https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/12/benin-people-owned-lagos-aworis-paid-royalties-erelu-abiola-dosunmu/[/quote] This woman who was a celebrated Woman Friend of the late Oba Sijuwade, why can't she says all these trash when the late Ooni and Oba Adeyinka of Lagos were alive? Just to please the new Oba of Lagos on the throne now, she is saying all these. Shame on our elders |

codemaniacs: There was no such thing as a Yoruba people or territory. There were the Egbas, Ekitis, Modakekes and others, these territories were conquered by both the Benin and Oyo empires. The people and territories now know as Yoruba is a later day polical creation. 5 Likes |

Well, Need I say more ? I have already told this story, because I researched and got this history, but here on nairaland, no one wanted to know the truth, they just want to own Lagos by sentiment even when the fact states otherwise. Meanwhile, who ever can afford a real estate asset in Lagos, owns a part of Lagos. Lagos belong to all those who can afford, not to any particular tribe, but we must respect the Yorubas, they are ones who fought the dirty war to hold the land for us all to buy. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Blackfyre:oniru alone is more significant in lagos than this Erelu kuti who has no ancestral land the land she lives on belongs to Aromire, who she calls 'onile' (land owner) anytime she should meet him. Some years ago i was told that there is no current Aromire chief, something about the family is split. i don't know how true but I think this is why these troublemakers have had the recent voice to claim nonsense on Aromire's land |

macof: That's the hypocrisy of Nigeria and the reason Rivers State was made to be at loggerheads with hinterland Igbos. Lagos is a coastal multi-ethnic State like Rivers but because Yorubas didn't fight a civil war were given full rights as closest neighbours with similar language. 1 Like |

codemaniacs:contradicting contractdicting. That is not how to win a debate logically by repeating a word just to discredict my post. Why did you refuse to see the obvious. Every bini and Yoruba know the origin of there monarchy system is oduduwa, the disagreement has always being the orgin of oduduwa himself Yorubas were never under one umbrella. Yorubas are group of homogenous people sharing similar culture and language. Even the dialect of eastern Yoruba is different from those in the central and so on. It was the monarch system introduced by oduduwa sons and Oyo Yoruba empire that sort to unify Yoruba under one umbrella. Still, some yorubas weren't under the rule or Oyo yorubas or any of oduduwa sons. Those groups include the ilaje, ikale, and the various ondo groups. That is were bini monarch held sway. The other Yoruba groups under other oduduwa sons will not have attacked them because they don't feel threatened. read Yoruba history. Oromiyan (the son of oduduwa) played an important role in forming the bini monarchy system. He was also the founder of the Oyo empire. read that https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oranyan |

Adefemiaderoju1: Abi Yoruba used to be spoken in the palace until lately. But the jokers will now foolishly and shamelessly turn around to tell us one cock and bull story of how Ekaladerhan wandered from Benin, landed in Ife, became their king automatically and then had his name changed to Oduduwa. Bulllshit! 1 Like |

codemaniacs:You need to read history bro Even the word yoruba was only used to identify yorubas under the Oyo yoruba empire. we have awori ikale ilaje ijesha Egba ijebus and so on All with villages and mini towns. e.g ijebus had ijebu ode, oru and ijebu igbo, All with distinct dialect, type of dressing, and type of food. it obvious we are not arguing with facts |

codemaniacs: EMM who wrote your history book? Ojukwu declared biafra only after the eastern congress gave him approval. At the time of the declaration over 60 thousand igbos and other eastern minorities have been killed all over Nigeria. Nigeria after the massacre of Igbos declared war on Biafra on the advice of the british who promised them unlimited supply of weapons to win the war. Their main reason was to gain unlimited access to the oils wells in the east. This is why gowon reneged on the aburi accord. I don't blame the elders for voting to defend their people. Its sad that they lost the war but without british assistance Biafra would have been celebrating 50 years of independence this year. |
