A house help : Someone voluntarily offering a helping hand.
A slave: One forcefully compelled to do the "MASTERS/SLAVE OWNERS bidding .

It is slavery !

(1) you cant employ a child - child labor

(2) you don't pay the child the wages but instead pay someone else - human trafficking

all the child gets from you depends on your benevolence e.g. school, food, shelter etc.

employ an above 18 house maid and pay him/her for her services directly.

1.) You can't employ a child, that is why they are not being paid and the person
they stay with qualifies as a guardian. There is no owner since nobody was bought and sold.
2.) Since most maids are extended family members who are given out by their parents who
are usually in contact, it is not trafficking.
Remuneration don't have to be money. There are many under-18 apprentices who has to serve
their boss for some number of years before being "settled". They are not slaves.
For many of this category of people, it is their one shot to success in life.
3.) You were once dependent on someone's benevolence, that didn't make you an ex-slave
It is isn't labour laws or social laws that make slavery irritating but the slavery itself, after all,
there was a time when slavery was backed by laws.
By your logic, if you have ever bought a goods or service from a person under the age of 18,
you can be said to benefit from slavery.

Eldee has no point.
While it is wrong to subject maids to unfair treatments.
Maids don't qualify as slaves.

Answer the question, can you subject your children to the same?

All you are doing is defending exploitation of the poor by the rich. Slave owners also believed they were doing slaves favours. Have you not read how some said that the slaves in the white house had it good?

You are not helping a child if you give him room board and a pittance in exchange for his /her servitude. You are callously exploiting the child's circumstances for your own convenience.

God bless u

I have showed you the obvious factors that lead to indectured servitude and and those factors don't apply to me or my children. You don't theoerize two parallel subjects and vilify the house help system when the circumstances surrounding both are unsimilar.
I don't understand what you are still ranting about.

Engaging a minor as domestic worker is child labour & it's a criminal offence madam & when you even deny her education and other necessities of life unlike your own children, is even worse. If you do this, you are simply nothing but a slave master!

Yeah, nothing good about slavery but the chances of escaping and getting freed are higher than when you are in a faraway land.

i like your response. this is why religion never opposed slavery as a vice but rather focused on fundamental rights and dignity of a human.

However, this togo/benin trafficking thing is a bit different. it is not a case of a parent handing over their child to you as a guardian. In this, you pay for the services of the child so this is labour. You pay these monies to someone else (typically not related to the child but brought the child from togo) hence the exploitation by that person. Finally this chuld or the parents do not have a right to withdraw from this contract. The supposed guardian (who is a trafficker) forces the child to serve you. If you reject the child, they simply go serve someone else.

in the maid/external family member scenario, you auto become the guardian of that child.

the under-18 apprentices are not slaves since they are directly going to earn a reward. usually there is an unwritten contract with a fixed term/tenor. They can even ask to be settled midway into the contract. It however could be child labour depending on age limits for child labour.

You'll be surprised this doesn't happen exclusively in Libya....
It's common practice in many Arabic states to see the dark skinned tribes as inferior to them and the slavery and maltreatment no be here.....

A little googling and you'll see more than 10 countries where slavery is still shamelessly, openly and foolishly practiced.......
I for don cause serious trouble if I dey there, just a small plan of their strongholds and taking charge of it while you give them really tough surprise fightback would stop all these nonsense... angry

Employing anyone below 18 years old especially a child is an abuse and can be tagged as slavery.
This is quite prevalent among your people who go to the village to bring small children to come and be working for you and I'm almost certain that you are currently engaged in such, little wonder you are trying hard to justify this evil act!

KemjikaEme:
Nothing can be compared to human slavery especially when it done by other races as a result of their prejudice against Black people.
It absolutely disgust me when people try to theorize Black Slavery and attempt to give it other definitions. What is happenning in Libya is Pure Slavery which is entirely different from House helps and Child Labour.
All countries in the world have house helps, assistants, nannies etc that either live with them or away from them.
Child labour is another evil that equally present in most countries around the world.

From time immemorial in Africa, children and adults are often employed to help around the house and take care of younger children and usually under the care of their gurdians.
Slavery on the other hand is the enslavement of human beings, the buying, selling and absolute ownership of human beings.
The Househelp is employed to work and is placed under the care of her gurdians, Slaves are owned by individuals and bound to their owners.
Africans should stop being stupid, slavery is not equivalent to employment of househelps!!
Slavery in Libya is incomparable to any sort of indectured servitude/house help.
