I don't think anyone would dare it. Yesterday, I saw Kane and Ali played and I thought, are these the players some people wanna compare with what we have in the Eagles? I just smh. |

Success indeed has many fathers Now that we have qualified for the world cup, almost every foreigner with a link to Nigeria that plays football wanna join d plane to Russia... Though I feel its a bad idea for the NFF and Rohr to be focusing more on foreign born players at the expense of the home groomed players, but let's give them a trail.. They should just not try and give us a KP Boateng treatment later... But seriously,I'm sure Rohr won't include more than 2-3 new players from the ones he has been calling up since he took charge...No good coach changes a squad that he has worked so hard to assembly.. |

AIG07:Aggressive? I don't think so but if you think otherwise, my apologise. However, if you claim Iheanacho is going through hard times but you can't say the same for Kayode then I know the big log of wood in your eyes can't make you see things in a more reasonable and critical way. Sentiments and lopsidedness are the keynotes of your points. Why? Kelechi has flopped big time in the past seasons and it is the past glory of three seasons ago that is his saving grace for a look into the National team else he should not be called in the first place. About being the most clinical forward, that is a big fallacy if you meant CF because he has failed severally in that position hence the need for Rohr to find him a suitable postion. That was why he was played as a RW and SS in our last games. Now, talking about Kayode. Did you watch him played this season? If no, I understand you relied on hearsay or statistics to make your points because if you saw him played you would had known he was played in various positions and he was brought on to play when he either had to defend or faced a defensive team. Overall, his performance will be the deciding factor at the end of the season. Moreover, Mane who came from the lowly Austrian league has gone ahead to be nominated for APOTY award ahead of Kelechi whom you think is from EPL. Don't forget it took Griezman three good seasons before he became an house hold name in the la liga. What does that means? You can decode a player with prospect even if his situation are not tantalizing but a player without a prospect during the course of a season or two is as good as flop. That is how you scout a player. No bi by name or tribal mark. |

I want to assume the thought in the SE is not same as what we have on this thread Rather than limit our vision to this WC we should have a long term plan to build a formidable senior national team that can compete with any other team. Our SE has been unstable over years in terms of development. The WC should be seen as a stage to expose our players and build on experience gained but as our usual way of running our football an early ouster from the WC will be greeted with sack without plan to develop our football. England is a very good example to learn from instead of begging players to play for us few months to the WC. |

safarigirl:yes i was peeved at what i felt might be a misreading of my post because i kept harping on the viking thing and so i was at pains to explain myself and that's why i wrote so much. truth is i have a connection with the viking thing from childhood stories I had read- stuff about gods like Tyr (after whom Tuesday is named) Odin or Wodin(After whom wednesday is named as in Wodin's day), Thor( after whom thursdays is named) freya the wife of Odin (after whom Friday and i think february are named) Valhalla which is the eternal abode of slain warriors etc. you know one internalizes these things and seeing that word mentioned in relation to the Iceland team struck a chord in my heart. No wahala and do have a lovely sunday too. |

TOP 10: Outstanding Stars Of NPFL Invitational Tournament Gold Usenekong. 6 days ago Completesportsnigeria.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU, who covered the just concluded Nigeria Professional Football League invitational tournament in Kano, names the 10 outstanding performers in the competition… OKIEMUTE ODAH (PLATEAU UNITED) The Plateau United new signing was unarguably the most outstanding goalkeeper at the NPFL invitational tournament in Kano. Okiemute was outstanding in the league champions’ opening fixture against Enyimba, making a number of breathtaking saves. He also proved his class in the second game against the Home Eagles though his side lost 1-0. KALU ORJI (HOME EAGLES) Cool, calm and collected, Orji came in for the injured Adeleye Olamilekan in the home-based Super Eagles first game against Plateau United and showed his exceptional qualities in the game and his side’s two other fixtures against Enyimba and MFM FC. The Enugu Rangers central defender controls the defence with ease and is also a good passer of the ball. He will no doubt be one of the key men for the Eagles in Rwanda. SUNDAY FALEYE (HOME EAGLES) It took Sunday Faleye few minutes to show why he is the subject of a transfer tussle between Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan and Nationwide League outfit Freestan FC. The young forward was offered the chance to show his worth in the Home Eagles’ second group game against Enyimba and he grabbed it with both hands with his mesmerizing display. Faleye also scored his team’s winning goal in the encounter. ADEBOYEGA ADEKUNLE (MFM FC) The MFM FC forward shone in the absence of Sikiru Olatunbosun and Victor Mbaoma who both featured for the Home Eagles in the competition. He was joint top scorer in the competition with Anthony Okpotu. They both registered two goals each. TOSIN OMOYELE (PLATEAU UNITED) Tosin Omoyele scored 15 goals for Osun United in the Nigeria National League last season. He proved his performance for the Omoluabi Boys was no fluke with a fine showing here in Kano and was rewarded with an invitation to the home-based Super Eagles ahead of the African Nations Championship. ANTHONY OKPOTU (HOME EAGLES) The Panther as he is fondly called by his admirers was almost unplayable in the final against MFM FC where he netted twice. He will no doubt be one of the key men for Home Eagles in Morocco. JONATHAN ZIKIYE (MFM FC) The marauding left-back was a top performer for MFM FC at the NPFL invitational tournament. The former Wikki Tourists defender started the first game against Akwa United on the bench but later came off the bench and started the next two games against Kano Pillars and the Home Eagles. He was lively in all the games he played, mesmerizing fans with timely overlapping runs. AUSTIN OLADAPO (HOME EAGLES) The gifted midfielder started the Home Eagles’ second group game against Enyimba and showed he could be relied upon with a superlative showing. He ran the show in the middle of the pack alongside Dayo Ojo in the game. He is certainly a good back-up option for the duo of Ifeanyi Ifeanyi and Rabiu Ali in midfield. EMEKA OGBUCHI (HOME EAGLES) The winger has already impressed Home Eagles coach Salisu Yusuf who praised him for his excellent showing in the competition. It will be a surprise if the Rivers United player fails to make it to the African Nations Championship in Morocco. CHINEDU UDEAGHA (ENYIMBA) The new acquisition from Enugu Rangers was impressive in the two games he featured for the Peoples Elephant even though his side failed to make it to the final. He scored in the opening game against Plateau United and also won a penalty missed by Chinonso Okonkwo. https://www.completesportsnigeria.com/top-10-outstanding-stars-npfl-invitational-tournament/amp/ |

safarigirl:haaaaa!greek mythology. had a book when i was in primary school about greek legends and myths and arabian nights. how i loved that book. elder sister hid it once. i cried like i was bereaved until i found the book. prosepina, pandora's box, the legend of icarus, pygmalion, the story about king midas, zeus, bacchus, the seven journeys of sinbad, aladdin, the wonderful lamp and ali baba and the forty thieves. while writing i tried to find a national mythological theme that could perhaps resonate with our players but i couldnt recall any. Queen amina of zaria came to mind but i doubt if it would connect with the team. she was a fearless warrior. |
