Good morning fams, my school resumes on January 10, but I intend leaving Nigeria on 11th for a personal reason, I want to know if I won't have issues at the POE

Why do you want to take chances? You will have issues except you get a letter from your school

Potentially can be a problem.... what the exact start date on your i20 . You need to be in the US on or before that date.

Rules are rules so make sure your ticket is aligned to that

TWoods explain more on this, on the other thread, you said MIS, isn't worth it, can you please drop better courses..
i already made up my mind on MIS, after much research on Quora, checked salaries, job opportunities etc
I graduated already studied Accounting, i want to follow IT field or Path...

Sometimes there are no rules... if you are good / passionate about an area and go to a fairly ok school you can find your feet

I know at least 3 people who did MIS, got in IT implementation and also got h1b jobs

Yes. You will need to obtain work authorization, through the OPT or H1B visa. Your school will guide you through the OPT process. Your employer will file for an H1B on your behalf.

Thanks big time ... But can any of this process grant a permanent residence

Oh sorry for that. I will graduate this year with Masters in Biochemistry. I hope to go for Molecular biology in a good school in US, preferably Havard or MIT.

So what's the possibility of getting graduate assistance work in these schools?

Yep. You should be ok. They can use a copy of your passport to register you. Luckily, your I94 is now electronic so that can be downloaded online using your passport number (which really is the key). Contact the police, they will issue you a police report. Keep this as you will need it when you apply for another F1 visa. The US will likely cancel your previous visa but you will remain in status as long as you remain a fulltime student. Once you are now settled, you can contact the Nigerian consulate nearest to you and obtain a new passport. You will need to reapply for an F1 visa if you leave the US, but this is not compulsory... if you stay in the US, you'll be fine.

Thank you bro

OPT cant get you a permanent residency since it is under the F1 visa which is a non immigrant visa, however , the H1B is regarded as a dual intent visa, meaning that should you be granted the H1B, your employer can also file for permanent residency for you and you could be granted.pls note that the entire process is rigorous and costs thousands of US dollars, so you have to be very talented for your employer to want to invest all that money on you.

That course usually comes with funding provided you met the standard admission requirement. You dont have apply for assistantship separately but you can always write any prof in your research area to increase your chances of getting admitted and to secure assistantship opportunity.

Ok. POC... I don't leave shit to prayers because I am an atheist. I do not pray or believe in any god.

Secondly it's 12k dollars after tax. And like i stated earlier there is a closing balance of almost 50k dollars in the account. I'm not an idiot. I know how these things work. He can afford to cover my tuition and stil have more than enough. I lived in the U.K for more than 6 years and this is not my first or second visit to the United States.

Thirdly, I already stated earlier that this was all rushed. As at September 30th, I was supposed to be on my way back to the UK. But things didn t work out. I had to rush this admission process so I don't lose a year again. Application closed first week of November. So i had exactly one month only to write GRE, send transcripts, apply and do all i had to do.

Lastly, you can give your opinion without sounding like an ass. Honestly you have the option of ignoring if you have no manners.

Have a great day man

TWoods:

You won't. At least not until next fall... Nigeria is the only place I know where serious issues are left to "hope" and "prayer". In other countries, people set plans/work goals and work towards them.

It's Buckingham palace. She should opt for a bread and breakfast. Hotels in London are quite expensive. Bread and breakfast somewhere in North London then get an oyster card which can take her anywhere. Send me a message and I might be able to get her a good deal in London.

Hi guys. So I booked my visa interview last week and fortunately got first week Jan. Before This, I was only seeing January 30th. I kept refreshing at midnight and early in the morning especially. Took me many days of sleepless night, but it was worth it. If you need a new visa date, I suggest you do the same.

Plz how did u do it? I hv tried booking an earlier date buh don't know how to go about it...thanks

Thanks. I went there today and it was there. Gracias

I found out that for one program, MS in Medical Laboratory Science doesn't require any special entrance exams and international students can apply with their foreign BS. No GRE mentioned shocked

na wa for you ooo .. People who are there keep correcting you but you are insisting on your own ideas

yes maybe you cannot work directly with a Nigerian degree but that debatable because i have a friend who did , although her is a degree from philippines . I know someone else who is working in the lab after clinical research masters as previously mentioned

Secondly it is one step at a time. To work and to school are two separate things ... School comes before work for most international people.

There is nothing stopping a Nigerian graduate from doing a masters within the Lab Field / sector . Then after graduation , the fact that the master degree is from a recognized program within the US qualifies the person to do AMT certifcation or what ever certification is needed . Also some schools have good Internship programs , a student can start working through internship route and completes the certification while working .

What else do you want?
Someone took his time to search for a school for you, no words to show appreciation.
You're still talking about this BSc sha.
If you're really interested in clinical lab science which I am beginning to doubt, do it in Nigeria nah....
You'll easily get into 200level with your BSc.

Gurus should please advise what airline is okay to go with. I checked air maroc and i saw a schedule of almost 11hours stop over in Morocco. Is this how it is. Although i saw 4hours stop but the 11hrs stop is cheaper. Please advise and suggest other options. Thanks

Hello @ all,
Got to the Newark international airport around 10pm and took their AirTran to rail station where I took a train from the train station to Newark penn Station..
Upon getting down at the penn station, I realized that I didn't pick up my hand luggage which cosists of all my documents including International passport..

Please, what's the best option for me?

I have tried contacting the NJ train station but they couldn't find it..

Thanks

hummm your village people should free you ooo .........pele . This would have been one stressful journey

Thankfully a lot of things are electronic so might be easier than previous years to retrive and get temp replacement . The school would be the best to guide you on how to sort out school matter and also opening bank account or other functions that needs a passport . You can only take it one step at a time and with time it resolves itself . Work closely with the school ... If you need a Visa stamp , then check canada or mexico after you get another Nigerian passport . That ticket might be cheaper than going to Nigeria . but that if you really need it

at the same time, contact all the places you went through Airtran , airport . Call them and ask for their lost and found section. Also stay in touch for up to 2 - 4 months and keep calling incase someone returns it ....... I once left a camera on the train , which was painful to me because it had pictures of my family visit . i left my contact with the train station and kept following up . 2 months later when i have forgotten about it , i got a call that the camera has been found. That only happened because i stayed in touch and left my details . I was so grateful because those pictures were not replaceable
