have not heard that name in any other song before, so I thought it was going to be nostalgic and all.”

If this above statement is truly from Simi's mouth then she need permission from the legendary Victor Uwaifo. My bad I didn't do enough research on this.

Simi gave Uwaifo credit in her interview here, the only thing she didn't do was permission.

Better for her to acknowledge.

The moment I read she got the inspiration(idea) from Uwaifo Joromi song and make use of it in her song, arguing further is baseless, if she had said she never use any form of his(Uwaifo) song like Jaywon responded then it's another case.

You got it twisted bro.
There's a huge difference between mentioning popular people's name on song lyrics and "using a catchy line of someone's old song."
The word JOROMI is a "PSEUDONYM" obviously invented by SIR UWAIFO and SIMI can not deny the knowledge of such except she wants to play dump

How about "DOROBUCCI"? Do you know how many musicians have used it in their songs? Have they all infringed Tiwa Savage and Mavin records copyright?

What I'm trying to explain to you is that in all the songs, the use of the word "JOROMI" refers to a person whether Pseudonyms or Real! Copyright infringement can only be established only if substantial parts of his song are matched.

Chai! Nigerians!
Listen to the guitar tune that came up when simi started singing "I dey give you signal...." in other stanzas. That was Victor uwaifo's invented tune in his own joromi. Now tell me it was a coincidence.

Write out the musical notes of both songs and compare!

Using his title is STEALING.
You remember years back when 50 Cent approached Chinua Achebe to use the name Things Fall Apart for a movie for a price of $1,000,000 but he refused.

So using the name is wrong without permission.

But by just adding "All"....there is no locus standi for infringement! I'm sure you don't know the title of the movie remains "ALL THINGS FALL APART"!

The same way Joromi has been sung in different tunes, different lyrics, different notes, different composition and even different dance steps.

"Joromi" is his copyright. Contents do not matter. That was why 50 cents changed his movie name from "things fall apart" to all things fall apart or so, Achebe didn't give him permission. Just the name alone does the work.

How about "Dorobucci"? Do you know how many musicians have used that word?
