His dad friend's probably had his reasons.

Just don't look at the face value of the story.

His father must have worked hard for his money and his boy scored low in Nigeria, I don't blame him for being pessimistic of the boy's chances abroad.

Plus, that probably was the needed motivation that saw the boy through his education abroad.

I bet he had the "prove them wrong" motto along with him.
Agreed

The reason why it is conducive over there is because fees are as high as $20000 annually.

Meanwhile Nigerians want same for less than $1000.

You cannot get a Mercedes Benz at the cost of a bicycle.Quality education is expensive.

I don't think it has anything to do with fees. Universities like OAU and UI have had their days of glory, without the fees being high. I don't see a correlation between fees and quality of education, in federal schools.

The problem is obvious. Our education sector is in a shambles.

Exactly.
I was astonished when people in my state protested increase in fees paid in public schools. The government proposed N10,000 per term. Ten thousand naira! People do not want to pay that but they want quality education.
The masses have a hand in their sorrow
it will interest u 2 note that d same people in govt who are telling Nigerians that education isn't cheap, are d same people who enjoyed free quality education with all manner of scholarships, subventions and subsidies at a time when d nations source of income was from cocoa, palm oil, groundnut, coal and rubber which is recharge card money compared 2 what d country earns from oil. Do Nigerians deserve cheap, affordable quality education? Yes we do. If not, d question u should ask yourself is what are we benefiting from our govt as citizens of Nigeria?

Is Covenant university not a better university than Texas A&M?

Texas A&M is a pretty stellar engineering school and one of the top schools in the United States. It is ranked up there with University of Texas -Austin.

When did university of Texas become a top uni. Mind you, I attended a global top 20 uni, so my judgement is relative.

I think the primary reason he did so well was he learnt from his mistakes and took the Masters seriously.

It’s even more than that.

Unless you have good grades and are lucky to get into Georgia Tech Online Masters program; each credit unit in masters in the US cost between $1,000.00 to $2,000.00 and you need about 30 credit units to graduate.

Little did they know that most of our lecturers and professors have below average IQ to follow up with students with a higher IQ, the results is a flop in their result, when they can't see the angle you are reasoning from instead for them to fine tune your ideas they tell you to shut up and sit down.
I couldn't agree less! I thought I was the only one who experienced such thing in school. At a point, I even thought I was arrogant to have thought my lecturers were not having enough IQ to make sense from my works.

This is Nigeria where most of our lecturers want one-size-fits-all answers to questions.

I just read your post again and saw where you said your judgement is relative.

Now I understand where you are coming from but that doesn't mean UT at Austin isn't a top school irrespective of their ranking.

Definitely, not everyone will be placed in top 10.

The argument about fees equaling better education is still valid.

The period you referenced Nigerian Universities were well funded, lecturers were paid, schools had good learning facilities, there zero strikes.

In the US, students’ fees help in making the experience better. You are deceiving yourself if you pay N1000 library fees and expect quality books in the library or N1000 medical fees, and expect them to take care of your health. In addition to the high cost of education abroad, you must show proof of having health insurance coverage as a condition of admission or continual stay.

World rankings are hardly to determine as the UK is often overrated due to jingoists within the country. Remember, India, Russia, France, Germany, etc. all have fantastic schools. I find it hard to believe that schools in the UK would be better than those in Russia, France and Germany.
