Emeka held tightly to the rope yet again, and with combined effort, we were able to pull him out of the well. Titilope's muscular boyfriend did the lifting, he carried Emeka on his shoulder and laid him on a piece of wool cloth at the front of the hostel. "baby... Please bring the blanket in your room" he said. Titilope did as instructed. "e be like say Emeka don drink plenty water o, See him belle.. E don swell anyhow" Emafidon said. Emeka said nothing, he kept quiet looking at all of us as if we were strangers. The dude was tired or maybe probably filled with regrets. Regrets only himself could feel or tell. "Emeka doh" I said. Tears were beginning to form like clouds in his eyes, it dropped down his cheeks and all of a sudden, he began to cough lots of water. "easy... Easy... " Akpan said, resting both hands on his chest to help facilitate his respiratory system to function properly. Titilope brought the blanket as instructed a few minutes later and covered Emekas cold body. She used the side of her wrapper which she tied round her waste to clean the tears off his eyes. "you will be okay... Stop crying" she said. "but why would you do such a thing... You are still very young. What would make you do such" "let him rest... The guy done tire, he needs rest" I said. "who get him phone... Let them call him parents" akpan said. "no..no, please no.. Don't call my parents" Emeka struggled to talk. "you dey craze... Abeg call him parents.. Assuming you die, na jail all of us go enter." Emafidon said. "God forbid" Akpan rebuked "I already did, I called your sister. She is on her way" Titilope said. Emeka was eventually taken to an hospital in Benin city, curtsey of his beautiful younger sister, which i admired the first day I saw her and sadly that was the last time I saw Emeka and his beautiful sister. A few days later his properties were carried out of the room by members of his family living his room empty. |

Dedicated to Xolocious, happy belated birthday bro. I sat at the back sit of the lecture room, ear phone plugged in both ears while I nodded my head rhythmically to the sounds emanating from my Samsung galaxy. We were actually supposed to have a lecture on 'Military rule in Nigeria' but the lecturer didn't come at the supposed time, so we had to wait patiently for him... He loved taking attendance way too seriously, to him it was the only way he could punish the bad eggs amongst us. In his words... "I will pick out the good eggs from the bad eggs... The judgement day is coming, it's so close, who ever is not in my book of life shouldn't bother coming to the exam hall". Well as for me, I made a promise to myself never to miss his classes in order to avoid stories that touches the inner most part of my soul. I felt a tap on my shoulder, I looked back and saw my course mate, Thompson with a smile on his face, his eyes were like that of those Chinese and Japanese people, if you know what I mean. "why you dey smile?"I asked, while removing the head phones from both ears. "so you no no say you don miss prof class abi... Yeye boy" "forreal... Nah lie, no lie for me" "see this one... You never see anything. The man no teach o, he just do test, collect attendance comot. Just like that" "Ahh!.. Na true... Just like that?" "nooo.. Na lie. Your own don finish" I never knew I could be this serious like this my entire life, I could feature in nollywod movies and excel. Thompson stood still for awhile, thinking about his life and the way forward. "Temy you serious?" He asked again "na joke o" I said, "see how I take fool you anyhow" He looked at me for 5 seconds, shook his head and brought out a huge amount of money. "Thompson... Were you for see this money?" "no ask me, I be wan give you like 5k inside... But you don f*@k up" "na joke na...someone cannot play with you.. Is that how you use to do?" I didn't know when I started singing Kokers song. "bet naija pay me 300k... You know how e dey go now... Their fada. Who say I no go make am. Na thunder go fire all of them" he bragged. "so Naija bet dey pay like this?" "yes na... 2 plus 2 no be 4?... But me wan invest o. Money gast join money" "no be lie... Investment goes well. But that 5k, no forget vasar me o" "na 3k I fit give you... Because na me go still flex you. So manage this one" he said He counted 3k and stretched it towards me. I thanked him. "take this 500 naira join am" "see me see free money" i thought "so wetin you wan invest in... Many things dey o..." I said while putting the money in my pocket. "Oboy...big things. Na Benz me wan buy, then i go con buy house, big one o., then I go travel go new Zealand, from there I go enter UK...so, I wan invest for MMM" "MMM... Wetin be that?" I asked, it was actually my first time of hearing it. "MMM" I said again 1 Like |

Thompson was the biggest boy at that moment, with about 300k in his pocket, he could afford anything he wished for as a student, Naija bet was the deal, the real deal. "Temy after this class, we go enter supreme we go scatter the place. Na me dey talk... Their father.. are they mad?... No!... They must be crazy.I go call Mayson, we go scatter the place, Temy believe me... You gast believe me" Thompson said with a wide grinned on his face. "Of course I believed Thompson but how much go con remain for Thompson to con do the latest Ponzi scheme called MMM, like he had earlier described" I wondered "Me I dey with you o, me too wan high" I said. Immediately I said "me too wan high', I immediately went into a flash back, recalling my past experiences and how I was starring at Bob Marleys picture and crying like a baby. I brought myself back to life when I saw Thompson's mouth moving. "..... E wan be, No wahala make we see how e go be" he said. I couldn't figure out what he said before. *****†******†******†******†*****†******†*****†*****† Around past 6pm, I got a call from Thompson telling me to meet him at the VIP section of the hotel. I did as instructed, I wore my Versace top, a pair of rugged jeans and a swayed shoe and I got ready for the epic alcohol journey. On getting to the hotel bar, I saw only Thompson relaxing on a soft comfortable chair, with a bottle of origin and a glass cup on his table. "Temy... How are you doing...you are welcome... Have your sit" he said "This wan wey you dey follow me dey align I English Grammer so, hope everywhere good o" I inquired. "Temy, everywhere good. Na me Thompson dey talk... I wan promise you, so I can't fail you. I called Mayson but he said he could not make it, he said he was going to stay in his babe place that evening" Thompson explained while repeatedly sipping his glass of liquor. "Oh okay" I said "Oh.... Temy wetin you go drink... Meat dey... Order. Bar man! Bar man!... Sharp sharp now, Na this kind thing I no dey like, then go just dey slow anyhow' Thompson shouted Our table was eventually served with two plates of cat fish pepper soup and several bottles of beer, for just the two of us. I remembered my past experience with alcohol so I decided to drink responsibly, I drank only a bottle and a half of Guinness extra Stout, but Thompson kept ordering and ordering for origin beer and alomo bitters, he kept drinking the liquor like it was bobo juice or 5 Alive, little did he know that there was going to be repercussions for his actions. Well, after we had cancelled all the beers and alomo bitters on the table, we decided to call it a day. "Thompson make we dey go house, time don go it's 10:30pm" I said "Oh! No be lie o. Time don go true true. Make we dey go" he complied. "Temy you fit carry me, e be like say my legs don paralyze" he said. Na there I realize say I don enter one chance. 2 Likes |
