Since he is not the owner of the property and just renting, it can't be building insurance, it will be contents insurance. Having contents insurance is not a bad idea. Had it when I was living in an apartment about 18 years go. It's usually a small fee anyway. So if you have valuables, it's a good idea.

Ralphlauren:

Is it building or home contents insurance you are paying for?

Building insurance covers the building itself - in case of fire or damage from water, flood, etc.

Home contents covers your belongings - TV, carpet, kitchen hob (depending on the policy) against theft or damage.

Right now, I have just building insurance (compulsory as this is one of the terms of any mortgage) but I do not have home contents insurance.

I recently dropped a hot iron on my rug and unfortunately I need to replace the whole rug as I’m told it can’t be “patched up”. This is the only time I regretted not having home contents insurance as I could have made a claim and had the carpets replaced by the insurers. angry

As a single person during my tenant days, I never had any form of home insurance. That’s the landlords responsibility. The landlord is supposed to have both building insurance and landlord insurance.

Is UK pension substantial?
What if one lives to be as old as Mama Charlie, will it still be significant.
I haven't started pension yet

Yes. It is.

There is the state pension - based on your NI contributions.

Now it’s compulsory legal requirement for all employers to enrol their employees in a workplace pension. So this means a certain percentage is deducted from your salary by a pension administrator (your employer also pays in a percentage into your pension pot).

You can choose to increase your monthly pension contribution and you can also use to have your own private pension arrangement with a pension administrator.

If you are on PAYE, you should be paying into a pension scheme. Abi did you sign a waiver for that too? grin you should check with that your agency!

They might have stylishly made you sign a waiver which means they pay nothing towards pension contributions.

That's good. But let's face it - An overwhelming majority in Nigeria will not smell close to that a month. So, you may be in a very good field that pays that much, and that's good. Unfortunately to live very comfortable in Nigeria one needs to be REALLY making a lot of money. And still that does not even guarantee the basic comforts of life...as well all know how things are in Nigeria.

Just weigh your options and determine if you will live a better life and have peace of mind in Canada or Nigeria.

my cousin in Ibadan earns a monthly salary of 35k as a Teacher in Oyo state, he is married with a son. I guess the wife gets some money from her family, cos they are keeping up with joneses. And me, i still dey fear-fear

I agree it’s not a bad idea for a home with valuables.

I actually thought my Mrs had home contents insurance when the damage on the carpet occurred but it turned out that she also assumed I had it grin

i heard coding is very lucrative.
My brother in Germany just moans about the time he wasted as a lad not learning it.
with the way artificial intelligence is going, you should look into that, i think
Also, Germany offers tuitionfree post grad school.
You might be able to get some real higher skills there before going to Canada, where perhaps web design or motion design is like aka selling recharge card...I dunno, it just feels 1990s stuff to me

My sister. It’s well.

I agree that the buying the property will give you peace of mind and a sense of fulfilment.

An increase in your joint monthly income will also help.

Awitan, they will say UK people are stingy. I hope the anti-UK brigade can see how much money you spend on supporting family and friends in nigeria.

Lol!!

Some UK people are stingy just like some others living in most western countries...imconfused and her husband might be the exemption and maybe it's because they have excess money to cater for extended families.

Now some people who are based in UK/US can decide to be stingy, it's not a crime. I want to believe that most people living abroad should know that cost of living in Nigeria is still very cheap unlike compared to the UK/US. Most people in Nigeria have their own houses that they have no need to be paying compulsory monthly rent or mortgage and for those that are renting they only get to pay the rent once a year. Even other expenses like water, electricity and so forth are still cheaper in Nigeria...and some are not even compulsory to have or pay for.

I dunno sha, as someone here even budgetting money for a haircut
You now send money home and they use it to do tithe or do chairman in harvest bazaar or take boys to the club and drink henessy etc...
Basically, things you don't do....What will be the justification.
Maybe too extreme examples

What about send money and they use it to buy iphones or other luxuries, when they can get basic stuff.
I'm just saying generally sha, am not referring to imconfused

UK sef doesn’t want or need you.

They are looking for highly skilled individuals not people like you with a basic skill like “web designing”.

You want an honest advice ? Consider a career in IT security, Information security and cloud computing.

Don't know much about motion graphics. However, combining it with Front-end web development can certainly help. Since you plan on going to Canada, you need to search the job boards there to see if your skillset currently matches what's trending there. IT is a changing field anyway, so a particular technology it may be trending now, but not 2 years from now. You just need to be able to adapt. and learn new skills.

I don't know how girls do it in Nigeria. Sexual harrassment is rife in that country.

She got what she deserved.

She had an insane amount of the drugs in her luggage.

Tramadol we all know is one of the number one commonly abused prescription only drugs in nigeria. Do GPs even prescribe it in UK? undecided

My question is where did she buy the drugs from ? Certainly online !!

How come they weren’t detected by royal mail (if it was posted to her within the country) or by the customs people if it was posted to her from overseas?

Haircut?

Haircut you said??

I swear.
The thing shock me.
