To add to the OP detailed explanation, for those in Abuja, the FIRS tax office you go depends on the location of your business.

The office in Zone 5 only handles government agencies.
I wonder why their website doesn't hold useful information like this.

VAT is a statutory tax that must be paid and is different from your income tax for which a TIN is issued to the business. VAT number is also issued to the business enabling them collect VAT on behalf of government.

Nice write up....
Please I want to know if VAT No. can be used as TIN number. Kindly help to explicitly differentiate them. Thanks and cheers.

Every company has automatically been assigned a TIN number

https://apps.firs.gov.ng/tinverification/

http://new.cac.gov.ng/home/registration-steps/

Your corresponding business name and the assigned TIN and Tax Office will be displayed.

You can also pay your tax on your bank's e-platform

http://www.firs.gov.ng/Media-Centre/Pages/Press-Release-04032015_01.aspx

Taxpayers can now pay their taxpayers online by logging into the internet banking platform of any commercial bank in Nigeria, choosing the FIRS link and following the prompting.

This is the product of the electronic tax-pay solution, an ease of tax payment initiative of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in collaboration with the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) and Systemspecs Limited.

At the launch and public sensitization of the new product over the weekend in Lagos, the Acting Executive Chairman of the FIRS, Alhaji Kabir Mashi explained that the e-Tax Pay Solution is a self-service FIRS channel available on all commercial banks ' Internet banking platforms. He said once a taxpayer logs into any bank' s Internet banking platform, he can click the FIRS link to pay his taxes and or submit necessary documents, the same way he may choose to pay other bills.

Mashi said: "It is that simple. It is that convenient. It is that accessible and it is very secure. Taxpayers do not have to go to any tax office before taxes are paid. Tax payment is just a click away", representative of the Acting Executive Chairman of FIRS, Achilis Amahwe, explained.

"It is this quest for simplification of tax payment process and ease of access to tax services that led FIRS to recently roll out the electronic filing service under the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS). It serves as a means of reducing time and cost of compliance for the taxpayers and reducing interface between the taxpayers and tax authorities. It provides added convenience for taxpayers who will now sit at the comfort of their homes and offices and upload their tax returns on the e-Tax Pay Solution platform", Mashi further explained.

Mashi urged the taxpayers to cultivate the use of the e-Tax Pay Solution or e-filing platforms as those were created for their convenience and ultimately engender a transparent and efficient tax system that optimizes tax revenue collection and voluntary compliance.

"We therefore hope that taxpayers will respond positively to these innovations and utilize them to a large scale. This will not only ease compliance for the taxpayers but also enable FIRS to ensure greater transparency in our operations as taxpayers will have full access to their records, which they upload and also to the payments which they make", Mashi added.

The Coordinating Director, Field Operations Group, who was represented by Director, Medium Tax Department, Peter Olayemi said the e-Tax Pay Solution will boost tax revenue collection.

"These self-service initiatives are being introduced to strengthen the self-assessment regime and to improve voluntary tax Compliance using the online payment options. These initiatives will bring in more tax revenue and also provide convenience for both the taxpayers and the tax authorities", Olayemi said.

Explaining the features of the e-tax pay solution, the Director, Programme Management Office (Tax), Gbolaga Oshiga said the platform is so user friendly and interactive that a first-time user would not find it difficult to complete the process.

The launch and demonstration of the platform attracted stakeholders from various sectors of Nigerian economy including Dangote Plc, Guiness Nigeria, Chevron, banks and telecommunications operators.

The e-Tax Pay Solution is an modernization initiative put together by the FIRS in collaboration with the Nigeria Inter-bank Settlement System (NIBSS) and the System Specs Limited to meet the expectations of taxation stakeholders in the area of service delivery.

Thank you very much.... Much appreciated My confusion has always been because people sometimes use TIN and VAT numbers interchangebly and for one remittance at times! Thanks for the clarification.

My agency assists in registration of business name and incorporated trustees like churches NGO etc,now because of issues of trust and also to allay the fears of potential/new clients who are working with me for the first time, what I do is that I collect half of the payment and proceed to do the registration and everything, then when the certificate is ready you can pay up the balance, this is solely to build trust.for more info pls contact mr biola on 08170273973,my office address is no 4 Yusuf close, agidingbi, ikeja(corporate affairs commission head office is a 5mins walk from my office).thank you all.

How easy is it to pay tax without monthly tax returns. Paying every month is very tedious, would have loved quarterly, bi annual or yearly.

Fees for monthly filing through an accountant is exorbitant like having another employee on the payroll. What can I do please?

We charge as low as 10k per month.

Unfortunately there's little you can do about the monthly filing of returns. Some returns are mandatory for filing on a monthly basis while others are annual. The system doesn't have any provision for quarterly or no annual.

Please speak with us today let us take the burden off your shoulders without breaking your bank.

Hi. Good morning.

Is it possible to use another company's TIN to file tax returns for another company ?

If not, what's the implication of doing so ?

Thanks

It's not advisable to do it. TIN identifies a company and every correspondence is kept in the file of the company. You will indirectly be paying the taxes of the company that owns the TIN.

Why not process your TIN and file in your name? It's less complicated that way and safer too.

Saw my TIN on CAC site using d link provided on this thread, but do I need any other process after this, or can I go straight to the bank to use it for account opening?
Re: How To Apply For A Tax Identification Number (TIN) In Nigeria by aywhy93(m): 9:28am On Aug 09, 2018
When I visited this link - https://apps.firs.gov.ng/tinverification/ I typed in my CAC Registration Number and I saw that my newly registered Business has been given a Tax Identification Number already. Typing in just my CAC Registration Number on the FIRS website brought out the Name of my Company with the closest FIRS office to my business location and some other personal detail.

Does it mean that the process for obtaining TIN for businesses has changed and I dont have to go through any other hassles.? Is there any card or something I have to collect to this effect or I can just copy the TIN as seen on the website and start using.? I have few more questions but somebody please answer and explain explicitly. Thanks

I am a tax practitioner, TIN is free but you have to endeavor to register before 6 months after your incorporation date, else you are fined 10,000 for the first month and 5000 every subsequent month.

It is wiser to use a tax consultant, cus due to the relationship they have with tax offices, such penalties are usually waived. The tax man has the authority to waive the penalty if he so chooses, don't let em tell you otherwise, i have enjoyed such waivers numerous times.

Be careful on claiming you just started business, the Tax man can access your bank and know if you have earned income, they even have the right to demand for your bank statements, through withholding taxes sef exposes people that claim to be nursery companies meanwhile they have earned income

Your tax consultant is like your doctor, tell him the whole unadultrated truth, i have had clients lie to me and it made me look really bad and caused unnecessary delays.

It pays to pay your tax, compliance is cheaper than remedial, i know you are asking what has Nigeria done for you?. But someday you will need Nigeria, either a loan, or a contract etc and then you will have to pay through your nose to get what you need, a stitch in time saves 9 ooooo

How do you mean by endeavour to register before six months after your incorporation date please? Thanks.

This write-up/business intro of yours has all shades of unprofessionalism attached to it, Poor punctuations, zero spacing, I mean it reeks of an amateur, you should work on your writing delivery so people can take you more seriously please. I believe you have content, what's lacking is how to sell that content.

Ok

Goodday, as a newly registered company which has just been issued TIN automatically after CAC REGISTRATION,
1. do I still need to submit any hardcopy documents to FIRS office?
2. What about if the company did not operate for the first 12 months/1 year after being registered? What is/are the implications regarding tax payment/filling?

Thank you in advance for swift response.
