SupremeCourt:

APKWS is no secret because it uses same principle as other types and is not better– Sermon preached by patches.

Okay USA F-35 stealth jet is no secret and not better than other types because it uses same principles of stealth jets like others.

Read BAE website on APKWS, it has 93% hit rate while South Africandos Mokopa missile missed easy target during demo for NAF, NA and foreign military generals. Yes, NAF APKWS has 93% chance of hitting target, while DENEL Mokopa has 93% chance of missing very easy target in broad day light, so Nigeria buys 400 APKWS and 0 Mokopa. If the APKWS hi-tech is no secret, South Africandos would have used same common knowledge to help DENEL Mokopa find target instead of your $30,000 guided missile travelling north to Sokoto when its target dey for Calabar south side.

As usual, you say something ludicrous, get called out and then proceed to desperately make this an RSA v Nigeria thing.

APKWS, while an excellent purchase, is not ultra secret cutting edge technology. Examples of similar systems date back to the 1990s and it has 3 direct contenders currently on the open market. This is a simple fact.

Makopa has nothing to do with this, it's a completely different missile of a completely different catagory. The Makopa clearly has acceptable accuracy credentials, else, Algeria would not have purchased so many systems from us.

Please cease your confrontational nature, stop trying to constantly turn this into a Nigeria v South Africa thing. It's childish, and if you continue.... You will get banned, again.

Let's be realistic. Just because it was developed 4 decades ago and available to over 20 countries doesn't mean it can't be classified as CLASSIFIED. There will always be an area where countries will have strategic and technological advantages over one another. More so, American's Department of Defense clearly stated in its letter to Senate that there are parts of the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) to be sold to Nigeria that are considered "Classified."
Below is a screenshot to buttress my point.

You realise that the term classified has nothing to do with how the weapon actually works? The algorithms. BAE is not giving Nigeria the blueprints of how APKWS works (and never will in a million years) nor are the Americans with Paveway. Classified information relates to functionality of the weapon, something that all arms deals include.

You're getting the crucial/secret information regarding use of the weapon. Flight envelopes, limitations, effect of cloud cover etc etc. Basically the secret information pilots need to know.

Side note: That's why it's relatively easy to reverse engineer a purely mechanical system such as a machine gun, but very very difficult for a missile/guided system. You can have your technicians make something that looks similar to a Paveway, but with zero functionality. It's the algorithms that are top secret, and the customer will never have access to them.

You just wouldn't let this go except you win the argument grin grin grin.
No one said they will reveal the technicalities of the munitions to us. I don't even think they will allow NAF to produce basic spare parts of the aircraft. I meant CLASSIFIED in the sense that they definitely won't be happy to see Nigerians probing the workings of their intellectual property behind their back. Neither will they be happy to see Nigerian government supplying such weapons to third party without their approval. We all saw how US government blocked the sale of Tucano from Brazilian government 2 NG. Asking for blueprints is akin to walking into Coca Cola headquarter and asking for the unique recipe just because we have dozens of Coca cola factories in Nigeria.

Item No. vii
(vii) Sensitivity of Technology:
1. This sale involves the release of
sensitive weapons software technology
information to Nigeria. Software
associated with the following weapons
will be included in the aircraft
operational flight program to support a
future weapons capability.
2. Sensitive and/or classified (up to
SECRET) elements of the proposed A–
29 sale to Nigeria includes the hardware
and associated software with: Advanced
Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS)
laser guided rockets, Guided Bomb Unit
(GBU)–12/58 Paveway II laser guided
tail kits, and Mark (MK)–81/82 general
purpose bombs.
3. The Hydra 70 Rocket System is a
modernized version of the 2.75 inch (70
mm) unguided rocket body with the
MK66 Rocket Motor.
4. The APKWS is a low cost semi￾active laser guidance kit developed by
BAE Systems which is added to current
unguided 70 mm rocket motors and
warheads similar to and including the
Hydra 70 rocket. It is a low collateral
damage weapon that can effectively
strike both soft and lightly armored
targets. APKWS turns a standard
unguided 2.75 inch (70 mm) rocket into
a precision laser-guided rocket,
classification up to SECRET.
5. GBU–12/58 Paveway II (PW–II)
Tailkits: 500-lb (GBU–12) and 250-lb
(GBU–58) are laser-guided ballistic
bombs (LGBs) developed by Raytheon
and Lockheed Martin. The LGB is a
maneuverable, free-fall weapon that
guides to a spot of laser energy reflected
off of the target. The LGB is delivered
like a normal general purpose (GP)
warhead and the semi-active guidance
corrects for many of the normal errors
inherent in any delivery system. Laser
designation for the weapon can be
provided by a variety of laser target
markers or designators. The tailkit
consists of a laser guidance kit, a
computer control group (CCG) and a
warhead specific Air Foil Group (AFG),
that attach to the nose and tail of MK
81 and MK 82 General Purpose (GP)
bomb bodies to create an LGB. This sale
includes the tailkits to transform
Nigeria’s existing 500-lb and 250-lb GP
bomb bodies into GBU–12s and GBU–
58s respectively. Nigeria is also buying
additional GBU–58s, 250-lb (MK–81)
guided bombs. The overall weapon is
CONFIDENTIAL.
6. AN/AAQ–22F Brite Star Electro￾Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) Multi-Sensor
Targeting System developed by FLIR.
The system is a five field-of-view (FOV)
large format thermal imager, three FOV
color daylight camera with laser
designator for terminal guidance of
LGBs and IR-guided rockets. The system
is classified as UNCLASSIFIED.
7. This sale is necessary in
furtherance of U.S. foreign policy and
national security objectives outlined in
the Policy Justification. Moreover, the
benefits to be derived from this sale, as
outlined in the Policy Justification,
outweigh the potential damage that
could result if the sensitive technology
were revealed to unauthorized persons.
8. All defense articles and services
listed in this transmittal are authorized
for release and export to the
Government of Nigeria.

Yep. Exactly the same as Afghanistan. Hell, the GPO document everyone is quoting is word for word what it said about the sale to Afghanistan, the Air Tractor sale to Kenya, etc, etc.

Me, I'm pleased NAF is getting the Tucano. I'm not sure about the price though.

When technical facts are used to debunk your illogical arguments, you call it confrontation. I proved all guided weapons are not equal, some far better than others because $30,000 guided missiles miss target completely. 93% hit rate for APKWS proved you wrong so I must get banned for proving you wrong because being correct is against Nairaland rules abi?

Last time I got banned you too got banned as quickly. Learn your lesson,
Stop starting fights you cannot finish.
